My wife and I used to eat here all the time, until they closed for Dinner. I hope they stick around. The food is really good. I'd recommend the rosemary herbed fries, the bistro burger w/ bacon & avocado, the roasted half chicken, and the breakfast corned beef hash. more

I had some time to kill on a Saturday morning and I stopped by for breakfast. I had their biscuits and gravy which was good and the service was very personal and attentive without being overbearing. more

I had no idea what to expect and was very pleasantly surprised. Our group ordered the sea salted waffles, the wild mushroom scramble with goat cheese, the eggs benedict, and the steak tartar. All of us enjoyed the absolutely delicious, rich food with no complaints. Staff was friendly and very attentive, bistro was crowded and had a great vibe. Prices are reasonable in my opinion. Yeah, the food was great. But it was what happened after dessert that left a bad taste in our mouths. We left two shopping bags under our table and didn't realize it until we arrived at the airport for our flight home. We called the Bistro and the manager or owner answered. He promised to send the bags back to us straightaway. Well, we're still waiting. We've called. Left messages. But to no avail. He's never responded. I have been to Everett Street Bistro many times while visiting Portland, always for breakfast. First, I love the staff! Always VERY cheerful and attentive. My favorite breakfast ? The Eggs Benedict. It comes with chunks of delicious bacon, wonderful hollandaise sauce, served on thick crispy french bread, rather than the usual boring English muffin. SO YUMMY! I will return again and again! My wife and I were wandering around the Pearl with our two small children tonight, and landed here. We found it a delightful little place with pleasant ambiance. The food was basic but imaginative. Somehow Citysearch has this placed categorized as ""fine dining"", which it is NOT but that's ok, it's not what we wanted. We had the scallops, a brandy chicken and the ""mac & cheese."" All were quite tasty, well-prepared, and priced below what we've paid for similar dishes in other nearby places. Service was crisp and professional. No complaints, nothing impressive. Still, if I could count on this level of service every time we go out, I would take it. It's true they are not really thinking about kids. No kids menu, no wait staff fawning over the kids, no crayons and fun placemats to draw on. But seriously, if you NEED that stuff to have a nice time out with the little ones, stick to the Old Spaghetti Factory. We thought this would be a fantastic place to bring out of town guests and have a family brunch. Were we ever wrong! The food was over priced, the bread could of chipped a tooth, and the host was rude enough to scold us for having a happy squealing (not crying) baby under the age of 1, and told us he would have to leave. Would we of moved to a table outside? Absolutely, we even suggested to him that we be outside before we were seated. This grumpy man made it clear that families with young children were not welcome at their overrated dive. The Pearl is full of fantastic small eateries that will continue to get our business. Was last here spring 08 and loved it. Finally had the time to come back since then looking for the same great meal I had with breakfast. Obviously the menu would change since then so I was looking forward to a new experience. I ordered the wild mushroom scramble with leeks. Well a few things. One when I got it, it was not hot but warm and the toast was cold and hard. The leeks in the scramble were hardly cooked and very tough to chew. They should be sauteed so they are tender and melt in your mouth. Not here. The goat cheese looked as if it was thrown in the last minute and not mixed scrambled through so I would have the flavor with every bite. I also asked for soft scrambled eggs and got eggs that were very dry, golden brown edges and came out more like an omelet. Someone need to teach this guy to cook eggs properly. I was looking forward to trying the hasbrown casserole, but upon looking at it they looked gray. I was thinking that they looked like yesterdays potatoes. Sure enough when I tried the first bite, they tasted like yesterdays potatoes that were reheated. You know that taste. Go back to the crispy fried red potatoes with herbs and garlic that I remember not getting enough of last time. And Lastly the most dissapointing part (yes if you can imagine) was they no longer serve sleep monk coffee. They switched to stump town. Not a fan at all of this mediocre coffee. When I informed the server of my plight, he told me that the old chef left and now the owner is acting chef. That explains it. Unfortunately I will not go back. This place had potential. I ate lunch at the Everett Street Bistro earlier this week for the first time. The menu looked tasty and had some, though not all, reasonably priced menu items. The staff seemed friendly and welcoming and my service was quite good. I ordered a scramble, happy that I could still have eggs even though it was lunch time. But while I waited for my food I watched the man behind the bar cough and hack all over everything he came into contact with. And as if that isn't bad enough, in the 45 minutes or so I was there, HE NEVER WASHED HIS HANDS! Needless to say, the huge appetite that I came in with had vanished. I kept a keen eye on the cooks and watched the employees that came into contact with my food. Luckily, my food managed to avoid the disease ridden mits of the walking health code violation working behind the bar. Others weren't so lucky however, as I watched this man poke and prod, sometime even TASTE food that was about to be sent out. I walked into Everett Street Bistro for brunch with my partner and was immediately struck by the sights. To my right were neat piles of artisan breads, pastries, cheeses, and local wine. Above me was an art deco punch-tin ceiling, and all around me was modernist decor. My lady and I wanted to have a nice lunch out on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated by a poorly dressed, balding man, smelling of B.O., who we found out to be the owner. He rudely slapped menus in front of us and spilt water on my girl. We ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich which he had said was their specialty, when the lunches were served the food was cold and greasy. Very Greasy, like the owner. Also we caught the owner who was also the barista this afternoon stirring a beverage licking the spoon and then stirring another beverage and then serving them to a table of children. It's a tiny diner with crowded inconveinient seating--literally shoulder-to-shoulder and elbow-to-elbow-- and an ever-changing menu and staff. The wait staff is often rude and ignore us. We've been there like 100 times...maybe 3 times a week, it's always the same. but, the pomme frites and mochas are to die for. it's probably worth the sass we get from the wait staff. We had a great dinner experience here, so much so that we came back the next morning for breakfast. The service was a bit slow, but the atmosphere and food more than made up for it. The space is light-filled and crisp. For dinner I had the chicken marbella, which I loved -- capers, olives, fig flavors in a yummy sauce. The next morning I had the crab & shrimp omelette which was also great. Just a really relaxing place to hang out and enjoy a meal. more

