Always the best Hair Cuts In The Country 1/4/2012

I've been going to Gene Juarez for 20 years. Have used the Southcenter and Downtown salons with excellent, consistent results every time. You need to communicate with your stylist, of course. I've lived in other parts of the country and can never find a good salon and always miss Juarez salons. For my money, this is the place to go. more

Time to switch salons 8/12/2011

I've been going to Gene Juarez for a long time and have had good cuts and color. However, I have gradually become unsatisfied - customer service at the front desk is terrible, a stylist kept me waiting for 45 minutes (not my usual person), but even the usual people I have been going to see less than focused on my visit. The straw that broke the camel's back was spending a lot of money on a keratin treatment and the person who did it neglected to tell me to use a special sulfate free shampoo and so the results are not as good as had been expected, and I don't feel that my concerns were adequately adressed. So, I'm going to try another salon and see how it goes. more

Wouldn't trust anyone else in the city 6/25/2010

Let's get personal here- if you have a bad meal at a restaurant, its a few hours out of your life. If you have a bad haircut, or even worse, a bad Brazilian, it can leave you looking bad and/or in pain for months. This is why salon choice is so important. My stylist, Raina, at Gene Juarez is brilliant. When she styles my hair, all I have to say is "cover of Cosmopolitan hair" and she knows exactly what to do. She's so friendly and sweet- the ideal person you'd want to chat with while you're getting your haircut. Now let's move on to the Brazilian. This is never a completely painless process and I've had experience at several other comparable salons. Although Gene Juarez's is the most expensive Brazilian I know of in the city, it's also the most painless. The technician is quick and efficient and SUPER nice even when you're being a baby. Plus have a shot of Vodka at Von's downstairs, pop an advil and you're good to go! Plus you'll feel sexier just walking around. Totally worth the $$$ every couple months or so. Pros: hair cut, brazilian wax Cons: Pricey brazilian more

This is no Nordstrom, REI or Costco for customer service 6/6/2010

Many companies promise to fully stand behind their products, and in my own experience some actually do: within retail, Nordstrom, REI and Costco come to mind. In my own experience, Gene Juarez Hair Salons does NOT. I purchased a number of their Nioxin products - products which over extended use are supposed to enhance the health of the scalp and hair - with the salon's assurances that they stood behind these products. If I were ultimately dissatisfied, I could return them. Since they expected the effects to take longer than their normal 90 day return period, they waived this limitation. Then, when results seemed meager or non-existent, I did bring them back. And suddenly the staff had numerous objections to accepting them for return, including: it was longer than 90 days since my purchase (despite their having waived this), the product containers weren't nearly full (as if I should understand how well they improved my scalp and hair health in just a couple of trials, rather than the many months they had previously suggested). And on top of it, Colleen in their corporate office was patronizing about the entire issue. Had I known any of this at the start, I would never have taken the risk to buy any of these products from them. In the future, I intend to never buy anything from Gene Juarez Salons. And I recommend you don't either. Pros: Nice promises to stand behind products Cons: They don't more

I love GJ! 11/15/2009

so..i went to GJ for my facial. I used to get my facial done at Northgate Seattle with Leslie (she is awesome!) but currently im not in north seattle anymore because I move to kirkland area, so I went to downtown seattle which is nearer and booked Shaida for my facial! it was lovellllyy!!! she knows my skin very well!!! I love shaida! she is amazing!!! :) and oh I got my brow waxing with her too... I love my brow!!! and I got my brow waxing with Maria at GJ downtown too! these girls are awesome! I had my haircut from JAmes Dean and balayage my hair from DEVON .. and only one thing can I say about them.. AWESOME! thanks guys for giving me the best hair cut and balayage ever !!!! more

