best thai food I have ever had the pud thai four stars gets 5 stars

Worst

I read the reviews as to how great this place was so I went cuz I am a HUGE fan of Thai food. The food is good but it would be way way way better without all the sugar the dump in...

GREAT THAI! 6/3/2008

I had heard about this place (as being the best and cheapest Thai in the U-District) and decided to check it out last night with a friend. We went around 630pm and were seated immediately at the bar. The chef was friendly and asked us exactly how we wanted our food prepared, making it perfectly spicy. Although the place was packed, our food was ready within 10-15 minutes and brought steaming to the table. The staff was very nice and helped us with the menu, since it was our first time being there. The food was absolutely delicous, with fresh veggies and meat. And after all of that, my bill was around $8. I will definitely be going back there--don't listen to the bad reviews! This place is worth any wait. Pros: friendly atmosphere, great food, cheap eats Cons: small place, but worth the wait more

Live a little! 5/20/2008

After reading all of the terrible comments on city search I almost didn't go to Thai Tom. I'm so happy that I did! It is a super small place but it has so much charm. It had amazing food and was such a fun atmosphere. We had both the red and the yellow curry and they were both awesome. The music was good and the server was friendly. They were busy so she wasn't the most talkative server I have had, but it was great. I would recommend this place to any friends and I will be going back! more

Worst ""Thai"" food ever 5/7/2008

was horrid like really, really bad chinese food even smelled like that. Nasty oil taste on everything. Worst Thai in Seattle! This was nasty, I don't see how it could get worse. Usually bad Thai food is just not great, but edible, this was horrid. Nasty re-used oil for months maybe? AVOID this hole! Cons: nasty old oily food. no Thai flavor at all. more

HORRIBLE customer service, WORST dining experience in my life 5/4/2008

I've been to Thai Tom 5-6 times in the past, and always liked their food. But I am not going there ever again due to the service I received tonight. This is what happened: more

This restaurant is more overrated than Xmen 3 4/15/2008

I have only eaten at this restaurant once or twice. When I first came to seattle I asked some of the locals what the best place for Thai food was. Almost every person said it was Thai Tom. Wanting to see what the fuss was about, I got a friend and came for dinner. The wait is always horrible (I know because I see the line just driving by). They really need a new location with more seating. The portions are tiny. The noodles are always burnt. The chairs have NO BACK. It is so uncomfortable to be crammed in to this dive and sit on what feels like an overturned bucket. There are so many thai places better than this one for around the same price where you don't feel like a sardine. If you are looking for a place on the ave I recomment Thai 65. Pros: cheap, good location Cons: almost everything else: uncomfortable, not very good food, long wait more

alright thai, strong flavors, awful awful service and dirty 3/20/2008

The food was alright, but that mostly came from the strong spices and sauces they used, which is too much after a while. Pros: hot food, good location Cons: awful service, dirty, mean spirited staff more

Bad food, bad service, unclean = bad experience 3/13/2008

I have been going to this restaurant since it was with the original owner. more

Amazing waiter in my life ""mr Skunk"" 2/4/2008

This is unbelievable, i actually never bother to write a review about restaurant but this time its a must! ok, i went there with a friend around 6pm to have a dinner together. as we entered the restaurant, the ""guy"" (i don't consider him a waiter) took us to the front table cross to the door. as i looked around, i saw 2 empty sits at the bar which i thought it would be fine for the two of us to sit there. as i sit at the bar, this unbelievable rude waiter ""the guy"" stopped me for being sitting at the bar. he says with his bad mood face and rude attitude that we can't sit at the bar. Okay... and i ask him why i can't sit on the bar? and for some reason he started to shout at us. he says ""IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SIT HERE, JUST GO!!!"" oookaayy... and i politely ask him why?? I'm a customer, why do you have to be soo angry? and he risen up his voice again. he says "" I HAVE TO WORK!! I HAVE PEOPLE LINE UP! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SIT, GOO!!!"" he showed me his book list where there are 4 names on it, but as i looked around, there are no other customer line up in front and at the back of us, which mean it's just a lie. I can't stand his rude attitude, without any further talk, we leave that skunk. enough its enough, ill never go there again, well actually their foods are not so good at all, people goes there because it cheap! there are lots of better Thai food around town with a way better services and great Thai food. ow, one thing to remind you all before you go in there, this restaurant is soo small, the smokes from the kitchen will makes your hair and shirt smells. its hard to find a parking too! ps: hey owner, you better fire that skunk up! there are lots of good qualified waiters out there! more

