Best

get yellowtail sashimi with jalapenos!!

Worst

What is the big deal about this overpriced, extremely loud, too tightly spaced tables, bad service and average sushi joint? Okay, so you want to see celebrities, go but you will ...

Yum! 12/15/2008

I absolutely LUV japanese food, and i went to Nobu with such high expectations, all of which were fulfilled. I will go back to my friends and rave. Pros: Amazingness Cons: I had to leave! more

Best Japanese Meal Ever.. 10/22/2008

This is probably the best Japanese fusion restaurant I've ever been to. Everything we had wasn't authentic Japanese, but all of them maintained a flavour from Japan - in either the ingredients or the seasoning , and I think the ""fusion"" turns out to be superb. more

Times may a change, but Nobu's food is still amazing! 10/21/2008

After dinner tonight, I realize why Nobu's been going strong for nearly 15 years: the signature dishes are unforgettable!! In particular, the new style sashimi, the sashimi salad, the jallepeno yellow tail, and the rock shrimp; I remember they made my eyes roll back in my head when I first tried them nearly a decade ago. Tonight marks my fourth visit since then, and every time, the food - the cold dishes in particular - seem more amazing than I remembered! \r \r There are some minor drawback that should be mentioned. For example, those who seat you tend to be aloof and a little snooty, as if to perpetuate the myth that Nobu remains 'the' exclusive celebrity hot-spot (based on tonight, you're more likely to see tables of financial guys than Howard Stern or Mark Wahlberg). It's also very difficult to get a reservation, which is baffling since there were at least 4 large tables unoccupied for a couple hours! Despite these problems, however, the actual wait staff are very attentive, helpful, and fast. And the fact remains that the dishes, the main attraction, should not to be missed! more

Try the Omokase 10/14/2008

Seriously, the number of reviewers who came here and rated it poorly because they ordered off the menu and found it pricey for small portions obviously do not understand "" fine dining"". I hate to sound like a snob, but portions are not meant to be huge!\r Anyways, we ordered the $120 Omokase (tasting menu) and it is beyond ridiculous how amazing it was. We sat at the sushi bar and watched our sushi chef prepare our food which was beautiful to look at and heavenly on the palate. The sashimi was fresh and light. Interspersed with the raw were hot dishes that also blew us away- the shrimp was to die for.\r For dessert, we were given a palate cleanser and then presented with a tofu cheesecake ( doesn't sound great but it's the best cheesecake I've ever had and I've had lots) that was light and not overly sweet with the creamiest texture. This was balanced with two apple dumplings and two tuiles. I so wanted to finish the whole thing because it may have been the best dessert of my life thus far, but I was too full from our 12 courses of sushi to eat another bite.\r I rarely walk out of a sushi restaurant feeling this full or this satisfied but NND did it for me. It's too bad so many other reviewers had such a negative experience; maybe they just need to try the Omokase next time! Pros: Everything! Cons: That I can't eat there everyday! more

Great Sushi! 9/30/2008

I have been to Nobu numerous times in NYC, Vegas, and the Bahamas and I have never been dissapointed. The food and service was exceptional and I enjoyed my dining experience from the moment i arrived until I left. I would recommend Nobu to any sushi lover more

Lives up to its reputation 5/20/2008

Simply outstanding! The best sushi I've ever had.\r \r I am not the most adventurous sushi eater. I'm a California roll and eel man. I like hamachi, maguro and some of the more common sushis but I don't love them. However, at Nobu, I was converted. Almost a religious experience onto itself. I had the chef's tasting menu which had a lot of fish I normally wouldn't try but I went for it. WOW!! The flavors were subtle, crisp and very clean. Extremely creative in presentation and taste. I paired my dinner with a bottleof Veuve Clicquot, which seemed to really bring out the sweet and salty flavors. Service was excellent considering I didn't have reservations on a Saturday night, they were very accomodating as the place was packed.\r \r This was a very pleasant evening and I highly recommend a visit. It's not cheap but well worth it. Dining at Nobu is one of those things you have to do before you die. Pros: sushi, ambience, service more

Not recommendable to anyone. Waste of Money! 5/7/2008

I went out to see what the hype about Nobu was. Everyone said it was the best sushi. So what started out as a night of excitement turned out into one of the worst nights dining out ever. I love sushi. I love to eat great japanese food and nobu had its hype. But starting from the reservation to paying the check the waitress and hostess were both rude. They had this snobby attitude that it was a please just to be able to get in and eat at their restaurant. I work at a restaurant myself and that isn't how a customer should be treated. Well besides that the food was at most okay. The portions are SMALL but that is to be expected from a japanese cuisine. The sashimi was at least fresh. But there was just something off about it. The food quality was so bland. Nothing exciting for a fusion restaurant. The black cod was good i gotta say, kinda sweet but good. The gingerbread dessert was dry. I thought it was old or something. Not enjoyable at all. I wouldn't recommend nobu to anyone. There are better places to spend your money. Cons: Bad service, bad food, too expensive more

bland 4/28/2008

I recently dined at NOBU on a saturday nite with 3 friends. It was our 1st time and was looking forward to it, since hearing soo much about it. The decor and atmosphere are comfortable, the service seamless and a little snobby as was the host who took reservation. I love sushi and eat it all the time and here it was boring and unoriginal, although very fresh. We ordered 3 cold dishes, 3 hot dishes and 4 sushi all had little flavor especially the fluke with spinach salad and portions were tiny. Thanfully we ordered the rock shrimp, best thing we ate. The bento box was also boring, everyone has a warm molten chocolate cake and the green tea ice cream tasted vanilla. Wouldn't go back but can say I tried it. Pros: service and ambience Cons: price, portion and flavor more