WORST BLONDE BALAYAGE - ORANGE AND FRIED HAIR 9/26/2009

How unfortunate for me to find the Gene Juarez Salon. While it is modeled after "Frederic Fekkai" Salons, it is just a "wannabe", inexperienced version of it. The Balayage Colorists are the worst. They are totally faking it....with all the right words....but cannot deliver. They each have the same story...you can hear them tell every single client, "Don't expect to see great results for a few months". You can go for a year and never see great results....simply because they are not capable of pulling it off. After being ruined with orange hair, by their Color Director/Instructor, Tony Kim, their Customer Service Director invited me to come back so that their "Top Colorist" Alania, could fix it. I met with her and their Top Hair Designer to review photos, and consult on what had to be done. She seemed to understand. Alania created Another TOTAL HAIR DISASTER....this time my hair was WHITE, WHITE, WHITE....as in "Bride of Frankenstein". I was Shocked, the Director Designer was Shocked, but Alania just didn't get it...."What Problem?" Back to the bleach for another "fix". The final result was awful, but by this time my hair was fried and broken. IT WILL TAKE MONTHS FOR MY HAIR TEXTURE AND COLOR TO RECOVER FROM THESE IRRESPONSIBLE MISTAKES. If you are looking for beautiful blond, "RUN, DON'T WALK FROM THIS SALON". TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE OTHER REVIEWS...THERE DEFINITELY IS A PATTERN HERE. Pros: VERY INEXPERIENCED COLORISTS Cons: THE COLORISTS ARE FAKING IT....RUN, FROM THIS SALON more

I asked someone on the stree who cut there hair, and did' go 8/19/2009

The Salon looks nice and dressed up, and eveyone is in black like hairdressers. I gace the girl my vision. I spoke slowly, and wasn't sure if she goy what i was saying. I should have left. that was my intution. Anyway it was un even, which I don't mind if that is what I wanted, but it was no where near the caliber of what i wanted. I think this used to actually be a good place to get hair done, but it has really slipped. more

Don't ever train at their Advanced Training Salon!! 7/23/2009

When you learn at their Advanced Training Salon, they make it sound like you are sooo priveleged. The propaganda they feed you as to how great it will be once you start working for them is outrages!! I know, I've been there!! I also have made friends with others at various GJ's and they feel the same way. They are sooooo sorry that they fell for it and are stuck in their bogus contract. Gene Juarez doesn't even own it anymore! And the various salon management is mostly young inexperienced grunts just begging for a title. Pros: NONE Cons: The Contract they force you to sign more

Love 'em! 2/10/2009

I've been going to Gene Juarez for about 9 years and I've had pretty much every kind of service they offer. I usually get Cuts & Facials but I've done nails, massages, color, make-up and body treatments. My favorite location is the Downtown Salon. A lot of the hottest new people and the best experienced people work at there because it is the flagship location. Which is not to say that other locations don't have amazing people but I love downtown. I have turned into a GJ snob for haircuts. I won't get my hair cut any where else. I have tried other places both here in Seattle (and in other states - AZ & HI) and no other cutting style is better (in my opinion) - a combo of French & British styles so it's not to harsh or soft but a nice place in the middle. I actually used to work for them so I may be a little biased but I see it as being similar to someone who has worked in restaurants having an opinion about a restaurant they worked at. Lance at downtown is amazing at color. He took my black hair and turned me blonde! It took nearly six months but he got it there and my hair wasn't damaged - it was still soft and it wasn't brassy. He is amazing and I highly recommend him. He is very honest about what your hair will & won't do and how long it will take to get you there. I wanted blonde like Gwen Stefani but that wasn't possible without a lot of damage so I became blonde like Nicole Richie. I see a bunch of different people for cuts downtown since I pretty trust them all to do a good job. Ian & Emily are the two I see most often for cuts - I used to see Michelle but she's gone :o( I've had to wait for people running late but I don't get frustrated because they are usually running late because the person that was before me was let getting to their appointment! Pros: Great people - highly skilled Cons: Prices more

