Start your evening at the bar here, but go get dinner somewhere else. The view is amazing, but not worth the price of the food Pros: view Cons: price

Above it all 5/31/2002

My boyfriend Jay and I just visited Chicago and we had planned from day one to go to the John Hancock for lunch on the 95th floor. When the waiter took us through the hallway and to our table I couldn't believe how high up we were. We were seated right next to the window with a magnificent view of Lake Michigan as well as the city. We could see it all and it was amazing. It really makes you see what a beautiful city Chicago is. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed and also very romantic. The food is not anything great even for the buffet price, but it wasn't terrible. The view and the experience is what makes the Signiture Room worth it. Pros: Breathtaking views Cons: Overpriced food more

Crowded bar with a great view 5/27/2002

On a clear day, this is one of the best seats in the city ... if you can score one of the coveted window seats. The Lounge fills up quickly on the weekends, mostly with very casually dressed visitors taking a break after a day of shopping on North Michigan Avenue. The view of the city is breathtaking ... and so are the drink prices. It could get very pricey if you linger here too long. Pros: Fantastic view Cons: Crowded more

Lunch with a view 5/20/2002

It sounds like my experience was similar to other users' -- a meal at the Signature Room was a great way to enjoy to the view afforded by the Hancock Building. We went for lunch and scored a window seat on the dining room's east side. The buffet was good, though the minimal service we required was kind of lacking. Our waitress took our order, but only made it back to our table once to pick up some plates. All drink refills and even the check delivery was handled by a busboy. He was gracious, but it was a bit off-putting because it seemed our waitress couldn't be bothered. I think lunch and brunch accept casual diners, though dinner may be a bit more upscale. I have also heard that the Signature Lounge (96th floor) offers as good a view as the restaurant and the 94th floor observatory. more

Skip the Observatory 5/20/2002

This is one of the best views in Chicago -- of course. As good as the view at the Observatory, without the wait and a nice meal to boot. We showed up in casual clothes and were made to feel right out home. The food was no more pricey than any other place downtown. Brunch seems to be the way to go. Pros: view Cons: slow service more
