Worst

I read the reviews as to how great this place was so I went cuz I am a HUGE fan of Thai food. The food is good but it would be way way way better without all the sugar the dump in...

Hole in the wall but good Thai 7/31/2012

Not a kid friendly or date night place. Go here for a quick lunch or to grab it to go. Notables are the Phad Thai, Green Curry, and Satay. more

way too sweet 3/21/2012

I read the reviews as to how great this place was so I went cuz I am a HUGE fan of Thai food. The food is good but it would be way way way better without all the sugar the dump in it. Thai food does incorporate a little palm sugar in many recipes but too much ruins the athenticity and turns it into gringo friendly thai. I personally dont want gringo friendly thai, I want it the REAL way. Maybe Seattle folks just dont have the chops for authentic thai. more

thai tyoms is bomb! 10/1/2011

Bring Tom back to cook!!! 7/25/2011

This was my first Thai place back in 1999 and it was the best. As far as I know Tom doesn't cook any longer. Quality of food has also declined along with the service. I am to go there tomorrow and meet up with the friend who introduced me to Tom's. She hasn't been in 12 years and I hope she isn't too bummed out. I also hope we don't get sick. That sucks that they're so nasty and can't keep it clean. Tom needs to come in and kick some a$$ if this is what is representing him or perhaps one of you others should dot an eye or two. No good service...No tips! more

Love it! 11/12/2010

I absolutely love this place. I fell in love with it the first time I ever ate here. One time I ordered 5 Stars, and after placing 1 carrot shred in my mouth my eyes were watering!! But it was still so good!! more

I would really like to give more stars but.... 7/8/2010

I am a huge fan of Thai food and I've been to dozens of Thai restaurants in the city. Thai Tom used to be my favorite but I had to give it up. The panang curry and phad thai were super good and I really wouldn't go above two stars unless you're a masochist. However, every time after I ate there, I would get stomach aches and wouldn't feel good at all. Then I read on the Seattle website that posts sanitary reviews of all restaurants that Thai Tom has almost been shut down several times for violations including food kept out for days, not washing hands and multiple insect sightings. This definitely will not ease my stomach. Pros: Great tasting, spicy, cheap, flavorful Cons: Sanitary, stomach hurts more

Worth the wait? Maybe 8/27/2009

I've been to Thai Tom twice, and it's great but when I ask myself how much I'd like it if it weren't for the long wait, I think it would be just slightly above average. People tend to follow the herd, whatever's popular, and if you inconvenience yourself to wait, you have to justify that to yourself if you don't want to feel like an idiot, so I think people over-estimate how good the food actually is. Pros: Unique, popular, good food Cons: 20+ minute wait more

old favorite but sorry can't give you five stars 8/7/2009

As an UW alumnus I've eaten at Thai Tom many times. For a student it was cheap and delicious food. I loved sitting at the counter wrapped around the cooking area and watching the cooks send up huge flames. Most of the times the food was fine. You go in, get seated, and get out within 30 minutes. For those people/reviewers that said the wait is long...did you not see the restaurant only has enough seating for 20 something people?? It's not their fault you have to wait for a long time. They can't exactly kick out their seated customers to accommodate you. Unlike most restaurants at Thai Tom you can SEE exactly how many people are seated and estimate how long it would take. Since college i've eaten Thai food at a few other countries including Thailand. The food at Thai Tom is not the BEST thai food. Any street vendor in Thailand will serve up a better tasting meal. Thai Tom tend to over spice and cook their food. As for the service, I have to agree with most people that it sucks. There is really no excuse for it. Recommendations: -call in for take out -ask for 2 stars (out of 5) or less (otherwise your food will be too spicy and kills other flavors) Pros: cheap food. good cooking show. Cons: cramped seating area and over cooked food more

I got lucky, it seems. 8/4/2009

Okay, I guess it was my lucky day when I went because: A. I didn't see one g**dam* crockroach. However I am vegan, and a crockroach wouldn't keep me from some fine vegan Thai food, since good, really good vegan food in restaurants if hard to come by. B. I did not get the True Religion Jeans Server or the Pony Tail Stink-Eye Server. How many servers can this small place have. I only saw one, and she was awesome, smiled alot, helped me when I spilled ice water all over myself after someone buttknocked my table. C. I only waited about 8 minutes. In retrospect, I would've easily waited 16 minutes. The heavy wooden WOODEN! menus were pretty awesome. So, the food came in about 3.3456 minutes, since they took my order before I even was seated. I had Tofu in Green Curry. F*cking delicious. really delicious. Huge portion. I ate every last bit and if I wasn't with my friend I would've ordered another and sat there contentedly for half hour nibbling on it. Still no ro*ches ('case you didn't know, citysearch doesn't let you say r*aches. Though there was some questionable food substance in a white industrial bucket three inches from my knees. In fact, I want to go again right now. Pros: Inexpensive, delicious, upbeat, crazy music! more

