Salon 17

This salon has recently moved, and is now located in a quiet, cozy, boutique style atmosphere at Orenco Station in Hillsboro. As the overhead of the previous larger location has been eliminated, the prices are incredibly reasonable while maintaining the same excellent and unparalleled industry expertise and I have officially been "wowed". I've always been pretty happy with my stylist at another salon, but for some reason I decided to try Jennifer on a whim. I am a perfectionist...and my hair is perfect in every way, both cut and color. My styling time has been cut in half as I no longer have to mess with those "trouble areas". The color is gorgeous, rich, and shiny (I was having problems with the color being consistent from root to end). The scalp massage and hot towel treatment was nothing short of heaven, and I am officially converting! Love, love, love my hair and my experience at Salon 17!!! Thanks Jennifer!! one word, RUN dont walk away from this salon. I have a burn on my forhead for all my wedding pic and H-moon, the owner her self fixed or "burned" my hair, she also showed up in a hot pick track suit! anyways move on to the next salon this lady has been all over hillsboro and has a bad rep more

When you want the best salon experience...this is it. The "lather lounge" is the ultimate treat where you will experience a massage chair and a scalp massage all while getting pampered with the best hair products around. There is no doubt Salon 17 is the best at what they do and their products are top of the line!! Pros: Spa Experience Cons: None more

The experience at Salon 17 is great from the glass of wine when you walk in, to the scalp massage and the hot towel after the massaging shampoo. Jennifer has been cutting my hair for about 5 years now and I would never even consider letting anyone else touch it. She's an awesome stylist who listens to what her clients want and knows how to make their hair look great. The products the salon uses are awesome. I love Phyto and the new Michael Murphy. Yes, the products are more expensive than your bottle of pantene from the grocery store, but they last for months and work so much better. You get what you pay for, and you can't expect a $10 bottle of shampoo to give you the results of real professional products. So if you want to spend as little money as possible on your hair then go to great clips. If you actually care about the health and beauty of your scalp and hair then go to Salon 17. Darcy is also great for waxing. The wax that she uses doesn't stick to the skin so it is less painful than other waxes and especially those awful strips that turn you purple. (Darcy has never cut my hair so I can't comment on that) Overall, if you want to have a great salon experience then Salon 17 is your place!! They carry a brand called Phyto. Wow a hair line that actually works!!! Its not highly marketed so I had never heard of it before but I will never ever go without it again. And the staff a Salon 17 are amazing stylists and really knew how to address my frizzy out of control hair! They were great at suggesting products to help me. I was worried that this stuff wouldn't work but after the results I went back and bought LOTS more. I even got my family into Salon 17 and Phyto. I'm amazed I hadn't tried Salon 17 before. I'm in the area often and just popped in one day and that was the happiest pop in of my life. I'm getting mushy but they were so kind, understanding and wonderful. Its like finally finding a mechanic that you know wont rip you OFF. Thank you SALON 17!!! Pros: Yep they are PROS Cons: My appointmet ended. Now I have to wait until I need some more work! more

My experiences with Salon 17 have been nothing but pleasurable and insightful. The owner is courteous and ready to answer any question. The staff is knowledgable and skilled. i went to salon 17 this past weekend on a whim... i happened to walk by and decided to i needed my hair colored and hoped someone might have time to get me in... not only was my stylist wonderful the whole staff had great customer service, we talked about my budget and came to a price based on what i wanted done but my budget as well. They gave me a great client refferal discount that i can use and i will definetly recommend to all my friends! For the first time since i moved to portland i finally have to hair exactly how i asked for it and i think i have found my salon! Pros: takes walk ins, wonderful customer service and skills Cons: none! more

I have been on this site before and wrote a review. I came back to write another review as i just got my hair cut and absoloutly loved it! Im very dissapointed to see these negative reviews and have to speak up about it. Everytime i go in there, my stylist and I always sit down and quote my hair when doing color of course! I know that everything you do to your hair is different priced whether it be all over color or high lights or whatever. I have never been charged more than what was quoted and always have such a wonderful experience here! To wrap this up i say Go to salon 17!! you will love your hair and always come out happy! And if you have a price that you need to stay within just make sure to communicate that with your stylist ahead of time and there will never be any issues:) Pros: wine, beautiful washing area, friendly staff, great parking Cons: nothing! more

I have been to this salon plenty of times and have had no problem out of the ordinary. Sure theres little mistakes here and there but Ive NEVER paid too much for my services. The prices are reasonable when you think about all they are doing. You walk in, they offer wine water or tea. Then you sit with your stylist and they talk to you about what's going to happen today as they massage your scalp with this amazing Phyto scalp treatment oil. Then comes the wash in there "lather lounge" which I have to say is amazing! Its dark in there with really soft lights that make you feel very relaxed. I love how I get my hair cut wet and dry! Ive gone to everyone who is there and loved every time! They tell me the my estimated price before we begin and it never goes higher then that. You people who are complaining about the price need to have a consoltation before you begin. I dont mind paying the price I do for an hour (or more depending on the service) of feeling pampered to the MAXX and walking away with great hair! I would recomend this salon to anyone! more

