very good but overrated 1/14/2006

The quality of the food @ Nobu is very good overall , but the way the ingredients are prepared lacks refinement (which does not justify the price). The service is friendly & usually spot-on but be careful for hidden fees (edamame set out @ table before introduction is not complementary - costs $5.50). I did order the $100 omakase. The raw fish courses (sans sushi) were tasty but unbalanced. The hot courses were disappointing - black cod cooked unevenly, toro (gave me scraps). Sushi: fish excellent but too much rice/too sweet. Dessert: wonderful - flouress chocolate cake w/ green tea ice cream. Conclusion: excellent if it were $60, mediocre for $100 Pros: good service, nice design, energetic crowd Cons: too expensive, very loud, mediocre chef more

not bad for vegas sushi 1/4/2006

I am spoiled by all the amazing choices in Los Angeles. I found this to be far too cafeteria like for my taste. Not individual enough. . .and while the sushi is good this restaurant does not live up to it's hype.... more

Nobu was a beautiful, if surprisingly small, space. My cocktail - a champagne-based martini - was one of the best (and most unique) I've ever had. The edamame had the tastiest large salt flakes sprinkled over the top. The table-runners were model gorgeous. But the sushi and tempura were only average. The latter had many interesting a la carte options (pumpkin!) but the batter was a bit heavy. Pros: Unique cocktails, Great people-watching more

FANTASTIC 7/17/2005

We had the chef's tasting menu, and were absolutely floored. Everything we had was great, was served at the right pace, and was the best Japanese food and sushi we've ever had. It wasn't cheap, but fairly priced for the quality. We, too, found the service to be exceptional, and when each course was served, it was explained in detail. The room was loud, but fun and a hip trendy crowd, including Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla on the night we were there. We would recommend the tasting menu to get a taste of their signature dishes. Outstanding! Pros: Great food, Great service, Hip trendy place Cons: loud room, rather small space more

Fabulous! 4/11/2005

Perfection in sushi! Loved every moment of our dinner! Had the waitress pick out her favorite sushi rolls and hot dish and was not disappointed. Had reservations and was seated promptly, good wine/drink list, good lighting....they know what they are doing at Nobu. Didn't think it was too expensive either, despite some of the reviews posted here. Pros: sushi, sushi, drinks more

good food, great service, but pricey! 3/28/2005

My boy friend and I took a vacation to Vegas last weekend. I have heard good things about Nobu, so I was excited to check it out when we're there. First of all, the service was AMAZING! I just had to mention that. We're very satisfied with appetizers; Yellow Tail Tartar, Yellotail Sashimi with Ponzu & Jalapeno, & Kobe Beef (tataki style). The Y.T. was so fresh & full of flavor & Kobe Beef was melting on our tongue!! After experiencing the flvor explosion in our mouths, we're dying to try some sushi and rolls. We have ordered Albacore and Tuna Sushi, House Special, Spicy Tuna, and Shrimp Tempura Roll. Surprisingly, they were just okay. The rolls were rather disappointing if you're from LA! However, I still recommend Nobu, because some of thier dishes I mentioned earlier were just too yummy to miss out!! Pros: fresh ingredients, incredible appetizers, GREAT SERVICE Cons: boring rolls more

Great Food, but very costly 3/20/2005

If you like Sushi, then this is the place to go. It has a trendy atmosphere; a ""fun"" place to go to. It is a little expensive, but it you're willing to shell out the money for good food, then this is the place to go! Pros: Food, Atmosphere Cons: Expensive more

Amazing Sushi in Vegas ?! 3/8/2005

We go back to Nobu each time we're in Las Vegas, which, if you're from San Francisco, is really saying something. I love the ""new-style"" sashimi and the white fish toradito. My dining companion is a certified hard-core sushi freak, and was wowed by the quality of the toro and the kampachi. The biggest surprise was the yummy banana spring roll dessert, one doesn't normally associate sushi places with good desserts. Our one caution about Nobu would be the pricing on the menu. Although an order of toro nigiri is two pieces, the menu price ($12) is per piece. The check included $48 for two orders of toro. Be careful! We are, however, willing to pay this once a year for the exeptional fish at Nobu. Pros: sushi quality, original dishes, atmoshere Cons: tricky pricing more