We had been heading to Pappa Hayden's, but were too early. Instead we headed for the east side via Everett street when we spotted the Everett Street Bistro. We'd gone past many times, but had never stopped. We quickly decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is pleasant , and the deli looked promising, if expensive, witth a good array of sausages and cheese for sale. The water was served in what looked like the regulation EU half liter glass, and was authentically presented without ice. The service was good and the coffee was tasty. I hadn't been to esb for a while, so i stopped in for breakfast. the meal itself was average. it was an enjoyable morning until i received the check. right below my $2.50 one refill coffee there was a charge for my $8.00 shot of jack daniels. $10.50 in total. that's a dollar more than my meal cost. i've heard that the owner wants to seem expensive because it increases the perception of value. he seems to have succeeded on the first part. its odd that the most excessive prices are for the items not listed on the menu. i wish my waiter had warned me that the liquor was a rip off. i don't think i'll give this place another chance. more

My husband and I have been passing by the Everett Street Bistro for a long time and thought it looked adorable. We finally stopped in for dinner this week. It IS adorable inside....but the rest of the experience was mediocre. Our drinks arrived promptly, but then we waited almost 40 minutes for our calamari appetizer to arrive. It was extremely greasy and too salty. After the calamari, it was another 30 minutes until my french onion soup arrived. The crouton on top was completely burned and the entire soup tasted charred. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to wait any longer for another one. During the soup, my husband and I noticed that the table next to us (a party of 4 who came in long after us) had finished their entrees and was getting ready to leave! When our entrees did arrive, they were decent, but bland. I will say that our server was friendly, polite, and tried to do her best. Maybe it was an off night for the ESB? I don't know. My husband and I decided to have a nice dinner out and always talked about trying the ESB, since moving here from Chicago. WELL.. we shoud have never put the ESB on our list of places to try. Our glasses of water came to the table filled with soapy water (it was so bad that the table next to us asked if we ordered lemonade). When we ask the female server if we could each have a new glass, she walked away annoyed and passed out table off to a new server. Our new server was just as bad as the first...we watch our food sit in the window for 15 minutes before it was brought to the table, by the time it arrive the food was cold and my husband's burger was gummy. It's hard to put cold food down but our server never came back to check on the food. To make a long evening short... we went to pay and noticed that we were given the wrong bill... it took the entire staff 30 minutes to figure out what was wrong with the bill. The table next to use was turned, while we were waiting for the bill... the couple nexted to us commented on how the ESB and really gone down hill since it first opened.