Horrible Service, Cockroachs in bathroom, food is average 7/27/2009

This is the morning after Thai Tom and our stomaches are in pain..... Pros: Relatively cheap thai food Cons: Long hair tall waiter, dirty (crockroach), strong tasting more

Oh my god ! 4/19/2009

Before I write this review, I read all the reviews that people posted in the past. I slowly realized that there is a famous waiter at this restaurant who I met today. Cons: Dirty, Bad customer service more

worst worst experience !!! Please do not go!!! 4/19/2009

They just do not know what customer service is. Pros: none!! Cons: terrible customer service more

If you want authentic, go to thai tom on the ave.. 1/1/2009

Thai Tom = best most authentic (adjective Pros: the best most authentic thai food in seattle Cons: you sometimes wait for a table yet it's completely worth it. more

Fresh veggies + HOT entrees = my new favorite 10/8/2008

After 4 years of dodging the line that spills out the door of this hole-in-the-wall, today I finally sucked it up and tried it out for the first time. I don't know what ""bad service"" people are complaining about. Look around! I've only seen restaurants this busy in Manhattan. Pros: Hot food, raggae music, hardworking friendly staff Cons: will probably make me fat because i'm going to eat there every day. more

Worst dining experience in my life! 9/5/2008

Their service is notorious as you can find. The food is merely ordinary Thai, but the service is far beyond nightmare. Pros: None of it. Cons: Service too bad. more

Restaurant experience that is not to be missed 9/2/2008

I've seen reviews on this for bad food and service. This is craziness. You have to go there for what it is. Its the semi-secret greasy spoon of Thai restaurants. Its small and dark, you always have to wait. The place already has more employees than the space can handle. Those that are there are running about breathlessly. And if you can't manage to grab one, its not because they aren't walking by every thirty seconds. Its an experience, a theater of cooking. The food is prepared at a stove that is in the center of the restaurant. About 4-5 dishes are going simultaneously. Ingredients fly into the pans, sauces come to the chef's hands as though he were using jedi powers. If the food tasted bad, the show would be well worth the price of admission. But as it is, the trip to Seattle must always include Thai Tom's. (we hail from Saint Paul, MN) For Thai, this tops the considerable experience we have with Asian food. Bravo! The Red Curry was very excellent tonight, and every meal I have tried there was tasty and quick, generally about 20% less than it costs elsewhere. I just can't say enough about it. I would tell people to ignore any rating under a four on this joint. I'd give it a 5 each of the 4 or 5 times I've been there. Pros: Watching food prep. Excellent food Cons: potential wait more

dirty nasty rude 8/18/2008

i waited too long for my food, guess what my food was bad and nasty dirty i can't even taste my food this is really thai food? i guess i could make it better than them. I wasted my money more

best thai food plus good show in town 7/17/2008

Tried all in the menu and like all except sweet and sour chicken . Highlight is chef jungles around his 5-6 pans non-stop with super speed and he never forget to taste before he finished up and passed the used pan into his prep cook hand just right speed. This is really incredible . Customer beside me call him George . He is tiny but really fast and very concentrated on his work . I keep comming back when I get in town . But George has very spicy hand his 5 stars ooh hell hot dont try problably he make most spicy food in town .The service is not really good but you must not care if you really like good -fresh food right in front more

Mmm.... 7/17/2008

I don't like waiting, but I was not disappointed that I did. It was the best Thai food I've ever had! I wish I didn't have to get cash out beforehand and I wish the rice didn't cost so much, but whatever. I liked watching my food being cooked in front of me and I loved leaving there smelling like Thai food. The leftovers were amazing the next day. more

Great Food, Small Place 6/22/2008

The rave reviews are accurate, the food here is great. The resturant itself however, is extremly small. The chairs are really wierd and feel like they are ready to break. Deffinetly not the place to take a big group or if you want to be comfortable while eating. This should be on your short list of top take out Thai for sure. Pros: Great Food Cons: Service isn't great, Resturant is really small, hot and crowded. Really cheap and uncomfortable Seating. more

Extremely small and dark, you might not notice that the space is pretty, with gold walls, painted bamboo lampshades and Thai art. A few tables line one wall and the open kitchen...
