Excellent food for the price. The curry soup shines, as does the risotto. Comfortable, trendy decor. Great date place. I've only been here twic...

The service is barely passable, you can't get a table without a reservation in under 2 weeks - and just try to speak with a live person - let alone get a reservation...you will be...

Some great dishes 8/17/2006

Dined there for the first time this week. We ordered 6 items and loved 4 of them. The special gnocchi starter was absolute heaven with shaved truffles. The seared scallops were done perfectly with a crispy but not burned crust. The duck breast was bland despite being served with a delicious sounding sauce. The desserts were scrumptous! The raspberry souffle was bursting with fresh raspberry flavor although a tad small. Pros: some great dishes, not noisy, friendly hostess & servers Cons: rushed service more

myth: reality or myth? 7/16/2006

There has been alot of talk amongst those who dine that Myth will be the ultimate place to go on a regular basis ( more than 1-2x a week) because of the beautiful atmosphere, the relatively affordable prices, the impressive chef/owner, the semi-secretive tourist repellant location and the relaxed dress code. I really, really like Myth. But there is an attitude that permeates the perfectly executed deliberately darkened air here that is almost as uncomfortable as the hard wood seating. To the reviewer that mentioned the rude waiter with the French accent, you are sooooo right!!! I almost fainted when our waiter approached our table asking us if we wanted bottled mineralwater or plain in a very obvious French accent. The one and the same! The waiter from Hell! I had read the review so I was well prepared. Another gripe is the lava lamp/ mood ring mentality that announces that you have purchased the bottled mineral water by placing a lighted coaster under the bottle. What is with this!?! But to the Foodies, I must admit the food here was very, very good. The oysters were fantastic. The steak brilliant. The wine list admirable. I certainly would go back again but perhaps not on a regular basis, not until the waiter from hell pushes his lighted mineral water elsewhere. Pros: food, ambiance, price Cons: some of the waiters can have a bad attitude more

Great ambiance, service and food 7/10/2006

Was lucky to get reservations same night which I understand is unheard of, but there was a cancellation... showed up at 7:30 for my 9:30 reservation and we got seated around 8ish and the hostess was very helpful. Great recommendations from the bar and our waiter as to which small plates and entrees my date and I should order... Overall it was a great experience and I will go again, making sure that I make reservations ahead of time. Pros: Great service and great food Cons: Can be tough getting a reservation more

Great Food and Service 7/5/2006

My wife and I had the opportunity to dine at Myth on a Thursday night. From the moment we walked in the door we knew we were in for a treat. Our table in the corner gave us a view of the beautiful space and a great people watching vantage point. Our waiter Jonathan was amazingly helpful. When asked he made some wonderful suggestions and as the evening progressed and he understood our tastes he was able to guide us enhancing the night. Some of my favorite dishes were: Pros: Food Cons: Hard to get a reservation more

A self-important, over-hyped restaurant 6/6/2006

The service is barely passable, you can't get a table without a reservation in under 2 weeks - and just try to speak with a live person - let alone get a reservation...you will be put into constant voice-mail black-hole - never to be returned. I predict when people try this over-hyped, mediocre place it will die a slow death. With poor service, arrogant and self-important management and boring food - most will decide as I did that there are many, many restaurants in SF more worthy of frequenting than this one. Pros: Nice decor Cons: Poor service, mediocre food, arrogant hostess/ management more

Great New Restaurant 5/5/2006

Surprised by the helpful and freindly service, plus great food. I'll go back often. more

Great Experience 4/16/2006

I took a friend visiting from out of town here for dinner. We had an amazing experience. The food and service were wonderful! Pros: decor, ambiance Cons: dessert menu more

French-California Cuisine - Third-World Service 3/22/2006

My apologies to the third world. I've never experienced such deplorable service there. Our rude waiter must have been deported from France for his decidedly un-Gallic sense of service. Getting information about dishes and their preparations was like asking Donald Rumsfeld how the Iraqi War is going. I brought two bottles of aged California red wine which our waiter sloshed into our glasses. Predictably, I ended up with a gritty last swallow. Our cheese courses were plopped down with no explanation of what was what on the platters. By the way, the bus service was on a par with that of the waiter featuring reaching over diners to serve and get plates and overfilling water glasses to the point the table cloth was doing double duty as a sponge. Fortunately for the waiter, we were a party of six, so our so our waiter got the mandatory, if unearned, tip. Pros: Good good, Reasonably priced, Nice ambience Cons: Service, Service, The lack thereof. more