A COOL PLACE TO SEE AND BE SEEN 2/22/2005

I HAD A WONDERFUL DINNER AT NOBU'S. AFTER MAKING RESERVATIONS WEEKS IN ADVANCE THROUGH NO FAULT OF THE RESTURANT I WAS UNABLE TO APPEAR AT MY APPOINTED TIME. AFTER CALLING THE RESTURANT THEY SAID THEY COULD SEAT ME AN HOUR LATER WHICH WAS PERFECT. THE WAITER MADE SUGGESTIONS AS TO HOW TO INTERPRET THE MENU BY TASTE AND DISH SIZE. A MIX OF HOT AND COLD DISHES WERE SUGGESTED. THE COUPLE SEATED NEXT TO US WAS FRIENDLY AND TOLD US ABOUT THEIR CHOICES. INTERESTING INGREDIENTS CONSTURTED IN AN UNUAL MANNER. I'D GO BACK TOMORROW Pros: ACCOMADATION, KNOWLEDGABLE WAIT STA, COOL/TRENDY ATMOSPHER Cons: A LITTLE NOISEY more

delicious 8/22/2004

My friends and I were absolutely thrilled by our experience here. The food was incredible, the service was very helpful, and the place had a really cool look. No, it's not an intimate romantic restaurant, but it is cool and fun. Don't just go for sushi, which is perhaps a tad expensive although excellent, but absolutely try the more interesting hot and cold dishes and tempura. Pros: food, look, service more

Nobu Rocks the Hard Rock!! 6/8/2004

I'm a regular when it comes to sushi; 3-4 nights a week I have sushi for dinner and frequent lunches. Nobu isn't the place to go on a daily basis, but I eat there as often as possible! I'm a Vegas local, so I'm lucky to be close. I went to the Nobu in New York and the ambiance and food is just as great! The sushi is excellent, but isn't even the focus of the meal. The hot and cold dishes from the kitchen are unbelievable. The toro toban-yaki, cod on lettuce, and jalapeno yellowtail are a few of my favorites! Nobu has the best dessert I've ever had at a sushi restaurant too. Coupled with flavored saki (my favorite is the concord grape or strawberry) you will have a meal that you will never forget. Don't forget to make a reservation, especially if you want a table. more

Great Food, horrid clientelle 12/6/2003

I'm Japanese (not Japanese American), and I can tell you that sushi here is GOOD. However, I can get a sushi like that in Tokyo for 1/2 the price, but I'd have to look REALLY hard to find a good sushi like that in this country. I don't agree with the claims of some reviewers that sushi here is mediocre...I had the $55 sushi special and it was fabulous. I was quite impressed with non-sushi food as well, and felt that those were more reasonable pricewise. Ambiance would be nicer if it weren't for the clientelle. You have typical Hard Rock crowd hanging out here...drunk, loud, obnoxious, and pretentious. I loved the food, but I'm gonna keep looking for a sushi joint with better value. Pros: Food, ambiance potential Cons: Clientelle, Expense more

Not for everyone 10/21/2003

I have read many of the reviews on CitySearch and I find that the people who are not satisfied with Nobu are there for the wrong reasons. If you are looking for a quiet intimate dinner you may want to rethink Nobu afterall it is inside the Hard Rock. Secondly if you are there only for the sushi you are missing out on wonderful and unique sushi style dishes, their tasting menu and several great options from the hot kitchen. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and intends to try and educate people as to what they might be missing. Don't get me wrong, if you want to go to Nobu for sushi it is still a great idea. I have yet to be disappointed with the quality or service. They have always done a great job in my eyes. Pros: quality, service, atmosphere Cons: atmosphere, expensive more

not quite amazing 8/21/2003

Slightly pushy service (they ask you in about one breath whether you would like flat or sparkling, no chance to ask for plain, i.e. ""free"" water). The peruvian influence saves this place, as the hot plate we ordered was delish as was the cold ceviche. The sushi however, was mediocre, we tried the spicy tuna roll and there was nothing spicy or interesting about it. The house roll was alright, but nothing so spectacular as to remember what was in it. The drinks (mostly variations of martinis) are way too overpriced. Will probably explore other sushi places on my next visit to Vegas... Pros: decor, peruvian influence Cons: overpriced, servers are pushy more

