Gene Juarez - Downtown 5/11/2004

It would be alot easier for me to have a recommendation if my scheduled appointments were not cancelled by Gene Juarez. I scheduled appointments for myself and three other people. We each had two services. Unfortunately three of our services were cancelled on the day of our visit. Going one step further, nothing was done by the staff or management to accomodate us in any other way. For a leading spa I would think more would be done for a group of four w/eight services. I still haven't received a call from management with their apologies or anything to win our business back. more

I have a new addiction 4/3/2004

I somehow made an appointment to the South Center location instead of Downtown, so be careful when you book. I had a fruit infusion peel that was absolutely heavenly--I ended up buying three of the products used! I was running too late for the foot bath so I went directly in. I had personalized service and my face was cleansed, exfoliated, toned, masked, massaged, extracted, and lotioned. My hands, scalp, neck, and shoulders were taken care of too! I had a paraffin hand treatment and an aroma-thereapy massage on my neck and shoulders while one of the masks dried. Afterwards, I got my foot bath and tea and was too relaxed to even read a magazine. I would definitely recommend going first thing in the morning (like I did) or on a weekday to avoid crowds. There was only one changing room, one toilet in the lockerroom. Pros: peaceful environment, personalized service more

try the spa 2/21/2004

i admit the salon side of GJ is a bit hyped up, but take a step into the spa & hopefully your mind will change. granted on a weekend, it can be as busy as in the salon, but all measures are taken to try to make your experience relaxing-w/fluffy robes, comfy sandals, stress relieving foot soaks, ambiatic mosaic fountains, steam &swiss showers-& those are just the added amenities included w/every service,& from there, it's all about what you make it.you will not find more comfortable massage tables than at GJ, w/feather down mattress covers & feather duvets! & a trip to the 14 head vichy showers (WOW!)for an aromatic body scrub, etc, is an experience you will never forget! i've already told my kids that all i want for mothers day or any holiday for that matter, is a certificate for this spa. & so, try the spa-you shouldn't be disappointed. Pros: added amenities, plush massage tables, 14 head rain bar Cons: , slightly expensive more

Good Hair Cut 9/6/2003

I am new to the area and asked a relative where she gets her hair cut (here hair always looks great). She recommended her stylist at the Redmond Gene Juarez salon. I was checked in promptly and was asked if I wanted anything to drink. I didn't have to wait long for the stylist. She was very friendly and did a very good job. She changed my style a bit, and it looks great. She also didn't try to push me to buy salon products (which so many places do). I am overall very satisfied. more

It's My FAV!! 1/29/2003

Now living in Scottsdale, Arizona I figured I would find a salon that exceeded Gene Juarez but I am sad to report nobody here does my nails the way Gene Juarez (and charge the same if not more!) Nobody does my hair the way my stylist in Seattle does. I have not had a massage or pedicure since my recent arrival so I cannot report on those services but overall, Gene Juarez is tops! more

Friendly service, and tasty tea too! 1/9/2003

On the spur of the moment, I decided to get a haircut at the downtown salon. I made an appointment about 2 hours on advance. I arrived early, was treated well by the desk folk, enjoyed some tea. My stylist, Sherri, was friendly, professional, and skilled. I explained what I was looking for, she made a few suggestions, and we quickly settled on a style. She is very good at working with curly hair, BONUS! I was very pleased with the results. The price is pretty extravagent at $65, but I did walk out feeling very satisfied with the over-all experience. Pros: skilled stylist, convenient location, good with curly hair Cons: exorbitant price, noisy salon more

Superb Facial at GJ Seattle 1/8/2003

My darling husband gave me a gift certificate to GJ for Christmas. I got an appt. in Seattle relatively quickly with Saida. After my relaxing shower, and once wrapped in the warmth of her luscious blankets, I relayed some negative remarks from friends about facials there and was very upfront about what I wanted. I'm sure her service would have been outstanding regardless. I didn't expect my facial to include everything I got - glorious hand parrafin treatment, neck, back, chest, shoulder, ear, and face massage with lots of attention paid to pressure points. She also rubbed and smoothed tons of yummy concoctions over my face, neck, chest, arms, legs and feet. The painless extractions removed all my blackheads and after applying my makeup, I left there feeling like a million bucks. She spent about 1 1/2 hours with me and the fee was $75. Pros: excellent service, worth the money, relaxing atmosphere more

VERY HAPPY 11/20/2002

I've gone to the southcenter Gene Juarez on three seperate occasions all with different stylist, and all my haircuts have been great. The most recent one I had was the best yet. It is a bit expensive but its worth it to have such great looking hair every time I go. more

