Best

If you go on a free haircut Monday, ask for Stacia. She cut my hair today and absolutely NAILED IT! she gave me exactly what I asked for only better, I have bangs with long layere...

Worst

I was hoping to get a great cut here but it was the 2nd worst haircut in my life. My bangs are much too short, much shorter than what I asked for. My hair is cut in a way that it ...

marvelous haircut by Tracey 2/26/2008

I am usually pretty picky about who cuts my hair and how it turns out... some people just don't cut mens' hair right. Tracey did an amazing job, made me feel comfortable, and I would highly recommend her! more

Best Facial in Chicago 2/18/2008

Looking for some much needed anti-winter rejuvenation, I visited Anne at Sine Qua Non for a facial and eyebrow wax. After being offered herbal tea, I was brought into a quiet, clean room and invited to ease onto a warmed bed. Relaxing music and lighting set a peaceful mood. Anne is attentive and therapeutic in her treatment. I have referred several people to her already and will continue to do so! For the facial, she used great products and was sooo relaxing. Wax was quick and painless. I looked and felt great afterward and friends noticed my glow for weeks afterward. This is a truly wonderful treat & retreat! Exactly what I needed! Pros: Chic, yet unpretentious staff. Relaxing atmosphere. Great service! more

Really easy to get to! 9/27/2007

I hopped around trying to find a great stylist and a location that wasn't a total pain to get to. I finally found it!! I go to the location on Clark or to the location at Lincoln & Roscoe. And I am so happy with my hair! Finally!!!!\r I really recommend these salons. Pros: Friendly, Skilled Stylists and an Easy Commute Cons: Must Book Appointment Ahead of Time (They DO Fill Up Quickly!) more

Consistently Amazing Haircuts 7/18/2007

Hands down the best haircuts in the city of Chicago. My stylist Amie is amazing. Everytime I come in (regardless if it's a cut or a trim) I leave happy! I usually come in after work, exhausted and with a fried brain. So my explanations of how I would like my hair cut are confusing, but Amie always understands my ideas! I'm sure Amie has lots of clients (and sees a handful a day), but you can tell that she sincerely cares about giving great cuts. I have recommended her to tons of firends, all of which loved their cuts and continue to go back, and I recommend her to you!!! Regardless of the type of hair you have or the cut you want I'm sure Amie will do an AMAZING job! Call Sine Qua Non (773) 871-2280 TODAY and schedule an appt. with Amie!!! more

Great Salon Expectations 7/17/2007

I highly recommend this salon...I received hair services from the Andersonville location. The staff was friendly and inviting. My stylist, Stevie, was informative and listened to all my concerns. I must note her precision and attention to detail when putting on my color and cutting my hair as I watched in the mirror. I was not rushed out for the next customer. But above all, I think the greatest part was an amazing hair wash following my color...no...I mean amazing...it was like butter! It was like a great scalp treatment, a suprising added bonus! The boutique setting was relaxing and not intimidating. Well worth every penny! Truly a great experience! Pros: A great salon experience!...like no other more

Front desk friendly, rude owner 7/10/2007

Many of my friends rave about Sine. I have decided to switch between two of their locations over the years. My experience near Lincoln and Roscoe was a lot more comfortable than at the Lincoln and Diversy location. (They are cool without being stuffy) I have always been greeted well at both. The haircuts near Roscoe were way better. (As far as giving me what I want) While I was at Lincoln and Diversey I tried to approach the owner and she totally brushed me off. I guess they're doing so well, it's not important to be nice anymore. That's why I go somewhere else now. Pros: Cool friendly staff Cons: unfriendly owner must think being rude is cool more

Sine Qua Non Salons 5/22/2007

I have been to sooooo many hair salons across the city, and I must to confess that I am obsessed w/ Sin Qua Non!! Not only does it have an intimate atmosphere (hair factory it IS NOT!!), but everytime I have gotten my hair cut and colored, I walked out feeling confident and amazing. I would TOTALLY recommend stylist Libby Sterling. From day one, she listened to my crazy and oftentimes unclear preferences for cut and color- and steered me back on track when needed. Definitely try this place out. more

