wonderful bar 10/13/2007

I've been going to Tango for many, many years and feel compelled to write a review after too many terrific experiences to count. (The restaurant recently underwent a change in owners and, sadly, some of the staff left, but otherwise the place is unchanged.) You'll get wonderful service (I almost always sit in the bar versus the restaurant) and the food is some of the best meals I've had in town. Try the bistec, a cheese plate, the potato croquettes, and, of course, the El Diablo?not to be missed! The Queso Azul is consistently one of the best dishes I've ever had?ever, in my life!?and the ceviches can be very good. Pros: an amazing chef, great food, wonderful service, great wine list, El Diablo Cons: dinner can get a little pricey more

Disappointing 9/9/2007

Compared to our regular tapas fare from Chicago where we used to live (Cafe Iberico, Emilio's, Twist, Barcelona) this restaurant was fancy but not flavorful. The combinations are ambitious but fall flat. I can see people who have not eaten tapas before being impressed with the cuisine. If you are experienced with tapas, you will find it is much fanfare but not done particularly well. Where tapas should be a striking contrast of flavors and ingredients, somehow it ended up being just a mishmash. The setting and prices are quite upscale, which is difficult to reconcile with the unremarkable food. No plans to return. Pros: Upscale setting Cons: Unremarkable more

Not even close to worth it. 8/2/2007

I was treated to this restaurant as it?s really not in my budget to spend $100 per person for dinner. However, I have to say it?s not all that. Just because something is expensive doesn?t mean its good, or even that well prepared. The food is all right, the olives and cheeses they offer are very nice. But seriously, its way over priced for what it is. I?ve had much better tapas before at far cheaper places (Cafe Iberico in Chicago comes to mind). The sangria is very refreshing and perhaps the happy hour they offer is a decent value, but overall, not that impressed. For a special occasion I?d recommend the nearby Machiavelli for couples or Mamounia (Moroccan) for small groups. Both offer a great dinning experience, very good food and a much better value for your buck. Pros: The food is good Cons: Take out a loan to afford it. more

BEST RESTAURANT IN SEATTLE 12/29/2006

I LIVE IN NEW YORK BUT I'M FROM SEATTLE. I HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL OF THE BOULEYS, BOLOUDS, VON GERICHTEN ESTABLISHMENTS, BOBBY FLAY, MARIO BATALIA RESTAURANTS, ETC. I CAN ONLY TREAT MYSELF ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR IF LUCKY. MY WIFE AND I ARE CONSIDERED "FOODIES" BY FRIENDS. WHEN I SAY THAT THIS MEAL WAS ONE OF THE BEST I'VE HAD IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS, YOU KNOW MY REFERENCE. EVERY MORSEL FROM THE FIRST TO THE LAST WAS A TREAT. THE SERVICE WAS VERY NICE AND OUR SERVER "SENNEN" KNEW HIS WINES AS WELL AS WHAT TREATS TO RECOMMEND. I OFTEN WONDER WHEN READING REVIEWS IF THE REVIEWERS AREN'T IN FACT A BIT NAIVE. COME ON, UPSCALE RESTAURANTS ARE OFTEN EXPENSIVE (TANGO SERVES TAPAS SO YOU CAN SPEND AS MUCH OR AS LITTLE AS YOU WANT) HARD TO GET IN TO (HOW ABOUT TRYING A RESERVATION!!!!!). MY CRITICISM IS ABOUT THE OTHER REVIEWERS AND SEATTLE RESTAURANT GOERS HERE. MAYBE THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY CURRENT REVIEWS SINCE THIS RESTAURANT CHANGED HANDS. OUR EXPERIENCE WAS FANTASTIC. STARTING WITH THE DATES WRAPPED WITH BACON, A FAVORITE TAPAS OF MINE, WHICH WERE SO YUMMY, TO THE SPICY GREEN BEANS, SHRIMP, CROQUETS (POTATO DUMPLINGS WITH HAM AND CHEESE), FOLLOWED BY QUESO FUNDIDO, AND MIXED SEAFOOD, THEN FINISHED WITH WONDERFUL CHEESES (AMAZING BLUE, COWS MILK AND THE MILDEST GOAT I'VE HAD) AND THE BEEF TENDERLOIN. OH DID I MENTION THE DUCK CONFIT SALAD??? OUTSTANDING. THE CHOCOLATE CAKE MAY BE THE BEST DESSERT I HAVE HAD. PERIOD. IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN IN THIS RESTAURANT IN A WHILE, PLEASE TRY IT AGAIN. THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN SALMON AND DICK'S BURGERS IN SEATTLE. (I DO LOVE BOTH OF THESE). Pros: AMBIENCE, SERVICE, AMAZING QUALITY, VALUE!!! Cons: I WAS TOO FULL TO KEEP EATING!! more

Nice tapas, nice drink selection 10/30/2006

The bartenders have consistently been friendly and informative. The tapas is heavily meat and cheese laden, just as I like it. Lots of tasty port. A good location. Pros: open, articulate service Cons: a bit pricy more
