Best

best thai food I have ever had the pud thai four stars gets 5 stars

Worst

I read the reviews as to how great this place was so I went cuz I am a HUGE fan of Thai food. The food is good but it would be way way way better without all the sugar the dump in...

Not cheap and not good 8/3/2006

I'm not sure what people have in mind when you are served by rude waitresses who have issues with working. The food is okay, they don't even have beef there. I was so disappointed and feel mislead by Citysearch as for saying they were cheap. They were not. The service is horrible. The place made my cloth stink. I couldn't even go out afterwards, had to go home and shower and change first. This is the editorial choice for top Thai in Seattle? Very sad, I hope other's from out of town don't think this is the best we have in Seattle. They don't even have beef there. Rice with Phad Thai? Come on, we have better. Cons: Service, food choice, seating more

The Best of Seattle 7/16/2006

Yum Yum YUM! Pros: authentic cuisine and atmosphere, affordable Cons: I wish there were more counterspace so we all could watch the FIRE! more

Horrible Service 6/16/2006

These girls that work here are extremely snotty and rude. They are always out of something. I can't believe some of the reviews on here. I wouldn't wait 30 seconds for a table here. There are not any lunch combos - over priced - over cooked. The food is good but not great. They have complained to the landlords about the BEST thai spot on the AVE - Asian Spice because they KNOW they had competition and now Asian Spice has had to go to vegetarian and change their whole menu. Asian Spice has the great food. I do not recommend this place at all - their busines and reviews have DEFINITELY gone to their head, they are not all that great at all. more

Watch how he cooks the yummy dishes! 5/26/2006

This place is awesome, but it's kinda hard to find. You can see the cook cook, and it's amazing to see he put all kinds of spices. The prices are so reasonable (cash only). I don't care for Thai food personally, but this place is always my first choice of restaurant in U district. Pros: Good food, Inexpensive more

Awesome Thai food!! 2/26/2006

I've been going to this restaurant for years and it continues to be my favorite, even after trying many other Thai restaurants in the Seattle area. I haven't been to all of the ""top"" Thai restaurants but this one is pretty darn good. The food isn't always consistent and that is a downside, but I know who the good cooks are, and when I know the nights they cook, I make sure I'm there! If you frequent the place enough, you will figure it out! The Phad Thai is always awesome!!! It's best to come here when it isn't so crowded (ie, during dinner time), unless you don't mind the wait. Pros: great food, cheap Cons: the wait, very small restaurant more

THAI IN SEATTLE 11/8/2005

This is the best Thai in Seattle, that waits forever, 30 mintues for to-go but I still go here at least once a week, service is a little lacking, but they'll fill your water non-stop. Food is unbelievable, everything is cheap, and anything can be substitutued with tofu. more

Not recommended at all!!! 11/5/2005

We ordered 2 phad thai tonight. In 40mins, FINALLY got our dishes(Overlycooked-black&bitter) 2 small tofu pices tossed for tofu phad thai? dissapointed but the most dramatic part starts. After finished, the waitress got bill of $13.11 I paid $14.25 , leAVING a $ under the cup. she took the money and TOSSED me ""A dime"" I was gonna ASK her give exact change($0.14)but decided not to argue. As we tried to leave, waitressES stopped me telling ""You didn't leave our tip"" I was so embarassed because I was sure I left a $. So I told them ""Well,I left a $ and SAW you're taking it"". she looked at me weirdly SAYING she didn't take it and started to chat in thai. We got out asap feeling anger. The food wasn't enjoyable, so was the service of the rude girls. I even regret of giving them a dollar for tip. more

The Best in town 10/29/2005

I love Thai Tom, my favorite Thai food aside from being in Thailand. I recommend if you plan on going there go only slightly hungry because there is always a line out the door and it takes time to get seated and served since it is a fairly small spot, but I tell well worth wait. If you're too hungry you might want to get something much quicker to satisfy your hunger. The people who work there are so friendly and they always seem to remember you when you come back the next time. Pros: Amazing food, Service Cons: Long Wait more

The Longest Wait Ever 10/7/2005

If I had to name the best Pad Thai I've ever had in my life I would name Thai Tom's. This place has the most amazing pad thai everytime. But if I had to name the worst service I've ever had, I would also have to name Thai Tom's. I usually suck it up and take the abuse but I think this last time will be my last unless I have someone else order to go. I sat down and ordered immediately. I sat and waited an entire hour for my food with no word from the waitress who was very snippety and seemed somehow surprised when three other people said the wait was too long. This place needs to learn some service and the meaning of supply and demand. Demand is way high for this place so GET A BIGGER RESTAURANT! Pros: the best thai food, ever Cons: cramped, horrible service, long waits more