Anne's THE BEST for men's eyebrows!!! 5/2/2007

I'm a guy who once had an eyebrow problem. Mainly it was just one brow. After trying a few different places and ending up with majorly femmy brows, a friend of mine suggested Anne at Sine Qua Non. She is magical with actually masculine eyebrows. I can't say enough good things about her. She's great at what she does and she makes you feel comfortable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Pros: Great technicians, fun atmosphere Cons: None - I love it there more

Best waxing/eyebrow shaping anywhere 5/2/2007

Best brow waxing and shaping I've ever had. In the past, at different places I've gone, I've never been quite satisfied with my finished look. But Anne, the esthetician at Sine, spent a good deal of time shaping my brows - I almost felt like she was an artist working on a canvas! She was both professional and informative, plus very nice to boot. I've now added facials to my visits and I've never been disappointed in all the times I have been back. Pros: Pleasant staff, great services, hip Cons: None to date more

right on the mark 4/23/2007

after reading a million reviews on citysearch of various salons and having already had two crappy haircuts since moving to chicago from new york last fall, i was *really* hoping to find a place where i could get a good cut for not a fortune. (nothing worse than throwing down $100 for a cut you don't even like.) having curly hair and erring on the ocd-side of picky in terms of how i like my curls to look, i don't settle easily. but i took the gamble, made an appointment with libby, paid $56 (before tip) for the cut, and am really really happy with the work she did. i can't speak to the horror stories some reviewers are attesting to. everything was fine. i don't really care whether i'm offered coffee or if the person who makes my appointment becomes my best friend after one chat...that said, everyone was friendly and easy-going and i was offered hot beverages and all of that stuff. what matters to me is finding a stylist who listens and knows how to cut curly hair and will work with me to figure out what will look best. libby did that. so, if that is what you are looking for, she's definitely worth the try. good luck! more

Best haircut of my life! 3/8/2007

When I got to the salon, I was greeted immediately and someone took my coat and offered me a cup of herbal tea. The woman who washed my hair gave the best scalp massage. The atmosphere is really hip, but not at all stuffy. Everyone was really nice and all the stylists seem to get along really well. \r \r I have really thick and curly hair and every haircut I've gotten hasn't made a difference, I literally couldn't even tell I had my haircut, except for my wallet being a little lighter! But Libby gave me my first ""real"" haircut! She thinned it out, put in some great layers, I have never been happier with my hair! I don't even have to ""do it"" in the morning, just put in a little texturizing cream and go! If you have thick or unruly hair, GO SEE LIBBY!!! Pros: Great stylists! Cons: None. more

My stylist didn't know how to use a razor-my hair looked like a frizzball 2/1/2007

The positive reviews for this salon have to be written by Sine Qua Non employees. They sound really fake, and blown up. \r My experience here was nothing out of the ordinary. A great salon will offer you a glass ot water or coffee. I didn't get asked if I wanted anything, not even, ""may I take your coat?""\r My stylist, was a nice guy, but used the dreaded razor on my hair, leaving my hair looking like I got my head stuck in an electric socket. The next day, I had to go to another salon to gt my hair fixed. I paid 45 bucks for the cut, and 60 to get it fixed SOMEWHERE ELSE> Never would I go into this salon to get my hair cut. I even brought a picture to make it easier. I hardly walked out of the salon looking like i got my hair done. It was awful. Sine Qua Non employees have to STOP posting their own reviews-its all advertising. If you go to some of the other salons on Citysearch-ones that have been well established and are good-they dont have nearly as many reviews as this one does. The stylist I saw here needs to go back to haircutting school. \r AVOID Pros: Nice stylist.... Cons: who didn't know how to cut hair. more

