Swanky and fun! 4/7/2005

Thanks to its ultra modern but classy redesigned interior, this brasserie is the perfect place for afterwork drinks or a business dinner to impress the clients while not breaking the bank. The Grillades menu is where the food shines but its overpriced wine list is weak and mundane. The service was very attentive however and very adept at handling large parties so it's perfect for the impromptu dinner party with friends! more

Fantastic! 3/28/2005

I was there yesterday for easter and what an amazing experience. The waitstaff was very accomodating and the food was great. I'm glad there is still great places like this in new york city. Often people are very eager to criticize but forget to appreciate. Thank you so much to make that Easter so memorable. Can't wait to come back Thanks Pros: Service, Food, eager to please more

This place is great! 3/23/2005

This restaurant is a crowd pleaser...literally! I came here on a Friday night with 17 other people. The staff was extremely patient and accomodating despite the fact that our reservation was originally for 12 and then grew to 20 and then finally reduced to 18. I truly appreciate the waitstaff for their politeness and flexibility. We were seated in the back room which was perfect because we were away from the hustle and bustle of the main room. The food was also wonderful. I had the escargot appetizer and the mussels entree. Both were so delicious! What a chic and classy restaurant! Pros: Excellent service, Delicious food, Beautiful decor more

Trés Midtown Chic 8/2/2004

Since it was my birthday and restaurant week, my friends decided to splurge on me for dinner at Brasserie. Service was very prompt and I had the Vietnamese Kobe Steak Salad, the Hangar Steak with Rissotto, and the indulgent Brasserie Sundae. Everything was presented on white plates very elegantly as places of this calibre should. The only beef I had was the scrunched up seating like you have to be a thin supermodel to park your butt in. We were seated close to the bar also and the litany of ""F's"" and ""S's"" swear words from the suits brought in the declassé factor. Otherwise it was fine with the innovative ambiance, vibe and chic Sex n the City appeal. However, no Supermodels spotted on the night we went. Probably they're at home having a tic-tac. Pros: Mod Ambiance, Happening Scene, Great tasting food Cons: , Too Loud Bar goers more

Good food, poor service 6/28/2004

I visited Brasserie with a friend and her mother and the food was delicious. We had steak frites and chocolate cake. They were delicious. The only problem was that our waitress was condescending when advising us on how well done our at meat should be due to the cut of the meat. But I don't know if this is charcateristic of all of the waiters in the restaurant. Oh, and the decor was very hip. Pros: good food, cool atmosphere more

fun for groups but food overrated 6/22/2004

I went with a group of 8 for restaurant week. The food was beautifully presented, but many of the dishes were just mediocre (e.g. rock shrimp, poached salmon). Their steak dish was fabulous though. The atmosphere and decour somewhat make up for all of that though. more

The Place to See! 6/17/2004

This is one of the coolest places to start the night in NYC. Go to the bar and ask for "Tim He was one of the best bartenders in town. Ask for one of his recent concoctions. The drink and the food on the bar menu are awesome. We love to split the mussels and fries or the sushi. The bar also has unique entertainment. As you walk in your picture is plastered on one of many digital screens. Loud, fun, great food, great drinks, outstanding bar service. What else can you ask for??? (One Hint: Stay at the bar!) Pros: Great Mussels, Creative Cocktails, Bartenders more

midtown with a hint of vibe 6/16/2004

a midtown standard -- always good bistro food with a sometimes asian touch, excellent design, and good vibe for a midtown restaurant whether business or pleasure. more

Busy and loud 5/17/2004

This place is ideal for someone who likes a crowd because it's quite loud here. Definitely would not come here for a quiet business deal. The food is really good, the service is thorough, but can be a little slow when it gets really busy. I'm a huge fan of fabulous decor and this venue definitely delivers. If you're a fan of interesting bathrooms, check this one out. If you're a fan of homemade ice cream/gelato, definitely check that out too! Pros: Busy, Decor, Good food Cons: , Expensive, Slowish when busy more

An island in a barren sea 2/8/2004

I can see making this a regular stop on my dinner circuit. We chose Brasserie as our break out from restaurant week, and it was the right choice. From the grand entrance to the incredibly lucky booth seating that gave us a sweeping view as the evening unfolded, we got off to a great start. The tissue wrapped baguette OK, the european butter better, and the wine list short but with very good choices regardless of budget. The raw bar and the lobster salad were excellent considering the season, and the French onion soup tasty and thankfully not too salty. The seared king salmon was well presented and cooked to perfection. If you choose the excellent rib-eye steak with the nicely and spicily flavorful Chipotle Béarnaise, be prepared to lug half of it home. The chocolate beignets with caramel ice crean filled what little space there was to finish this excellent and fairly-priced dinner. more