Food is amazing! But it has it's downside... 9/20/2005

Pro: Thai Tom's food is amazing (addicting!), always worth the wait and dirt cheap. My favorite restaurant! Con: They are so busy they don't care about customers. I go often and tip well (EvenForTakeOut), they even know my name, so I get pissed when treated like crap. Once I showed up (late) to pick up takeout and they said my food wouldn't be ready for 20 minutes. I said I would come back in 20 minutes. They demanded I pay them immediately, I refused and promised I'd return. I returned 20 minutes later and they hadn't even started making my food, because they were pissed I didn't prepay! Once you haven't had it for a month you crave it so much you are willing to retake the abuse. Don't get me wrong, sometimes the service is fantastic, you just can't count on it! Pros: AMAZING FOOD!!!!!!!!!, Dirt Cheap, FLAMES EVERYWHERE!!!! Cons: Inconsistent portions, They can be jerks, Long waits more

Hole-in-the wall amazing Thai food! 8/20/2005

Service was average, the server being the only one in sight to anser phone calls and take care of all restaurant patrons. Don't expect great shakes for service or ambience--it's a tiny dark place. However, there was no wait for lunch, and it was simply the best thai food I've ever had. Bring cash though, and if you're sensitive to spice, go with one star--two stars is pretty toasty! more

wait and then some more 8/13/2005

two waits for food: 1, 30 min. on the sidewalk where they take your order, the second, 30 min. inside while you wait for food. Dishes I have had are too sweet for Thai food. Friendly service. Good music inside while waiting (surprise). Crowded from the minute it opens. The single chief/cook is a mad person over the flaming burners. His stamina is stupendous. phone ahead for take out. Pros: two servers, fresh ingedients Cons: tiny space more

I miss eating at this place!!!! 5/11/2005

I used to live in University District (went to UW) and have since relocated to New York City two years ago. Believe it or not, this is still my favorite Thai place ever! I went there when I was home in February and it was as wonderful as ever...not to mention super-cheap! So, the place is a bit cramped and the waiters can be a little snippy and rushed. Who cares when the food is this amazing?! Pros: Phad Thai, Peanut sauce, Cheap! Cons: Service, Too small more

Small location but great food 1/1/2005

This is a must try for anyone living near the Ave. Although for dinner you'll probably have to wait, you should definitly try it sooner or later. The food is always hot and tastes great. The portions are decent, but good for the price. I recommend this place to everyone. Pros: Inexpensive, Hot food, Very personal tables Cons: , Sometimes a long wait more

Got to try if you have the time!! 6/22/2004

If you don't have the time don't go!!!! It take some time but worth the wait. Great food, great people!!! Will even teach you a few Thai words given time. They will treat you like family given the time. James C. Ryman, (Jimmy) Pros: Great Food, Great People, Treat you like Family Cons: , Extremely Small, Worth it all!!!!! more

sub-adequate service, slow service 3/13/2004

You get a great value, and the place definitely has character...due to limited seating, the places is usually packed and takes a long time to get seated. It sometimes takes even longer to get served. The server sometimes has an attitude about errors on the part of the restaurant. Good food, tastes good, but certainly a order, eat and get out kind of place. Pros: inexpensive, good food Cons: , limited seating, long lines more

Overrated. 3/7/2004

This has got to be the most overrated place in the U District. You wait for a long time outside and get average food from rude employees. Thai-ger room is much better. Better portions and better food for the same price. more

rude and awful 2/16/2004

thai tom's reputation has gone to their heads, so much so that they assume we're all regulars, as was the case when i went to get takeout. not only did they charge extra for a box and a plastic fork, but 1/3 of the meal wasn't included because ""that's how takeout is. NO SALAD!"" i called back to say that there was tofu missing and they insisted that it wasn't supposed to be there (it was on the menu). i wanted them to know that not all of us are regulars and we should be informed before portions of the meals we paid for are going to be missing. his reply? ""i DON'T CARE, BYE"" i could attribute it to their busy schedule, but no one deserves to be yelled at like that. also, there were exactly 4 pieces of chicken in my friend's dish. never again. more

Excellent Thai 9/24/2003

Thai Tom has excellent Thai food. It's a small restaraunt tha t focuses on the food. If you want great Thai period go there. The restaraunt itself is always busy. more

Good, but overrated 8/6/2003

I've been there plenty of times, but usually out of convenience. I honestly think Thai Tom is one of the most overrated Thai restaurants in town -- their menu is a bit lacking for my tastes, and every meal I have had there has been unremarkable. They are never bad, but I have never once used the word ""great"" to describe my experiences there. On the positive side, I do like the fact that they actually make their food spicy when I request it, unlike many other establishments. These days, I find myself drifting more towards Araya when I want Thai food on the Ave (their lunch buffet is a great deal); otherwise, I go to Kwanjai Thai in Fremont (the best Thai food I've had north of Lake Union -- I've never had a bad experience there). more

Extremely small and dark, you might not notice that the space is pretty, with gold walls, painted bamboo lampshades and Thai art. A few tables line one wall and the open kitchen...