could be great...depending on who you work with 12/22/2006

I've been going to the salon for many years, and have been mostly pleased with my experiences. Here are my recommendations:\r 1) Sheba - Excellent haircut and color every time. On the cutting edge, but knows how to match your style. Good conversationlist (or not, depending on what your mood is...doesn't do uncomfortable chitchat). No BS. Professional. Stylish. Friendly.\r 2) Susan - Only been to her once, but loved my cut. Stylish. Friendly. Listens well.\r 3) Holly - Liked my color, but not my cut. Personality can be a little abrasive, as can her brushing techniques. Good to go to if you just want color, and if you have a thick skin (literally and figuratively). Not a very relaxing experience.\r 4) Glenn - a master!! Perfect every time, and a charming personality.\r 5) Hilda - get her to wash your hair if she's available!! So kind, and the best scalp massage!! more

The BEST salon for both men and women. 12/19/2006

I can't recommend Sine Qua Non enough, all of the staff are very professional and I like the atmosphere at each of the locations- this is seriousl a class act. My personal experience is that Stevie is fantastic. I have a bunch of friends that go to other staff and I have only heard great things so I wouldn't hesitate to go to any of the stylists. more

Cool stylist, great cut 12/15/2006

I just got my hair cut this morning at the 2766 address with Amy and she did a great job. My hair is straight and very thick and she took the time to dry it properly and to reshape it after it had been blown. It's one of the best cuts I've had since I moved here from New York five years ago. I wanted to tell her boss she did a fabulous job, but was instead asked to give her kudos here. She was awesome; greet personality, great energy, very talented. It's taken me a long time to find a stylist who understands my hair. I think she's it. Pros: good cut, mod staff more

Just Plain Love It 12/6/2006

I moved back to Chicago about a year & a half ago. I was ready to try 6 or more salons to find a good fit, as I have extremely high standards and expectations when it comes to my hair. I read the reviews about Sine Qua Non and found them to be spotty - most of the complaints seemed to be centered around ""rude"" or ""snobby"" staff. The positive reviews, however, were all based on what's important - quality of service. I'm not particularly sensitive to what some people perceive to be ""attitude"", so I made an appointment for a cut and color with Stevie and ever since I have been hooked. I found the atmosphere to be quite relaxed (I've been to some very upscale salons and I know snobby when I see it), and Stevie's skills are beyond compare. Since that time I have ONLY gone to Stevie at the Lincoln/Diversey location. I am always thrilled with the outcome and the staff has never been anything less than welcoming and pleasant. To those who say it's expensive I say this: you get what you pay for and you can't put a price on greatness. more

all my friends go .... 11/14/2006

it started with one, and now all 6 of us go to this salon ... including one who flies in from nyc ... and another who drives up from champaign. \r they serve the most awesome herb tea when ya sit down. it's a fun & fresh salon with the cutest hair stylists. we love their bumble and bumble products - which are never pushed on us, but yet we still buy! \r more

Trendy and Friendly 10/28/2006

I've only been in for a wax so far, but I was very impressed with the whole operation. After looking at the website I thought this place would be a bit too tragically hip; to my relief, everyone was incredibly nice and down to earth (though still very trendy). The waxing services were top-notch and I appreciated the extra time the esthetician took to talk with me before we got started. I will definitely be going back. more

Great hair cut 10/20/2006

David is a great stylist! Good service, friendly staff, warm environment. Good location, meter parking usually available. more

CREDIT CARD 10/15/2006

I just move from South America, and I dont have a credit card yet.I was desperate to have a haircut,my hair is too long and curly,so I call the salon. They offer me an appointment that same day,i was so happy but then they ask me for a credit card number,I explain my situation and they didn´t care,I even told the lady on the phone that I could go there and wait for my appointment sitting there, but nothing worked.I understand the policies of companies, but I think its not fair that if you are new in this country, just moved and in a desperate need of a haircut they dont care.I was really expecting her to understand my situation,I just hope I dont have the same experience in other places, companies, stores, etc.....just because I´m foreign and I dont have a credit card yet :-( Pros: they didnt gave me the chance.... Cons: they didnt gave me the chance more
