Yeah, the food was great. But it was what happened after dessert that left a bad taste in our mouths. We left two shopping bags under our table and didn't realize it until we arri...

Pomme frites+cafe mocha=heaven 1/6/2008

I go to the bistro about 4-5 times a week because i am in love with their Sleepy Monk coffee (Oregon made in Cannon Beach!). Their food is not cheap, but pretty tasty, and the restaurant is cute. I've met the owner a number of times, he's a nice guy. One of the waiters always call my husband and I ""ladies"", which is quite bizarre being as he is clearly not a lady! The close between 3 and 5 pm, which has been inconvenient a number of times, but they let you sit and chat for hours after your coffee is gone, and won't shoo you out. It does get busy around lunch and dinner time, but they seem to get people seated quickly enough. Pros: great coffee, relaxed, nice building, good food Cons: occasionally odd waiters, somewhat spendy more

Zero Stars 10/2/2007

Tried this place for lunch. Cute euro decor drew us in but the food was horrible. Could have hammered nails with the bread. Burger tasted gamey. Very disappointing -specially for the $$$ Pros: decor Cons: food, cramped quarters, price more

It is what it is....it's a Bistro. 10/2/2007

Look up ""bistro"" on Wikipedia, and you'll read a description of the Everett Street Bistro. Sure, it's tight seating, the service may be poor, it might be loud and ruckus, but the food is great and, chances are, you'll be taking home leftovers. Some people eat prewrapped sandwhiches at Starbucks, some want booth space for 10 at Applebees, and others prefer the titanic Henry's Tavern just down the street. But if you're meal requirements fit those provided by a Bistro, the Everett Street Bistro is your place. Pros: portions, esspresso drinks, wine list, desserts Cons: maneuverability, parking more

Getting worse each visit 7/22/2007

I've been coming here since they opened, and it's slowly getting worse. I usually dislike giving poor reviews since everyone is a complainer, but after today I just couldn't hold back. First, we wanted to sit outside. We were told no, but there was another group already outside. While we were waiting for our food they set the outside tables. Then, my food and 2 of our drinks had hair in them. One had something else unrecognizable... this has happened almost every time in the last few visits. I also saw one of the servers picking up silverware to set on tables, hovering his face about 6"" above someone's food dish breathing on it while trying to reach what he was going for. I'm more disappointed than angry, and I'm sad to say that I won't be going back after being a patron since the beginning. Pros: Food Cons: Service & overall experience more

great food worth the wait! 6/17/2007

I went to Everett Street Bistro today with my family for Father's day and had the best brunch in Portland yet. We arrived around 11:30 a.m. and were quoted a surprisingly short wait for our 9 people party. We waited a little longer than they said but when we sat down our server was a friendly and casual. She answered every question we had about the menu without a second thought.(we have one vegan and two vegetarians in our family so many questions were asked) I had the pulled pork sandwich and will have difficulty ordering anything else from their surprisingly large menu. it was so good! And my dad seemed happy too :) more

Rude. 6/10/2007

My wife and daughters arrived for breakfast at 9:30 on a Sunday. The place was half full, however, there was only one table for four; the rest were two tops. We waited about 10 minutes before being acknowledged. The host seated the couple in front of us at the only 4 top and proceeded to tell us it would be a 10 to 20 minute wait. I politely pointed out what he had done and he became quite rude saying ""We are first come first serve"" and "" If you don't want to eat here..."" Without further comment he seated to couple behind us. I can't tell you a thing about the food. We left. Cons: Rude host more

Great lunch spot 5/7/2007

We love this place great ambiance and service perfect breakfast place or classy lunch. It is fun to meet friends here on a lazy weekend after walking around shopping. They have delicious salads and omelets. more

Don't expect much 5/3/2007

Yes, it's a cute place. After that, it's downhill. My wife and I dropped by for Happy Hour and we left anything but. We ordered drinks, a caesar salad and two Bistro Burgers. Although it wasn't busy, the drinks took quite some time to arrive. We saw that the Caesar salad had been put on the shelf between the kitchen and the dining area but our waitress was nowhere to be seen. Other service people, including the manager, passed the salad many times but no one thought to deliver it to us. Finally our waitress appeared and, in no particular hurry, brought it to us (we timed it and it was on the shelf for 11 minutes). Not one minute later, the Bistro Burgers arrived and there wasn't room for everything on the table. The Caesar was passable but not outstanding. The burger was nothing special at all. The fries were completely tasteless. My wife and I didn't say much about any of this while in the restaurant but as soon as we left, we looked at each other and agreed that it would be a long time before we returned to this cute but very unenjoyable place. Pros: Cute Cons: Marginal food, poor service more

Love it. Love it. Love it. 4/22/2007

This place is the perfect lunch spot. It is cozy and quaint and the staff is really friendly and witty. Their sandwiches and salads are great, but their macaroni and cheese is rediculously amazing. This is probably my favorite place in the pearl to stop amidst shopping. Whenever I eat here I leave feeling like I live a charmed life. Pros: Charming Atmosphere, Great food Cons: Dinner can be a little expensive more

Burger needs some help 2/3/2007

My wife & I stopped by on NY's eve day for lunch. I had peeked in a few times in the past and was excited to eat here, but left dissappointed. We both had burgers that were subpar - served with shredded iceburg lettuce and flavorless meat. For $12, I expect more in a burger. After spending $50 for a mediocre lunch, ESB left a bad taste in my mouth. Pros: decor makes me feel like I'm in europe Cons: burgers more

