Shining Bright in New Spacious Location 6/2/2006

We went for my husband's birthday. Loved the new decor and lighting.. black chairs, warm woods, elegant copper bar. The bartender made the most deliciously sour Long Islands and Midori Sour. Generous bread basket delivered to table, and chef sent out a complimentary taste of the bruschetta to every person at our table. Amazingly delicious, spicy puttanesca. My spinach salad had a large portion of walnuts, and a light, tangy dressing. The chocolate cake brought tears to two of our friends' eyes, it was so delicious. The chef was happy to edit my pasta to make it vegetarian. Pros: Friendly staff, Late night bar menu, Vegetarian friendly more

Average 1/13/2006

We went here for my birthday. The waiter took our drink orders and we started with martinis. We wanted to have wine for dinner, but the waiter was only interested in selling something high-end ($100+). When I asked for feedback of a wine in a bit lower price range, it was obvious that the waiter's interest level in us dropped a few notches. Also, the wine was brought out while we still had our unfinished martinis on the table (big no-no), by the owner no less! The food was average, but perhaps we didn't pick the best thing on the menu. I didn't necessarily feel like we were getting rushed out the door, but I didn't exactly feel like we were invited to stay as long as we wanted, either. No doubt, turning over tables in a small space on 45th St. is important for their business. more

One of our faves 11/18/2005

Tried and true. Excellent food and ambiance. (And good politics.) more

Our favorite ... Cozy in Wallingford 4/16/2005

We love this place. It is tiny, but that just makes it cozy and homey. The food is really amazing and there are creative people in the kitchen. The wine list is great, and the staff is very knowledgeable, but not pretentious or obsequious. We love the octopus appetizer with small fried potatoes. The pasta is very good, but I suggest splurging for one of the entrees instead. Eat, drink, and be merry. P.S. Be sure to make reservations and show up on time they are serious about this (being so small). Pros: Great Food, Wine List, Staff Cons: Not for kids more

You'll leave with a smile 10/31/2004

I highly recommend this place, especially if you need a little extra love in your tummy. The food is amazing. The chef really knows what she's doing, as do the rest of the staff. If you are looking for a memorable culinary experience, this is the place. Pros: Food, Wine, Staff more

Recommended with one caveat 10/5/2004

My husband and I tried Asteroid Cafe this weekend based upon a friend's recommendation. We were prepared for the place to be small, but when we arrived we found ourselves to be surprised, even with the advance prep. In a nutshell, the food was very good, the wine service was extraordinary, and the ambience left a lot to be desired. I think this cafe offers great value, and if you are a wine lover you need to visit at least once to make your own judgement. However, we are on the fence as to whether or not we will return, because the space is cramped and not terribly inviting. Pros: value, wine list Cons: , cold, cramped more

OK but...won't be back 9/15/2004

I had great expeactation but you know...it's not worth the money. Food is ok, they do their best blending Italian and somehow French, well...it's like blending Chinese and Japanise. Just doesn't work. Pros: Location, Selection more

intimate spot 8/2/2004

This restauraunt is one of my favorite spots with excellent traditional italian food and great personalized service. You can't pick a better date spot! It is a little cramped however more

Can't Beat It! 4/4/2004

Went there for the 2nd time Friday, and just as pleased as the first time. Yes, it is small and cramped, but that is part of the charm. It is not a kid-friendly place, so leave them at home and enjoy a nice night out. Service is attentive, everyone is friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious - have had 4 flawless entrees, and awesome desserts. If you haven't tried it, you should, but call for reservations! Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

Unique recipe 5/21/2003

Outrageously rich pasta menu, flawlessly seasoned and prepared, run by a group of very hip musicians. One of the better wine lists in town. Save room for tiramisu. Pros: THE FOOD, Educated service Cons: Slave-ship packing more

ROCKS 2/19/2003

This place rocks. From the music in the background to the food in the foreground, this place is a 10 for eating great Italian, taking a date or just relaxing with some good food and friends. more

Decent food but bad attitude 12/3/2002

Good enough pasta, but the service is execrable, and the restaurant is definitely not family friendly. At one point we were brought the wrong entrée. As my wife and I puzzled over it, the hostess gruffly came over to our table, demanded we replace the serving spoons, scooped up the small portions we had already placed on our plates and returned them to the serving bowl and carried the bowl directly to another table, offering it to the couple there with no apologies. Later a server dropped a dish on our table, damaging the table cover. The hostess tried to blame this on the child carrier we were using. Definitely not a place to take your children or parents, or anyone else who you wish to impress with your judgment! Pros: good food Cons: awful service, family unfriendly more

Huge Menu and Everything is Good! 8/19/2002

What a delightful suprise in Wallingford to find such a lovely Italian treat. Asteriod has a giant menu full of pasta cooked to perfection and ""specials"" that include complex flavors and smooth Italian taste. The wine list includes several gems and if you are not an expert any one of their staff is knowledgeable and shares their wisdom on what to drink with your meal. The only downside to Asteriod is the size of the restraunt. With only about 15 tables many will find a short wait (with no where to wait but outside on the sidewalk). But be patient, the food/wine and imported Italian Ice dessert is well worth a short wait on the sidewalk. Cons: Small more

Best Italian food in the city! 8/9/2002

Really friendly and helpful staff. GREAT wine selection. Awesome menu. Definitely worth checking out - one visit and you'll be hooked! Very popular neighborhood spot. But it's small and they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more, so be prepared to wait a few minutes for a table. But it is absolutely worth it! Pros: Great Menu, Great Wine Selection, Awesome Staff Cons: Small more

Really amazing food! 8/5/2002

Just went to the Asteroid for dinner for the 2nd time and again was soooo impressed. The new menu allows for more creativity from the chef but they still offer the old menu too. Marlin again outdid himself explaining various wines that would match our choice of the special. He was very open to asking how much we wanted to spend on a wine and then giving us 3 different choices. The wine was a knockout! Special of the night was grilled escolar on a bed of saffron risotto with suateed fennel and a tomato/citrus sauce. AMAZING! And for dessert be sure to order a few of the sorbets that they have flown in from Italy. Wonderful flavors tucked into the fruit they represent. We dined for 2 1/2 hours and they constantly checked on us and never hurried us along. Pros: Food, Wine list Cons: small tables more

Fabulous! 7/3/2002

I haven't had a dish here yet that didn't knock my socks off. Ask Marlin to pair wines for your meal - you won't regret it! Pros: Amazing Food, Great Service, Well worth the price more