Wonderfully decadent 11/20/2002

After reading all the bad reviews I was dreading going to Gene Juarez. I was happily surprised by the professional service, friendly staff and great treatments. I had a great, relaxing 2 hours being pampered like a princess! more

lusterous tin 11/19/2002

It looks all glitzy, the staff is all dressed up, but the interaction with the staff lacks warmth and friendliness. I go back only because I can schedule an appt fairly quickly and it's an ok cut. more

All right... 11/15/2002

Wasn't really impressed with the service I got for the amount that I paid. However, the staff was relatively friendly. more

No haircut = Time Wasted 11/15/2002

I went a few months ago, I called ahead and made an appointment. I arrived on time, turns out they forgot I had an appointment and after waiting 10 minutes too long I asked what was up. Oh, there was a mix up, just sit tight and wait 5 mins. 30 minutes later I left. I would never go back to this location after having an hour of my time WASTED. Why do they have so many employees and seem to get so little done? Cons: poor service, bad scheduling more

ELAINA ROCKS 11/14/2002

If you want a good colorist, see ELAINA at the Seattle salon. I'd had one nightmare after another with color/foils and finally decided to grow my hair out for a while. Elaina convinced me to go with the new balayage method of highlighting... and it is BEAUTIFUL. My hair has never looked prettier. Colorists at Gene Juarez are hit or miss. Some are simply TERRIBLE- but Elaina isn't. A total PRO. more

Updos were good 11/2/2002

It depends on the stylist, but 3 of us went for updos, and 2 of us were happy the other not. It was rather loud and crazy around the front desk area and the hair area. more

Can Be Good 10/31/2002

Gene Juarez is a luxury. It just all depends on your stylist or technician. more

good but rude check-in 10/30/2002

Call ahead to see if they're on time. Remember who you give your credit card number to...they forget to enter in the system when scheduling a massage, then you get scolded by the check-in/out person! It is also good to call ahead, especially, if you are coming in with friends / family to get a massage. In one situation asked for there to be an hour between massages to hand baby off while others were being massage and since they were behind...they were even more behind because baby couldn't be in spa area. There needs to be a more quiet area for massages. You can hear what is going on next door to you. Pros: relaxing, refreshments Cons: rude check-in, pay to park, not sound proof more

Say What? 10/29/2002

Knowing their reputation for being hip, stylish, bascially THE place to go for a good haircut, etc. I called the Redmond salon. When I was asked who I wanted to book a haircut appointment with, I said I had never been in before so I didn't know any of the stylist. The very young-sounding appintment maker then asked me, "WELL, HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT TO PAY? I was momentarily stunned by the bad taste. Then I was overcome with a deisre to say something snotty like, "oh..$7.50". I reined in my disgust and said $40. I was given an appointment. Long story short, I went to this person about three times and quit. She was adequate but everything about the salon and staff smacked of "how much do you want to pay?". Tacky, tacky, tacky. Pros: good parking, on-time appointments Cons: assembly-line feel, impersonal more

Bellevue Gene Juarez Spa 10/25/2002

After 4 1/2 hours of pampering - foot soak, full body massage, complete facial, pedicure AND manicure having to get in my car a drive myself back to Seattle required a herculian effort! I will do it again without thinking twice the next time I have an extra couple of hundred dollars laying around. Pros: Very relaxing, Quality of products, Service providers Cons: driving home more

A Bad Perm 10/20/2002

I wanted a perm, and scheduled one with Gene Juarez. My natural hair color is ash brown, but for the past year, I had colored it to make it light blonde. I wanted a perm, and asked the technician about it before my appt since it was bleached. She said it would be okay, but that I'd need a trim. The technician left the solution on my head for over 20 minutes. She even checked it and waited longer. When she finished, my hair was fried. I began to cry, and she said to me, "Oh, but that's what you get for coloring your hair!" No apology or offer to fix it or compensate me. I had to have most of it cut off, and it's now too short, doesn't have style, and it's still half fried. Cons: Inexperienced, Poor Customer Service more

good but atmosphere lacked 10/16/2002

This is a reasonable place to go if you are looking for a more "corporate" spa environment. Not very personable, but the service is good. more

  • In Short
The front desk and the urban, brighly lit salon have a fitting air of sophisticated chaos. However, there's a quick escape: the tranquil, feng shui-adapted waiting room. There, after changing into spa clothes and a luxurious robe, spa-goers are treated to an aromatic foot soak by the spa hostess. Services include the standards--facials, body-wraps, manicures, massages, mud masques--and more.