Mostly pretty good 1/29/2007

Have been here several times and the place is mostly very good. They have an interesting 'french-like' menu and some of the items are really very good (like the mussels). Only complaint is that once in awhile they miss out completely (cold food, undercooked) and that catches you by surprise because you just don't expect that from a place like this. On the positive side, when they miss, they are gracious about it....the staff is really very friendly. Pros: Nice friendly interesting place Cons: Kitchen staff makes mistakes more

Brunch: not perfect, but we'd try it again 1/28/2007

My friend and I were looking for a place for to have Sunday brunch, and noticed the Everett Street Bistro because it was crowded. We took this as a good sign, and decided to brave a 20 minute wait to be seated. Tables are very close together, which wasn't really a problem for us because the couple at our neighboring table didn't seem to have much to say to to each other. Pros: crabcakes, pastries, location Cons: crowded, pricey, pretentious, understaffed more

Great fresh bread 11/14/2006

I can't comment on the food, but I know the bread is great. I walk by this place every morning on my way to catch the bus to work, and I stop in to pick up a fresh, hot loaf of yummy bread on the way. It's hard to stop me from eating it before I get it home for dinner! YUM! Pros: Great Bread Cons: Not hot in the evening when you need it for dinner, but still good more

Suprisingly delicious! 10/4/2006

My husband and I were both in the mood for some pasta. We were working downtown in the Pearl district with a very limited time to eat. We decided to pop in on the Friday night crowd at Everett St Bistro in hopes of a quick meal or appetizer. When we were seated we were apprehensive on the ability to get in and out in the 25 min we had for our meal. But, to our surprise the service was fantastic and very accommodating to our needs. We, as vegetarians, didn't have a huge option of items. But, we did find the vegetable/salad appetizer which was phenomenal. This dish was presented beautifully and although I didn't expect carrots, raisins, and vinaigrette to taste so delicious. The combinations on this appetizer plate were absolutely exquisite. My husband and I decided to split the eggplant dish since we inhaled a bucket of bread prior to the appetizer. The eggplant was cut, seasoned, and breaded perfectly. The sauce was a perfect compliment to the taste of the eggplant. The dish was one of my favorite eggplant marinara dishes I have had. Bravo Everett! We will be returning to enjoy the wine and a longer visit to the bistro. Pros: GREAT EGGPLANT! Cons: Not a ton of seating so you are in close quarters with other tables (not a lot of privacy) more

Loved it 7/13/2006

We went on a Thursday evening to avoid the crowds. The service was great, very friendly and attentive. We went with our little girl didn't not receive one scowl from the waitstaff, something that is very rare in ""pretentious"" restaurants. In fact, I couldn't find pretentious or offensive about the experience. True, my husband wasn't too fond of his wine glass, but really folks, it's not such a big deal. The glasses are on the smaller side but there's enough in there to carry you through your meal so calm down. The food we ordered was delicious (try the onion soup!) even though the crepes are overpriced for their size. The decor is simple, charming and refreshing. I can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu. Pros: Good service, good food, simple and refreshing atmosphere Cons: a few items on the menu were overpriced more

great cocktails, great eats 7/7/2006

Delicious. Great presentation, great service, great cocktails, great food. They use really fresh ingredients in the drinks and the food - and they have Hair of the Dog Blue Dot on tap. While it is pricey, I paid for more than the food - the ambiance is fantastic - nice outdoor seating, they let you relax and enjoy your cocktails and spend 3 hours there, dabbling away at your food. However, the crepe in particular is not worth 10$ due to its small size. The entrees are bigger, and the fromage plate and pommes frites appetizers are particularily delcious. Try the mojito. mmmm. Can't testify to the complaints about dry meat - I'm a vegetarian. Lots of options for us veggies. And - it's unique in a city FULL of restaurants. No pretension here though. I LOVE food, I LOVE good food, and I LOVE the Everett St. Bistro. Pros: Vegetarian food, specialty food Cons: price (go here for celebrations) more

Disappointed 6/30/2006

My husband and I ate at everett street bistro for dinner the other night. it would be too generous to call the whole experience mediocre, but we have had worse. My husband's meat dish was terribly dry and the sauce too salty. Everything was way over priced for what they had to offer. I will go back, but it will only be for my morning coffee. It's too bad because the neighborhood really needed something a little different than what is usually offered. this bistro attempts to fill that void but seriously misses the mark. Pros: good coffee Cons: food, service more

great straight up food 6/17/2006

great place, no need for flare. had a few spots to iron out since opening, but the it seems all the growing pains are gone. love it! Pros: food, service Cons: parking can be difficult at times, very busy weekends more

Real French Bistro feel 5/26/2006

Great restaurant, great food & great location. Definitely make a reservation. Real French bistro feel; you wont find stemmed wine glasses here so if youre so snobby you can only drink from a stemmed glass, go elsewhere. My wife says great beer too! Pros: Great food & service, Good people watching, Courteous staff more

Good food, snobby servie, a little pricey 4/19/2006

Been here twice with my wife and we like it quite a bit. The food presentation and taste is very good. We also like them decor and feel to the place for the most part, but you are paying for rent with those meals so don't be surprised when the bill is over $40 for lunch for 2 with 1 drink. I do have to say the wait staff seems to be in a joke that no one else is in on. Kind of like that feeling they are all laughing in the kitchen but put on a straight face on the floor. Odd, odd feel. Ourparticularfemaleserverwasbusybutgood. We did have to ask for a few things. We enjoy it and will goback, not just because I like to make their effeminate waiters work hard for their tips.Ha! Food is worth it, but don't expect that down home warmth as saidinanotherreview. Pros: food, location Cons: wait staff just ok more