Terrible service, mediocre food, pest problem 1/16/2008

The food here is WAY overrated. It tasted exactly the same as all the other Thai restaurants in the U-district - good, but nothing special. To note, this place doesn't take special orders. I asked her to hold the eggs but ""We cannot do that."" Why, she didn't say. Pros: Affordable Cons: Bad service more

Crawling on the Walls 1/9/2008

This used to be one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the Seattle area until we encountered r oaches on the walls. We were seated at the farthest table away from the front door, ordered our dinner and proceeded to chow down. Not so long later the first r oach started to rub elbows with us on the wall so I smashed him with my paper napkin. Later on, another r oach appeared so at this which point we notified the waiter/server but it didn't even phase him. Then the third r oach appeared and...............three strikes your are out! We yelled out to the server, there are r oaches in this place. We requested a comp to off-set this unpleasant situation and all Thai Tom offered us was a Thai iced tea. Why would I want a freaking Thai iced tea when it is raining outside? Mr. Server refused to offer a discount on our food stating it would come out of his paycheck. Well guess what Mr. Server, did they reduce your paycheck for the chicken dish you mistakenly brought over to table. I think not. I reviewed the Seattle and King County Env. Dept. restaurant records on-line and I realized this restaurant has continually violated the County health guidelines. Maybe it will take the County shut down of Thai Tom doors before your violations have been corrected. I wonder if the real reason the food at Thai Tom has been so yummy is because tiny r oach bodies have been ground up within its food. What are you really eating? Thai Tom, get your act together and clean up those r oaches. more

Terrible customer service 12/28/2007

I have been going to Thai Tom's restaurant for many years. The food is cheap and pretty good. However, the service isn't consistent. It really depends on who is serving you. Sometimes they are friendly. But most of the time they are trying to rush you out and they can be blatantly rude. So if you go in expecting poor service, you'll be pleasantly surprised when they are actually nice. Pros: cheap thai food Cons: poor customer service more

THOUROUGHLY DISSAPPOINTED 11/18/2007

I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO VISITING THAI TOM HAVING READ GREAT REVIEWS OF IT, WHAT A DISSAPPOINTMENT. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THERE WERE THAT MANY PEOPLE WAITTING OUTSIDE TO GET IN TO EAT. SO I THOUGHT IT MUST BE REALLY GOOD. I ORDERED GREEN CURRY W/TOFU AND VEGGIES. THE TOFU WAS DEEP FRIED SO MUCH YOU COULDNT EVEN RECOGNIZE WHAT IT WAS. IT WAS LIKE EATING RUBBER. THERE WAS NO COCONUT MILK AT ALL AND THE VEGGIES WERENT WORTH MENTIONING. THE SAUCE WAS A HEAVY PEANUT TYPE OF A MIXTURE. AND A SMALL SCOOP OF RICE. I LEFT 3/4 OF MY FOOD ON THE PLATE. I LEFT THERE HUNGRY. I'VE EATEN AT MANY THAI RESTAURANTS AND THIS WAS WAS THE WORST SO FAR. AS FOR THE SERVICE IT WAS OK. WAIT STAFF MADE YOU FEEL AS IF YOU WERE BOTHERING THEM WHEN REQUESTING MORE WATER. Pros: I CANNOT THINK OF ANY Cons: THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE more

Great Thai Food! 8/26/2007

Having went to UW, I have been to Thai Toms many times. Every time I order their Phad Thai. I also order a side of peanut sauce. Both are amazing! I usually get take out since their seating is extremely limited and it can take some time to get a seat and when you do, you are often sitting very close to a stranger. The food is great, but I would reccommend calling in your order for take out. Pros: Amazing Thai Food Cons: Very little seating more

Awesome thai food! Best Pad Thai I've ever had!! 8/14/2007

Thai Tom is my favorite spot for lunch in the U-dist. Sure, it's tiny and you might have to wait, but if that's going to be a problem you can always call ahead for takeout. I never have to wait more than 10 minutes to get in at lunchtime, and after you sit down the service is very quick. I've had several things on their menu and heartily enjoyed them all. George, the main chef, is fantastic. He is cooking everything on his own, juggling 3 or more hot pans at once, serving up hot, delicious thai food to the throngs of students who flock to the doors of Thai Tom. Pros: great music, food is fantastic Cons: you might have to wait- but it's worth it more