GREAT PEOPLE, GREAT FOOD, GREAT ATMOSPHERE! 3/18/2008

So after reviewing all off the sushi restaurants on citysearch...I gave up! There are going to be ups and downs of a restaurant everywhere you go. So, i decided to ask an old friend who has lived in the city for years. He wasn't a huge sushi fan but he seemed to know what he was talking about. He recommended Next Door Nobu to us, and made reservations for us, so be decided to give it a shot. Me being an avid sushi lover eating at top well renowned sushi restaurants across the nation..I was EXTREMELY impressed! They seated us as soon as we got there.. a little close to the neighboring tables, but at one was a very famous celebrity so that was neat! Lighting was dim but they gladly gave us a candle. We ordered cocktails (over priced house wine) two cut rolls rolls from the sushi menu and dessert. It was all above and beyond out standing!! Some of the best sushi I've ever had.. not expensive at all compared to even to your local market. I highly recommend the Shrimp Tempura roll and the chocolate peanut butter banana for dessert. We had some regulars on one side of us and they treated them like royalty.. if I lived near TriBeCa I would definitely be a regular. Also, its a lot of locals, it was no nice to get away from the touristy crowd. Overall, SO FRESH!! I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Pros: Really fresh food, even soups! Cons: Overpriced cocktails, hard to see menu in such darkness (at night atleast) more

Avoid TAKE OUT 2/22/2008

I ordered take out from Nobu Next Door awhile back and it was a miserable experience. The people on the phone were rude, the person at the restaurant was rude and just down right nasty. They charge a huge service fee for the food, got the order wrong, and what should have been a dinner for 4 was a dinner for 2 children it seems. Big disappointment!!! Pros: The food is good Cons: Service is AWFUL more

loved it 2/15/2008

I went to Nobu and ordered some Asian Fusion Jap. Food, i have to say it was pretty good. If you like desserts, order the chocolate souffle! It's to die for. I would go back, but it's a bit pricey. Pros: Good Food Cons: Close tables, really pricey more

Not bad but not great 1/22/2008

Came here for lunch during restaurant week. For appetizers, we had the Sashimi Salad with Matsuhisa Dressing and Rock Shrimp Tempura with Creamy Spicy Sauce. For the main dish, we had Broiled Black Cod with Miso and Beef Teriyaki with Pepper Sauce. Dessert was a Gingerbread cake with Ginger and Caramel Ice Cream with Dark Chocolate sauce. Sashimi was two pieces of seared tuna, field greens, and caviar; a bit salty but then fish eggs are salty: it was good. Shrimp was surprisingly plentiful; good taste but not spicy. Cod was good but a little too sweet. Beef was okay but very soft; cooked medium. The dessert was good. The ginger bread was not overpowering. Ice cream was good. The sauteed bananas in the dessert were cold. Service was prompt. Overall a good experience but I expected more from Nobu. Decor was okay. Bathrooms were not as nice as some other fine restaurants. The place is not that big. For some reason, I expected a large restaurant. Cons: price, portions more

Don't be fooled by the hype - Overrated, pretentious, and overly priced food. Terrible sushi. 12/29/2007

I took my parents here because I was told by friends that it had the most amazing sushi. We even got there early to make sure we got a table. My Taiwanese family loves sushi - we've been to Japan several times, my grandparents on both sides were educated there, and my grandmother lived there for years before she retired and moved to the US to be closer to her kids. Growing up, we ate it at least 2-3 times a month. \r \r The food at Nobu Next Door was extremely disappointing. The kushiyaki had a Mexican taste to them. The tofu tempura (what I assumed was supposed to be like Agedashi tofu) came with a very plain, flavorless dipping sauce. The rock shrimp tempura (reportedly one of the more popular dishes) tasted like a less-tastier (yet more expensive) version of a Chinese dish we've had. These non-sushi dishes seemed more like Americanized food than Japanese food with a pretentious presentation to fool customers into thinking they're expensive.\r \r We ordered sushi, as well - the portions of fish were skimpy and mediocre. I expected so much more after the rave reviews from friends and online. The service was really good, though. \r \r Overall, we were appalled that people consider this to be the best (or even good) sushi. Save your $ and get better sushi/Japanese food at your neighborhood joint. Pros: Service Cons: Food, price more

Greatest Japanese Fusion Food in NYC 9/19/2007

We go to Next Door regularly and order takeout from them at least once a week and never once have we had a bad experience. Granted, we've picked a standard set of dishes we normally order, but the food has remained consistent over the years, never disappointing. Without the hoopla of Nobu, you get the same great food and solid service (although the basement floor could be better ventilated and deodorized). From the sake selection to the specials to the old favorites, great great great. True, not the best sushi joint, but one would be missing out ordering sushi from their kitchen.\r Pros: Great food, good sake selection Cons: Can't really think of any more
