david cut my hair for the first time and let me tell you, he's amazing. i have curly, difficult hair and i always blow it out straight, but david showed me how to style it myself. believe it or not, i went home tried it the next day---success! i recommend highly recommend him! Mediocre at Best 7/8/2005

All these glowing reviews must be coming from SQN employees and their friends. I've been to both locations and find nothing to rave about. The stylists really didn't know how to design a cut based on my hair texture, face shape, and a description of what I had in mind. Come to think of it, not many stylists in Chicago seem to know how to do that anymore. Don't believe all the propaganda here--SQN is mediocre at best. They won't mess up your hair. 6/16/2005

Decent salon, prices that you should expect when cutting your hair in the city. Stylist have all kind of ratings and prices, My stylist is Sam and isn't the highest in that range. its a good place for a trim, nothing innovative, environment is clean, but not posh. Salon is about 2 blocks from the brown line, there is a starbucks near by. more

Summer has managed to do what no one else has accomplished: making my coarse, wavy, thick hair fun to work with. She definately listens to what you want, and knows how to work with what you have, not against it. Several times I have had to reschedule my appointment for much later because the cut even grows out nicely. Pros: skilled stylists, atmosphere more

the atmosphere created by the sine qua non staff is what keeps me coming back. the staff is friendly and upbeat...they always look like rock stars and they are always playing awesome music. the front desk girls are the best...they do their best to make you feel at home. more

Laura - my hair Guru 3/21/2005

Laura has been my hair consultant for a munber of years and each time I leave the salon I look and feel great. I have received many compliments about my hair style and have referred my friends and coworkers. Laura has suggested changes for my style and each change has improved my appearance. Lauras biggest fan is my husband. Roger. He's a chef and as a thank you to Laura, he baked some goodies for the staff. more

The Best Salon in the City 3/13/2005

I have been to Sine twice and both times I was beyond impressed. The first time I went I saw Ken, who gave me an adorable cut, and did a great job on my lip and brow wax! I got nothing but compliments on the cut! The second time I went I saw David, and I had told him that I wanted to grow my hair out, but in a way that the ""awkward phase"" wouldn't really exist. He has succeeded, and my hair is growing out beautifully. The thing about Sine is that they listen, which is a problem I have had at other Salons in the city (and I have tried them all). I will be returning to Sine once my hair is a bit longer! Pros: Great Staff, Great Waxing, Awesome value more

Though a little on the pricy side, Sine Qua Non Salon is definitely worth it. Newcomer David Noll is wonderful - very attentive, complementary, and not at all afraid to make suggestions (if that's what you want). I can truly say I've never really left a salon liking the way my hair was styled until I came here. They're up on the latest trends and styles, and are great about charging a reasonable amount (considering the starting prices to begin). Give it a try! I have been going to Sine Qua Non since I moved to Chicago and have been more than satisfied with not only the professionalism but skill of both Jennifer and Kimberly. Jennifer offers amazing skincare (her massages are unbelievable) and is incredibly thorough. Kimberly offers an amazing men's cut and gives me a great, updated style and listens to what I want. Sheba is a miracle. She knows how to work with what you've got and has an uncanny ability to gauge what you'll be comfortable with. On my first visit to Sheba a year ago, I went in with an awkward, between-styles look and came out with a stylish and VERY easy-care cut. I'm hooked. I must say, I was surprised at how nice people were there. I'm used to going to salons where you get that stare up and down. But the staff were smiling and actually seemed like they were all having a great time with each other. Susan cut my hair and she did exactly what I wanted. That never happened to me before. Sonia is the best!!!! 9/21/2004

Sonia has cut my hair for about four years now, in Milwaukee and now here in Chicago. She does everything and more. I am very picky about my hair and she has yet to fail me. She does excellent color and she is very educated and talented in her field. She is always learning something new and continues to amaze me. Whether you want something new and trendy, or just a trim, she cuts very accurately and accomodates to your needs. Sonia is by far the best stylist I have ever had and I strongly reccomend her. Besides having amazing talent, she has a great personality, easy to get along with and you can feel comfortable talking to her about anything. I've been coming to Siné my last few hair appointments, and its always great! Everyone is so accommodating even when it gets really busy. The atomosphere is comfortable and funky - good music, too. I'm really picky and I really like it when someone listens to me, and the last 2 stylists I tried [Susan and Ken] were really willing to listen and offer their ideas and work with me to get exactly what I wanted.