Serious unprofessionalism!!!! 11/11/2008

I had been told that Gene Juarez was the place to go for the best highlights by co-workers. I believe Sherry was the colorist?s name. First off told me that I ?did not book the appointment right? She treated me as if I threw off her whole day cause I should have booked a color and highlight vs. just a highlight. She told me it would be more money and time. It made me a bit nervous but I trusted her judgment. The color tingled and burned on my scalp! This is something I?ve never experienced! After my shampoo she handed me off to the girl who was to cut my hair. Sherry was gone and could not see her end result of my color. It was a flat color. I paid for extra for her to highlight the exact same color she colored it. Not to mention the color ended up being brassy yellow instead of blonde. I asked the hair cut gal to see if she could find her so I could express my concerns with her rather than complain. I hate complaining. I t makes me embarrassed. The hair cut gal said she went to lunch. She expressed to me that it was unusual for that to happen without Sherry checking on my color first. I left really unhappy. I paid $205 plus tip only to go back to Arizona for my original hair dresser to fix Sherry?s color mishap. My Az girl said Sherry didn?t leave the color on long enough to process. Maybe cause of the time crunch. It cost me an additional $70 from what I normally pay the Az girl just for her to fix my hair. A few months later I got served court documents to my soon-to-be-ex husband?s house saying that the check I wrote to Gene Juarez bounced. I was not aware of this since my ex is in control of this account now. My name isn?t even on the account anymore. No one ever called me or sent me anything! Would have rec?d something from mail forwarding if they had! So the worst hair experienced is now costing my 2xs the amount plus attorney fees!!! I will never have anything nice to say about Gene Juarez?EVER! Cons: My hair was 80's brassy yellow!!! more

Terrible service, mediocre hair cut 9/22/2008

I was new to the area last year, and a co-worker recommended Gene Juarez, telling me it was the best salon in Seattle. I was very disappointed to say the least. I even gave the place several chances, against my better judgment, and they got worse each time. The first time, I showed up for my appointment and they told me to come back in about 45 minutes because the girl was running late. This was inexcusable, but I came back anyway, then waited for another 45 minutes before finally called me back. I have curly hair, and explained to the girl that I did not want my layers cut too blunt, and that I would like multi-directional layering to make sure this doesn't happen. She completely ignored my suggestion and, surprise!, I ended up with blunt layers that made me look like a sheepdog. The next time I went, I had a color consultation and got my hair cut. I had a different girl, but same BORING, terrible haircut. I made an appointment to have all-over color and balayage done, which is not cheap. It was right before Christmas, and I wanted it done for the holidays. Half an hour before my appointment, they called and canceled, and the only so solution they could come up with was for me to drive to Bellevue from Lakewood and get just the all-over color because they didn't have time for the highlights. I also had an appointment to get a cut that they canceled as well. In addition, the receptionists have a severe superiority complex. Not worth the money. I went to Seven and was completely happy - don't waste your money and time at GJ - go to Seven instead. Pros: None Cons: Mediocre hair cut, at best, never on time, condescending attitude more

Worst Treatment Ever 9/15/2008

Wow, where to start? I scheduled a facial here because I had heard nice things about them. Boy was I wrong. The esthetician seemed right out of school, with no experience, she was very awkward too. Telling me what she was using on me just "just so expensive". I had gone to The Spa at the Woodmark the month before and it just didn't compare, (at least the Spa at the Woodmark had great products like Jurlique and Skinceuticals, plus their esteticians are truely talented.) At GJ the room was freezing, she the products smelled expired. Awful. Reception was rude, I had to wait forever before my treatment. Hard to believe I paid money for it. I'll stick with The Spa at the Woodmark! Pros: None Cons: Too many to list more

Spa Party-World Class Service! 9/2/2008

WOW! Our company booked a "Spa Party" with Matt, their Group and Corporate sales guy and our employees LOVED it! We had it catered with food, the services were awesome and he made up little goodie bags with products for all of our employees. Can't wait until next year! Pros: Very relaxing and fun team event. more

Consistently Fabulous! 8/3/2008

I've been going to Sugin (pronounced Soo-jin) for 4 or 5 years now. She does a great job with my color. She knows what works best with my coloring and I always get tons of compliments on my highlights. She's very professional and has a great personality. I always look forward to going in to see her! The stylist that I used to see for haircuts left, so I've been going to see James Dean. I've seen him twice now and so far I'm super happy with my cut. He gave me a sleek, modern cut that looks great, even weeks later. He's very thorough, competent and understands my style. The prices at GJ are a little on the high side, but I've tried a few other salons (including Halo and Salon Blast) and I think that the level of service that you get at GJ is worth every penny. They stand behind their work and will make it up if you're unhappy with your experience or the end results. Pros: Friendly, professional and courteous staff Cons: Downtown location not ideal unless you live in the city more