Think I'm turning Japanese!! 6/30/2003

Absolutely, the best in Japanese cuisine. I firmly suggest that any new patron try the chef selection, which is composed of several sample plates, which are delectable. Also, the cold Sake in the bamboo shot glasses also superb. Definitely the best cuts of fish and meat go into every dish. How do I know? Because you can taste the difference! I must also give props to the table service, both times I have been there the waiter knew everything there was to know about each specific dish and their recommendations of what sake went with what food was right on the money! Pros: Ambiance, Service more

Wow! 3/4/2003

Just spent a weekend in Vegas, and Nobu was the hands down highlight for everyone that went. Three of us couldn't decide on what we wanted to order so we asked one of the busboys what he thought the best items were. His picks did not dissappoint! Go with the Hot and Cold specials and trust the staff's advice. Everything suggested was incredible. Pros: Great sashimi, Hot crowd Cons: Pricey, but worth it more

Cool off in the desert 9/24/2002

Nobu is the coolest, best sushi house in Vegas. Make your way through the hotties at the Hard Rock, and find the best sushi bar in town. Always great looking people, and the fish is the best! The bad reviews I see here all have one thing in common, NOT sitting at the sushi bar. Sit at the bar, not at a table! Let the sushi men do their magic, and you will eat the best sushi of your life. This is ""new"" sushi, so if you want a Teriyaki chicken and California roll, try the buffet at Bally's! Pros: creative chefs, fresh fish, many new styles Cons: eating at a table more

IF YOU HAVE TASTE, STAY AWAY!!!!!!! 9/9/2002

THIS HAS TO BE THE ABSOLUTE WORST RESTAURANT IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!! EVERYTHING BADLY IMAGINABLE IS HERE. IF YOU WANT THE MOST MEDIOCRE SUSHI FOR A RIDICULOUS PRICE, GO TO NOBU (LAS VEGAS). IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED W/ DISRESPECT, DO TO NOBU. IF YOU WANT YOUR HOT PLATE TO BE COLD ON ARRIVAL, GO TO NOBU. IF YOU WANT YOUR FOOD TO ARRIVE 30 - 45 MIN. AFTER ORDERING (AND COLD), GO TO NOBU. IF YOU WANT A MANGER TO LAUGH AT YOUR COMPLAINTS, DO TO NOBU. IF YOU WANT YOUR $14 MARTINI MADE W/ SMIRNOFF, GO TO NOBU. IF YOU WANT YOUR TABLE BY THE KITCHEN, GO TO NOBU. IF YOU WANT BLAND FISH, DO TO NOBU. IF YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PALATE, GO TO NOBU. OTHER THAN ALL THIS, IT WAS GREAT. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I DIDN'T BOTHER W/ DESSERT. more

Top Sushi in Vegas! 8/25/2002

Honestly, one of the best Sushi restaurants I have ever been to! I'm from the northwest, and fresh sushi is a given here, but to find that kind of fresh in Vegas, was unexpected! The food was incredible...I went with 4 of my girlfriends, of which 2 had never had sushi in their lives, and all of us would go back in a heartbeat! We let the waiter choose our menu for us, and were suprised with one incredible dish, after another!!! You must check it out, if you are in the Vegas area and love great sushi! Pros: Fantastic Food!, Incredibly fresh more

Good - not great 7/24/2002

I think I over expected. Nobu in NYC is over-the-top. Nobu Las vegas is good solid sushi... guess what?... so is the sushi served at the little sushi joint inside the Luxor, and less expensive. Nobu absolutely has the ""over-all experiance"" contest won, hands down. It's a cool space, great to be able to break away from the excitment of the Hard Rock for some delish sushi in a cool spot. BUT, for no frills, and less expensive and DEFENITELY less of a ""need-to-be-seen"" crowd... try that little sushi joint in the Luxor... and by-the-by have the saki even if it is in the AM... it's delish! Otherwise enjoy Nobu it was very enjoyable, solid sushi. Pros: sushi, space, crowd Cons: expensive, hyped more
