We came to have a good time to your restaurant but we left upset and sad. You have really destroyed this place with the horrible food you are serving and cutting down on service and cleanliness. The bathroom for woman was stinking real bad with urine and poop all over the place . Where is your cleaning help for God's sake? Where is the health department to see for themselves. more

Poor, very poor management 8/10/2013

I totally agree with the previous commentator. I used to come to this restaurant once a week for many many years to enjoy the good food and great piano entertainment by a kind gracious talented pianist Michaelangelo. \r He was the reason we came as well as all the members of our church before we held our square dancing every Sunday night. Our neighbor Sunshine and her sister would urge each and everyone of us to go see him for his versatile and amazing repertoire of piano music. It is so sad to see this place gone down in its quality of food and piano entertainment as well as the service.\r Very sad indeed.\r more

Very bad service, awful food and tasteless piano music.\r The glory days of this restaurant are gone. Olive Garden is way much better than this crap you serve. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 2/25/2013

This a legitimate complaint and I want the whole city of Houston to know about this matter.\r This is the worst Italian food I have tasted in my life and Unfortunately I have to say that our expectations were completely the opposite of what we experienced . Not only was the food aweful but the manager ( kind of a slim tall fellow with glasses who by the way claimed to be Mr. Cavatore the owner ) was cocky and very obnoxious. I remember the owner being a nice kind and gracious fellow that would do anything to please his clients.\r And by the way if he is the new owner, I can assure you he is in the wrong kind of business with that rude & impolite behavior towards my family. I speak Spanish fluently and I do not appreciate the language used to describe my wife and her family regardless of color. We expect to be treated with respect and for adjustments to be made to our tab considering the terrible meal served cold and cooked lousy.\r \r I called the next day and a lady by the name of Sharon answered and I explained to her what occured and she even said that that man has an attitude problem.\r Shame on you Cavatore Italian restaurent. more

Restaurants in Houston come and go with 6/6/2012

Restaurants in Houston come and go with amazing speed. But Cavatore's has been around for a long time. I think it's because they continue to serve up consistently good food. We used to live in the area but moved away recently. I was craving the caesar salad so my husband and I drove back to the neighborhood. We were greeted by a new face. I think her name was Sharon. She was gracious and friendly. There was piano music that night which made for nice atmosphere. Not too loud but nice to listen to. What I like about this place is that the food is reasonably priced and portions are pretty large. I started with the table side caesar salad. Love watching them prepare it and you also get to choose which ingredients to put in it-like anchovies and garlic. I then had the Italian sausage with pasta. The flavors blend well together. It was really good. My husband had the steak with brandy sauce. He was equally pleased with his meal. We skipped dessert but ordered coffee. When they brought out our coffee it was accompanied by a complimentary tasting of gelato. Turns out the restaurant was trying out a new concept. We thought the gelato was a nice touch. All in all, great time. more

My husband and I brought our two kids 5/29/2012

My husband and I brought our two kids to Cavatore last Saturday. It was my daughter's 10th birthday. We made a reservation through OpenTable. I love that they have that option. We were greeted with a friendly welcome and seated at the exact table I selected on the OpenTable app. Our server greeted us and brought fresh garlic bread to our table. My family and I loved everything we ordered. After we were done with our meal, our server brought out a piece of the best Tiramisu I have ever had. They even put a candle on top! It was so sweet and thoughtful. I know my daughter will always remember her 10th birthday. Cavatore is a great place to have birthday dinners! more

Like any other Houstonian on a diet, I 5/29/2012

Like any other Houstonian on a diet, I was in search for a healthy meal loaded with flavor. My friend from work recommended Cavatore Italian Restaurant a couple of weeks ago. She could not stop talking about the casual atmosphere and delicious food. So last Friday my boyfriend and I decided to try it. We were greeted by a hostess that made us feel extremely welcomed. We were seated in the main room and our waiter greeted us. My boyfriend and I felt like the staff was very friendly and it seemed as if they were excited we were there. I read through the menu and searched for a healthy option. The Petti Di Pollo Alla Griglia immediately caught my eye. I chose gluten free and whole wheat pasta and ordered a side of spinach. I loved that Cavatore lets you chose between regular pasta and whole wheat pasta. This was perfect for my diet! We sat and listened to the piano player as we waited for our food. Our food arrived shortly after we ordered it. My chicken was cooked to perfection and was loaded with flavor. My spinach and whole wheat pasta were also very appetizing. My boyfriend and I both agreed that Cavatore would become a regular dining spot for us. My meal was healthy and loaded with flavor. I was also very satisfied with the service. Cavatore is doing a great job! Can't wait to go back! more

We dined at Cavatore's for Mother's Day 5/29/2012

We dined at Cavatore's for Mother's Day and had a wonderful experience. The place was very busy but our service was great. Our waiter was very friendly and was knowledgeable about the specials and wine list. The lasagna and tiramisu are two of my favorite items.Delicious!! We have frequented Cavatore's many times over the years and have never been disappointed! We will be back soon. Keep up the good work. more