I will keep this short and simple, I went here about a year ago and was super dissapointed...I then swore to never go there again. They recently called me to say I was the winner in a drawing for "25 bucks off a hair service." So, I said okay, book me! I asked how much a color was, and they said sixty. I said I would like that, and only that. 35$ was what I budgeted for this salon visit, plus tip. During my treatment, my stylist is talking about this and that that she is going to do, and I barely understand any of it ( and I do my hair prob twice a year in upscale places) My charge at the end-155! No way, I did not askk for this extra stuff, I say. "Well, this is what you had done, so...."I paid, although I can in no way shape or form afford this. I am now trying to figure out how I am going to replace this money in my checking account! I am about to call and get the owners phone number. I hope this place closes! I have thick hair that I never dye and was looking for some place other than a great clips/super cuts type for a haircut. I called Salon 17 and they told me a woman's cut started at $45. However, I later found out that the stylist I go to is $60. Her name is Liz and I would highly recommend her. The salon is very nice and they will offer you a drink when you come in. My typical experience is talking with Liz about the style I want. She will spend time to understand what I want and then explain to me how feasible it is. A few times I wanted something that my hair was just not long enough for. She was able to model how it would look, and gave me great cuts until a few visits later when it was finally long enough for what I wanted. After that, she will exfoliate and massage my scalp. Then it's off to a dark room for shampooing and scalp and neck massages in a massaging chair. She also uses a warm towel around your face and ears. She always gives me great haircuts, pretty much the best I have ever had. She will blowdry it, and then spend a while cleaning it up and finishing it once it's dry. The first time I was there, there was a push to buy products, which I did. Now I just say I don't need them. Liz gives me incredible haircuts. I get many compliments, not just "your hair looks good" but also "that?s a great haircut". I have never had it dyed by here (or anywhere), so I can't comment on that, but Liz does great hair cuts. I went to Salon 17 on a personal recommendation and visited Jennifer. I got the best hair cut since I moved to Portland over 3 years ago. I had been going from salon to salon and from this person to that as my hair is admittedly difficult to cut. I had fun there too. People were drinking wine and laughing and Oh That Shampoo Room is The BEST! I didn't want to get up after this thing she does with this hot towel. I have told several friends and coworkers about them and will definitely be back. I actually made my next appointment before I left which is something I haven't done since my stylist in Atlanta. The hours are great since they are open evenings which works with my schedule. One recommendation I would make is to check out the The Streets of Tanasbourne's website for specials and coupons, I missed a deal that I could have used. I'm new to the area and did a lot of investigating before finding a salon to 'test out.' I admittedly used my 8-year old daughter as a guinea pig at another local salon that bombed the 'simple kids bob' test. Thank GOODNESS I didn't let her touch my own hair! Fortunately, I stumbled into the hands of Darcy at Salon 17 in Tannasbourne. I was a little apprehensive going there at first because I have this theory that you WAY overpay anytime you go to a 'mall salon.' Her prices seemed reasonable though (though other stylists charge more.) The staff was super friendly and flexible and even work evenings to accommodate my difficult schedule. Chris, the receptionist was great... very friendly and professional. The salon itself is a hip industrial chic. Concrete floors, european decor, etc, and the shampoo chairs are MASSAGE CHAIRS! They use and sell the Phyto products, which are GREAT. I went in and Darcy went right to work after bringing me a glass of wine. She was SO friendly and knowledgable. She did my cut and color, with a little more 'kick' than I was expecting, but when I got home I actually got the coveted, "WOW, I love your hair!" comment from my boyfriend. I'm in that critical stage now... 6-8 weeks past the cut date. The shape still works well after a couple of months and I haven't had to resort to the dreaded pony-tail up-do. Darcy seemed to have a great understanding of what would work best for my extra-fine hair, and gave me a cut to be proud of. I can't wait to go back to see her! Thanks Darcy!!! I got a color and cut with Jeremy and i am so excited! I got a totally new look, some great new products and had a great time, Jeremy is hilarious! I must admit it was a little on the spendy side but it was so well worth it! It's like getting hollywood hair without making the trip! He's cute also. more

I recently got my hair done at Salon 17 and am so impressed! I have very dry hair that seems to frizz no matter what I do but after seeing Jennifer it has gone away! Jennifer literally gave me the "Princess Treatment," which is a deep conditioning, healing treatment for your hair, that makes it feel amazing.
