Worst

I read the reviews as to how great this place was so I went cuz I am a HUGE fan of Thai food. The food is good but it would be way way way better without all the sugar the dump in...

Best Tom Kah Kai 7/5/2003

Tom Kah Kai is a spicy chicken soup with coconut milk. Thai Tom makes one of the best that I have ever had! Eating there is like eating on the moon... no atmosphere! Pros: Good Food Cons: Small Restaurant more

Budget Eater's Paradise 6/17/2003

Top notch Thai food in a unique and intriguing small space on the ave in the U district... super cheap prices, large portions for an average person. Highly recommended. Pros: super duper cheap, high quality food, large portions more

I'm eating leftovers right now! 5/14/2003

Just went to Thai Tom for the first time. Impressive! It was busy, but not packed for lunch. The ambiance is underrated! The gold/bronze walls are very cool, and the subtle, tasteful artwork add to the overall happenin' feel. It was very cool to watch our food cooked for us! My only complaint would be that the waiter was in so much of a hurry (despite the fact that it's a low-maintenance service type of place with very few tables) that each time he approached and asked us a question, he would be off to another table before we'd even completed our answers! Communication was difficult. I would rather see wait staff that's efficient AND friendly rather than staff that sacrifices the quality of guest interactions to rush the food out (we weren't in a rush). Yet, the food and ambiance outweighed that con. Pros: Great Food, Hip Atmosphere, Open-Air Kitchen Cons: Rushed Service, Unfriendly Waiter more

thai tom top dog 12/24/2002

always frsh made. always flavorful, it is worth the wait. thai toms is simply the best budget thai food, and probably some of the best budget food in all of seattle more

Restaurant Review 12/13/2002

It is definatly more worthwhile to attend Thai Tom on the weekend, when the legendom ""Tom"" cooks. He whizes around the kichen with insane talent, and is a pleasure to watch in the open kitchen. The food is not only inexpensive but also delicious. Nowhere else will you find such amazing Phad Thai or Swimming Rana. Pros: inexpensive, great food, watch Tom cook more

Best Thai Food In The U District 11/21/2002

By far the best thai food around UW. I've tried many others in the area, but this is the one I always come back to for value and quality. Other thai restaurants may have equally good food, but the prices are never better than Thai Tom. Service has been improving a lot, remember folks, these people are working like mad. Perfect if you like hole-in-the-wall places, great food, and really really good values. Best restaurant in the U-District. It's very tiny and the line is out the door every night, but I like that and hope they never expand. Perfect the way it is. Pros: cheap, good Cons: crowded more

Best Restaurant on the Ave 11/10/2002

This restaurant made a thai food lover out of me!! Its pretty small and always crowded, but the food is definetly worth the wait. You can also watch the chefs cook as you wait. Its a great meal after a UW Football game or long study session. Its prices are also reasonable. Only two warnings: beware of the blonde host, he can get cranky, and Thai Tom takes cash only. Pros: inexpensive, good food, variety Cons: no parking, crowded, cash only more

Great Thai!! 10/1/2002

Generous portions, great food...my only complaint is that due to the small restaraunt, you often have to wait a while to be seated, but it's still worth the wait. Pros: Great food, Good prices Cons: Very busy more

9.5 out of 10 I luv Thai Tom 8/17/2002

Thai Tom is perhaps one of the last reasons to vist the Ave in the U-district. They serve up entertainment (just watch as they make your food in front of you), a great place to socialize, and the best darn Thai food in the city, all at a great value. The servings are substantial. You get salad with your meal, and there's more than enough for 2 people in one serving. I suggest the fried tofu phad thai and their thai-iced tea. Dispite the line and it being a bit croweded, it really is worth the wait and a little less elbow room. Go there!! Pros: Great food, Vegetarian Options, Very helpful staff Cons: A bit crowded more

tasty treats 8/13/2002

This is an excellent jewel in the city. The thai food is exqusit and by far the best offered in this city. There is a good mix of vegetarian and meet dishes. The wait can be a little long but that's no surprise with such a wonderfully ambiance and low prices. You can watch your food being prepared by Tom himself most of the time. A definate must eat at! more

Thai Tom is da Bomb! 7/22/2002

.... they say the more spice in the food you eat the more spice you have in bed. Well brace yourself boys, this is the best place to get really great & hot thai food! Watch out for the **stars**! A cute place to bring a date, sit at the counter, feel the heat and experiance a glimse of how the ""Thai Express"" works. The iced tea is a great way to cool things down a bit. There's no other place like it! Shout outs to Tom & Travis! Pros: inexpensive, the best peanut sauce, very tasty Cons: a bit small, sometimes crowded, hot more

Extremely small and dark, you might not notice that the space is pretty, with gold walls, painted bamboo lampshades and Thai art. A few tables line one wall and the open kitchen...