Italian Cuisine in a Casual Atmosphere 5/28/2012

Cavatore Italian Restaurant serves family-friendly Italian fare. This red-checkered tablecloth restaurant has been serving country-style Italian fare since 1984. Rustic and charming, from the outdoor paddle wheel to the open-loft ceiling, you will experience a unique setting as soon as you step into this 100 year old barn turned restaurant. Located near the Heights on Ella Boulevard a few blocks inside the 610 loop. SInce our last visit a couple of years ago, we understand that Cavatore has acquired new management. We were disappointed to discover that the former piano player, Michelangelo, who was always very friendly and accommodating, had been replaced by a duo of musicians who are billed as playing jazz but who in actuality, at least while we were present, performed a mixed musical selection. We understand that the food and service has declined somewhat under the new management. We would concur based upon our most recent dining experience. While our service was good and the food quality acceptable if average, it failed to excite us nor did it seem as savory as in the past. For the price diners can do better if seeking authentic Italian cuisine. Old world standard Italian dishes are served in a casual space adorned with an eclectic blend of memorabilia from across Italy. Appetizers include Italian meats and cheeses, squid and escargot. Classic entrees include Spaghetti, ravioli, cannellone and linguini. From the Calamari Fritti appetizer to the Lasagna Al Forno, this casual Italian restaurant provides many several options sure to appeal to the children as well as adults in the group . Leave room for traditional ""dolci"" like cannoli, tiramisu and spumoni. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply taking a break from the workday world, Cavatore?s is a good choice for a reasonably priced casual Italian venue with an appealing d?cor. Hopefully Cavatore will regain its stride soon. more

The worst Italian Food 5/17/2012

I would not give this Barn ( shack ) even one star. This is the worst Italian food we have ever tasted and the funny thing is the waitress even confirms that. Martha used to be our waitress for years and she confirms the place has been in decline and getting worse over the years. What a shame. more

Poor, very poor management 10/25/2011

This is the worst management we have ever encountered at a restaurant, a very uncaring manager indeed. We were greeted at the door by Ana with a very cold and unwelcome face just because we were late 10 minutes to arrive. We called and made sure they are open and we tried to hurry to be there on time. We heard her say bad comments in Spanish behind our backs and as a result the service was hurried and rushed and despicable to say the least. We don' t know who cooked our food but it tasted horrible as if the dish washer did the cooking. We called to complain the next day to the owners but having her answer the phone( we could recognize her voice) , she made sure we do not report her to the owners and she refused to let us talk to them. I would like to add : Just a BIG note to the owners, we will NEVER EVER dine again at your restaurant and we will make sure that all our friends will do the same. What a horrible experience. more

I was at Cavatore for my friend's birthday party on Saturday night. It was a tremendous experience! I never expected to find such a place in the middle of a neighborhood that is not trendy (yet). Their patio has hanging colorful lights every where, cool outdoor tables, fun pinatas, a DJ, full bar and some appetizers. It was perfect. We live abroad and credit cards companies don't understand we can be in two different countries on the same day. In most restaurants they act stiff and untrusty when my credit card is declined. The two managers on duty were great and didn't. They were funny about it, they just wanted us to enjoy the party and suggested we went to an ATM after the party ended so we woudn't miss the fun. It was an amazing experience and I want to be back as soon as possible! Thanks more

Sensational Italian food! 4/4/2011

I was here in Houston for job training and given a recommendation for this restaurant by 2 different co-workers. What an experience. I got to listen to live jazz piano during dinner. I had the canneloni stuffed with veal. The fresh tomato sauce was to die for. And the tiramasu I had for dessert was as light as air. I will definitely be going back before I go home. more

Absolute Perfection!! 1/30/2011

Nowhere in Houston can you find such a great family run restaurant with great ambience, a wonderful staff (especially the manager, Federico Cavatore, who is also dashing and a perfect gentleman) and FANTASTIC food! I have been to Italy many times and consider myself quite the connoisseur when it comes to Italian food. All of the Northern Italian dishes are to die for!! The Caesar salad is very well known and since I saw it featured in a food magazine (cant remember the name) I had to try it for myself. I was quite pleased to see that the waiters made the salad right in front of us so that we knew they were using the freshest ingredients and nothing was pre-made. It was delicious. I ordered the angel hair pasta with seafood and rosa sauce. It was fantastic and I then finished it off with one of the house made desserts (tiramisu). It is a charming place and my cousin ended up having his wedding reception there so needless to say, it has become a family favorite. I am glad that I can supp more

Informal Sophistication 1/29/2011

My brother and his fiance'e feted their Rehearsal Dinner at Cavatore's Italian Restaurant. The General Manager, Federico Cavatore was congenial and even helped us hang two banners that read, 'Congratulations Brother and New Sister' on the wall. He was a cultivated and polite young manager--refined yet real. Wine and water flowed, our appetizers efficiently served, and all of our friends were complimenting the staff because they were so attentive we felt like aristocrats. Our friends happily indulged in the copious amounts of ambrosial cuisine! My brother and his fiance would not have chosen another venue to celebrate their Rehearsal Dinner because this inviting family restaurant was perfect. It is neither Cici's Pizza or Chuck E.Cheese's nor Collina's or Olive Garden. Cavatore's is a ludique yet informally sophisticated place where we are happy to frequent. To the man and his wife who will never go there again, I may cross paths with you one day at Chuck E. Cheese's--no reason to act like a sour grape there!!!!!! more