Good food, great atmosphere 2/7/2006

My husband wanted me to take him to this restaurant for his birthday...last April. I hesitated after reading all the reviews about the awful service, but I finally booked a 6:30p reservation on a Saturday night. The hostess was very friendly, & promptly took us to our booth. The decor was calming, with enough lighting to easily read the menu, but dim enough to create a serene, private feel. All the staff were friendly. We ordered sweet bread salad, pear salad, lamb chops, butterfish, spiced apple souffle and sorbets. All of the dishes were tasty, good sized portions. The prices were reasonable for the quality of food. Best of all, we came in jeans & t-shirts. I felt compelled to share my experience so other people who have read all those negative reviews like I did would give this place a try. Pros: friendly service, tasty dishes, good value more

Above the Unexpected 1/6/2006

When I read that Myth was in the top 10 restaurant last week in the San Francisco Chronicle Magazine I had to go. The Chef has a great talent!! he serves a very interesting combination with the oysters, he serves them with tobiko so you feel that they are popin in your mouth. After the first course I had the garganelli pasta, it is served with foie gras cream, it melts in your mouth. My main cource was the pork tenderloin with pork belly, perfectly seasoned and well executed. The food and the service are nice, and the dining room is gorgeous. I can say I have throroughly enjoyed the overall dining experience at Myth. Pros: Valet Parking, Inexpensive Cons: Getting a Resevation more

Airport Food in a Cold Environment 1/6/2006

Lacking any sensuality whatsoever, the cuisine resembled cooking school disasters: undistinguished appetizers, inedibly oversalted pizza, burnt and dry, an impossibly overly-salted pork entree wallowing in an overly-sweet pomegranate sauce with no tastes of reduction blending or tous ensemble, a disgusting dessert you could buy at Safeway...where was the miracle Chef? Over-hyped, Unfortunate and Disappointing to the Max. Very sorry to have wasted my time and money. Was the Chef gone and underlings trying to recreate the recipes? One of the biggest, over-rated flops I've been to recently. If you're going to open a big, expensive restaurant, get the food together. Cons: Amateur Cooking, Overhyped more

Fabulous! 12/20/2005

Great food. Great service. Great ambiance! One of the best restaurants in the city.... for sure. Save this one for a special occasion. You'll love it. more

Reserved the private dining room for a special occassion with a large group of friends. The atmosphere, the food, wine recommendation, service, etc. were all great. Beautiful space, delicious food, superb service, great wine selection. Not much more you can ask for... Pros: Food, Decor, Wine more

Great food!! 11/30/2005

I went to Myth recently as was warmly greeted by the hostess. I'd been waiting for weeks to try out this new hot spot and finally did a few weeks ago. Everything was wonderful, but the skate wing i ordered seemed a lttle over the top. Otherwise it was a wonderful experience. more

Never got to eat 11/13/2005

We had a very disappointing experience at Myth; or more accurately, we never got to experience dining at Myth. We showed up for our 9 p.m. reservation (which had been made 1 month in advance and confirmed the day prior) a few minutes early and were told they were just finishing up dessert at our table and it would be a few minutes. We were told that reservations were backed up due to a Cal game that had run late and traffic on the bridge that had parties arriving 45 minutes. After waiting for an hour and fifteen minutes and hearing repeatedly that our table would be ready in 5 to 10 minutes, we finally left disappointed and hungry in search of a restaurant where we could get served. more

Besides being beautifully designed, I didnt find much to entice me to return. I was especially turned off by the wines that they had available by the glass. The menu also wasnt particularly interesting. I had the sea bass, which was average and the pumpkin soup, which was tasty. I thought the portions were small, especially the soup. Pros: Design Cons: wines by the glass more

Service 101, anyone ? 10/14/2005

Went to Myth last Tuesday expecting upscale casual wonders. While the design is indeed trendy and comfortable and the menu diverse and flavorful, I was shocked by the lack of detail-attention and overall rudeness of our French-Canadian waiter. What about prompt drink orders, proper silverware and understandable description of the food ? But what spurs me to write, and dare generalize about the poor level of service at Myth, is the utter lack of class of another slovenly server who, upon our exiting the restaurant, prowled behind us in his post-service street clothes and asked us for une cigarette before admonishing us for not having any. Mon ami, this is california, not the slums of Saint-Denis ! It is deplorable that with so many excellent waiters in town, mediocre Belden Street types should spoil an otherwise elegant evening out. more

delicious! 9/25/2005

My is one of my favorite newer restaurants in san francisco. The food is consistently well done, and the service impeccable. I highly recommend the steak with blue cheese butter and the citrus salmon. Pros: outstanding food Cons: can be crowded more

Another great new restaurant 9/8/2005

This restaurant is really nice. The wait staff as well as the owner were great. The food is pretty good and the value is even better. You can get half plates which is great for sharing. Wine list is good and the design of the restaurant is fabulous. A little on the noisy side but still good for those who are hearing impaired especially if you request a booth. If you have a large group need to get on the wait list for the head chef's room. Great for large parties. Pros: Value, Service, Ambience Cons: Parking more
