Yeah, the food was great. But it was what happened after dessert that left a bad taste in our mouths. We left two shopping bags under our table and didn't realize it until we arri...

Everett St is Dependably Good 4/9/2006

I've been in Portland for weeks on end on business and I have been to Everett Street Bistro many times (usally for dinner) and I find it to be consistently good. Mussels are superb; the garlic chicken dish is great; and others I cannot remember have always made me want to come back for more. The only uneveness I've experienced is breakfast. The wine glass thing cracks me up - they hold the wine, don't they? Lots of restaurants around the country use similar ""casual"" glassware for wine. Relax and enjoy! more

Don't order fish 3/30/2006

Our dinner was pleasant and we enjoyed the mussels, delicious salads and adaquate wine selection. However, as a Northwest native I know how fish should be prepared and my halibut was overcooked and dry. So disappointing considering the rest of the meal was good and the chef presumably has some talent. They could have served it rare and I would have been happier. Other than sawdust halibut the place was nice including a declicious carrot cake. Give it a shot and ask the waiter the specialty. If he says fish order something else. Pros: fun atmosphere, nice little bar, great deserts Cons: poorly cooked fish, parking, limited capacity more

good spot great salad! 3/22/2006

I had lunch there yesterday the Nicoise Salad was amazing. The hard boiled eggs are perfect the spinach is fresh I will be back soon. Living most of my life in Paris I welcome the dixie cups for wine I feel really bad for the people who bash restaraunts with their free time. For those well traveled I would totally recomend this bistro for a great breakfast, quick lunch, or simple dinner. Pros: the light, the simplicity more

Wretched place! Horrid service! Never again! 3/21/2006

I waited 15 minutes for one of 3 tables that were available the whole time I stood there. When my very visibly pregnant friend arrived, she had trouble getting to our cramped table & we eventually had to ask the host to order as we only saw our waiter when he brought out our poorly-presented food and the bill for which we had to wait 15 minutes and ask for twice. Our water glasses were only filled as we were leaving, my friend's ""entree"" salad was so tiny as to be laughable and she had to ask for bread and again for butter which never came. The host tried to be helpful, but there was only so much you can do to make up for overpriced food, bad seating (the tables are right on top of each other) and needless pretension. This is not Paris, it's Portland. Get over yourselves. Pros: Cute nice host guy Cons: Service-lack thereof, Seating-cramped, Price-not worth it more

It's a bistro! 3/15/2006

I've been to this new bistro a couple of times now and I find it a lovely spot that with no pretenses tries to do its own thing. Reviewers seem to be hung up on the stemware issue, but I would have to say that if you liked the wine and you found it to be a good value, then let them make a statement with it. In Paris, or anywhere else in Europe for that matter, you are seldom served wine in the finest stemware, especially if you go to a BISTRO!!!! That's the whole point! It's casual and it's rustic. A bunch of friends and I thought the food was quite nice. The quiche was tasty; the salads were generous and full of fresh ingredients; the fries were crunchy and pleasantly unusual. Service was friendly and prompt. Overall a nice addition to the casual restaurant panorama in Portland. Pros: Friendly service, Nice atmosphere, Good food Cons: Parking more

Horrible! 3/5/2006

This is now the second time my husband and I have visited the bistro - what a terrible experience. Not only do they serve wine in glasses that resemble glass dixie cups (and refuse to provide stemware), but the food is very overpriced and presented in a way that resembles something a child would create. It's a horrible feeling leaving a restaurant after paying well over $50 and wishing you had dined at McDonalds instead. There are so many wonderful, cute bistros in Portland - pass on this one. more

Great Place!!! 2/28/2006

I have gone to Everett Street Bistro a couple of times now and have had a great meal everytime. The steak tartare is out of this world, the pulled pork sandwich amazing and the caesar salad excellent. The quiches are unreal and have some pretty fabulous coffee. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone...breakfast, lunch or dinner! Pros: Food, Wine List, Coffee more