Going to school there... 7/26/2008

ok so i went to school at Gene Juarez. If your planning to go to school there...i wouldnt. If you can stand rude instructors who just graduated from beauty school and went straight into teaching without real on the job expierence. It is like MILITARY school but for hair. They charge you a ridiculous amount to go there and they treat you miserably the whole year. They kick you out if you have to take time off at all and they yell at you for taking breaks. I have no clue how i made it through the school. It was an emotional roller coaster being treated like that. And they have such attitudes especially for people such as myself who are slower learners. They sent me home for wearing a skirt with leggings saying it was too short and the girl next to me was wearing the same exact one and they said your bodies are different and it looks different on me....why because she was skinny???? I was always being made fun of and brought down they brought my confidence to an all time low. And they gave me a check one time and then 4 months later asked for it back saying they accidently gave it to me and i had to pay it back. So be warned the finantial department doesnt know anything about your loan situations. I know some girls who were kicked out of advanced training for the most RIDICULOUS reasons. They want you to be a robot no feelings or emotions all wearing black and skinny and pretty and not all girls can fit the mold. Sylists are artist and should be able to express themselves as long as their professional. They told you how to wear your makeup and that you had to pick one style to follow it during the year. They act like they are fashion editors or someone who is a style Icon. You get graded every month on your skills which is great but also on your appearance... i had to work a job and go to school 40 hours a week so sometimes i didnt have the time to look "gene juarez" they finally changed the program so people can work too... so convienent now. Pros: You learn amazing color , the product lines Cons: too many i could never fit them all on here more

Try the Academy! 7/20/2008

I am a student at the Gene Juarez Academy South Campus, and I am extremely disappointed with the reviews I've been reading about all of the Gene Juarez Salons. At the Academy our instructors work very hard to make sure we are treating our guests with the best possible customer service skills we can. Come into the Academy in Federal Way, its less expensive, but takes a little bit longer. My name is Miranda, and I am there on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and I would love to do your hair! Call and make an appointment today (253)839-4000 with Miranda :] more

Major attitude - bad service 5/22/2008

My husband bought me a spa day gift certificate for my birthday. I had to call a special number to book the reservation, and the girl on the phone told me what time to show up and said there would be one 20 minute delay beween services, no big deal right...? Well, I was there for 6 hours and only got four services! They booked an hour and a half to shower off between a massage and facial! I sat around the spa for most of the day...when I asked when my next appointment was they were rude and told me to just be patient. My facialist tried to sell me a bunch of antiaging product (I am only 26 with oily skin) and when I said I wasn't interested, she told me that I was going to look 40 without them and then implied that I must be poor!!! Not only did I waste all day for overpriced, sub-par services, I was also insulted! Pros: Nice atmospehere Cons: service, prices, scheduling more

Best hair care in Seattle 5/1/2008

My first message. I called the GJ Academy for an hair cut appt. Got in fairly soon. It was a Saturday so parking was easy. I got there a little early, and at the time of my appt. I was told they were running a little behind and they asked if I wanted to wait. I said I didn't mind. A student hairdresser came to me about 5 minutes later and introduced herself, then asked if I wanted something to drink. I said coffee would be fine. The coffee was great. My hair was really long, I asked her to cut at least 4 inches and when she showed me how that would look it looked like it was too much so she cut about 2-3 inches off. Her instructor came over and checked things out and helped with suggestions. I got a great hair cut and will return again. Less than a week later I had a spa pedicure, would recommend to everyone. Service was excellent. Thanks Gene Juarez students! Victoria P. more

Worst Facial Ever 4/22/2008

I usually go to the Gene Juarez at Northgate Mall because it is closer and parking isn't such a hassle as it is downtown. I got the usual "Bionutrient facial" but they changed the name because they changed product lines. The lady was rude and in a hurry the whole time not to mention I left with superficial abrasions beside my eyes that lasted for almost two weeks!! They gave me my money back, but after the experience and embarrassment from what they did to my face, it was definitely NOT enough. I do NOT recommend going there. I have been to several Gene Juarez salons and I have bad experiences with certain Aestheticians but I go back choosing someone different; this time I have learned a lesson and will never go back not even for a haircut. more
