Very impressed! 11/12/2011

I scheduled an appointment for an updo at AVEDA after seeing it cost $23 rather than the $60 I was planning on paying at another salon (I'm a UT freshman on a budget). I figured for $23 it would be an ok 'do, not fantastic, but for that price I would be very happy with whatever I got. Instead, I was so surprised! This was undoubtedly the prettiest, most well put together updo I had ever gotten. My hairdresser, Noelle, was already so knowledgable and skilled after only 2 months on the floor and would always ask for advice or help from her instructor if she encountered a tricky part. The updo stayed in all night, which is a lot more than I can say for the $80 updo I got for Prom last spring that fell out by the end of dinner. I will definitely be coming back to the AVEDA Institute for other services and recommending them to other UT students! more

The instructors and my hairdresser constantly communicate with me to ensure that the color is exactly what I want and tweak my formula as needed. more

Long wait 11/10/2011

I had an appt at 1:00 and was texted multiple times that my appt was confirmed. After I checked in, I waited for 25 minutes and then a woman told me that the girl I schedule with went home sick earlier and someone would be with me shortly. I waited until 2:10. It then took over 4.5 hours to put foils in my hair. I just wish someone would have told me my original appt had been changed and that foils take that long! I loved how my hair turned out and my stylist was very sweet. more

Hair cut 11/8/2011

this is my 2nd time to have a hair cut from the institute. Overall I am pleased, my biggest concern is the amount of time it takes to get a hair cut and my hair wasn't "styled" when I left. It was about 3 hours and I left with a hair cut, but it didn't look like the picture that I had brought. The cut was fine, I just expected to leave with it styled with a hot iron etc. especially after 3 hours. I know that your stylists will get faster and perhaps in a couple of months that same stylist would be able to do more and I would leave fully "styled". more

A Hidden Gem! 11/7/2011

When moving to Austin, my old Aveda salon told me to try the Aveda Institute as it was a great deal! I have been going to the Aveda Institute since they began accepting appointments in Dec 2010 and have been thrilled with all the services. Instructors work with the student and monitor the work so you don't feel like a guinea pig and everyone I have met there is very friendly! The one downside to the appointments is since you are working with students & their instructors, the appointments are longer than what you would experience in a regular salon. However, when you book, the receptionist should be able to tell you how long to plan for whatever you are having done! Hair is great but don't forget to sample their Spa Services also -- really a hidden gem and GREAT prices!! more

great price, nice cut but took forever 11/7/2011

It's a great deal on a decent haircut for $15 but the trade-off is that it took 2 hours to cut my hair (not even changing style from what I had before). Also, as strict as they are on customers about their late policy, I waited 20 minutes just to be seen, so I was there a total of 2 1/2 hrs. They are very careful to check with the educators regularly, which means you will probably get a quality cut, but when there are a lot of people there, it takes 10-15 min to get someone to check the stage of your cut, which adds up. more

Really nice job! 11/6/2011

I scheduled both hair color and a brow waxing. This was my first time at the institute and I was very happy with the service. The prices were great, the staff was friendly, the students were fun to work with, the tea was nice too. You do have to take into consideration that the time frame will be longer since they have to have their professors check their work and ask you some questions at the end. My color looks great and the waxing was quick and painless! :) I will be going back. more

Service here is always great & professional. My only complaint would be that when I booked, I was told this would be a 2.5 hr service. I was done in just under 4 hours. If I'd known it would take that long I would have scheduled for another day. more

Hair Color and Haircut 11/3/2011

The Aveda Institue is beautiful. My appointment was for a color and cut. The service took 4 hours! I love that they use Aveda Products. They are student and learning but felt I was there way too long. For that reason, I would not go back for a color/cut. I will go back to try other services. more

My new salon 11/1/2011

Aveda Institute has done a wonderful job of meshing school with salon style. You have the feel of being in a real salon (aside from the often seen mannequin heads used for practice). I have been a client of the Institute for almost one year and have had three different stylist. Each have performed my cuts and colors just as I've asked. When any student is not sure of the next step or cut, they have never hesitated to ask the Instructor for assistance/guidance. The location is ideal, but requires extra time since I travel from west and northwest Austin. I have always loved Aveda color and products. I have not been dissapointed yet in any service and no longer pay double the price for the same service (though each appointment takes a little longer because of the teaching process). I highly recommend giving it a try. more

Beautiful facility but its new so they are still working out the kinks. Its a shame they no longer offer the night program for people with jobs and/or kids. Caring and committed teachers... Renee is especially amazing. more

I always love going to Aveda Institute. The only thing I can wish for is that there be two instructors so it doesn't take so long. Waiting for them to check the students work before each step can take a long time. I was there for 2.5 hours for my haircut. Always a positive experience tho. more

Other than some water running down my neck during my shampooing, I had a wonderful shampoo/haircut/hair style experience. I always enjoy learning about the products used by my stylist so I can buy a trial size. more

Good haircut, but it took too long 10/27/2011

In the end my haircut came out well, but I was frustrated that it took a total of 3 hours (keep in mind that I did receive the deep conditioning treatment). Though the people were friendly, I was bothered by how pushy they were at the end to have you buy their products. I've never had anyone be so pushy in selling something to be me and I found it very surprising that Aveda would encourage this. more

The experience was 100% awesome! Andrea overcame every hurdle my normally troublesome head of hair tried to throw her way. No other stylist has ever made me look as hot (and I've had some prestigious stylists work on me!), and she made every minute I was there fly by! more

hair color 10/23/2011

This was my second time to have all over color. I wanted to try a little darker color and the student as well as the educator took extra time and care to make sure we were all on the same page. The color came out great and I will continue to go back. I really like how the educator talked with the student right in front of me and included me in part of the discussion as well. I got exactly what I hoped for in the color. Thanks for a great experience! more