User review by selze 2/15/2006

My boyfriend and I went for dinner the day after Valentines day (to avoid the overpriced price fixe menue) and I was thrilled to see my favorite french wine on the menue... however they brought it to me in a glass resembling a child's juice glass. Apparently it is necessary to purchase an entire bottle of wine in order to warrant stemware. Our calamari was okay, but we both ordered entree salads and were disappointed to find them undersized and oversalted. This is perhaps one of the only restaurants in Portland where two people eat for $50 and leave hungry. Pros: Decor, Wine list Cons: Portions, Stemware, Prices more

Fantastic New Find 2/10/2006

I recently was looking for a new spot for a lunch out and stumbled across the Everett Street Bistro. Our lunch was fabulous, in fact we lingered for 3 hours. The food was delicious, the cocktails lovely and the atmosphere perfect. I have since been back twice- (in 1.5 weeks). Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with pastries and sweet treats as well as interesting selections for each meal. Definately try the corned-beef hash for breakfast (served in a traditional style). The list of cheeses is to die for, and a good compliment to any meal. Prices are more than reasonable and should meet any budget. If you don't have time to dine in, take-out is also an option. However, on a busy Saturday morning we have not waited more than 5 minutes to be seated. I love this place and plan to establish myself and my sweetie as regulars. Pros: food, atmosphere Cons: small space more

Never again! 2/10/2006

A friend and I went to this place because we had heard that it was very good. The place was over crowded, tables practically on top of each other. The server was rude and when brought our wine to the table in tiny thimbles only commented that, ""People who order bottles of wine get wine glasses."" The mere fact that she was comfortable with this and refused to put our $12 glass of wine in real stemware was completely unacceptable. I spoke with the owner who did not have more to offer than some complementary appetizers. I will never go back. Cons: Overpriced, Rude wait staff more

No Corporate Headquarters dictating this menu 2/7/2006

Finally, a local restaurant that isn't ran by a corp office. We found the decor charming and comfortable, even met some really nice people at the bistro table next to us. The pom frites are comparable to those at one of our favorites in San Francisco, Chez Papa on Potrero Hill. You're going to want an extra serving of the aioli, as it will delight your palette. My dining date had the pork chop, which was not only plated beautifully but was also quite delectable. I had the Chicken Marbella and it was very tender and the spices were amazing, we paired our dinner with a nice pinot. Maybe other restaurateurs will take head with the lighting in this bistro...you could actually see what was on your plate....humm are the others hiding something? We also liked that you didn't have to ask for a non-children area. Pros: Great Food, Ample Wine List, Ambiance Cons: Street Parking, Small Bar Area more

French Bistrot??? 1/31/2006

Went to the everett bistrot for the first time sunday. The place does not look like a french bistrot but a caricature of one, cold and without a soul. I hope the owner did not pay too much for a designer. the food was below average and cold. it was very noisy and too crowded. too bad the location is good Pros: location Cons: food , decor , ambience more

A great, casual place for French food 1/31/2006

My wife and I joined some friends here last night. We indulged in a wonderful Fromage Plate of various cheeses and fruit followed by splitting a very tasty Painted Hills ground beef Bistro Burger. This was enjoyed with a wonderful bottle of French red and topped with several desserts the four of us shared at our table. Service was sharp and effective, never leaving us to feel like we were unattended. The Bistro itself has a fun, casual atomsphere which promoted easy conversation amongst the four of us. I will definitely go back. more

I was there in the first week... 1/28/2006

...and seating was rather close for my party of two. My server while eager was tasked and removed dishes before we were completely done as if a brief respite sent a signal. Prices stung and a glass of wine tiny and cute when served in tony glasses. On the upside, the bread was great! more

What a charming place! 1/15/2006

I just had brunch at this new bistro, what a wonderful addition to portland. I had the crab benedict which was fantastic, and my companion had the lox plate (which they make themselve) the place is cozy, the staff very friendly and the food great. Our server told us it was their first brunch, the place already feels well established. Keep up the good work, we will be back! more
