Review content:
Wendy and Henry, the owners, are superb as hostess and chef. Sally, Henry's sister, is a dear friend, too, and either she or wonderful Lena will likely take care of your table. I've been eating here since 1985 and the only place I feel more at home is home. \r
\r
My firm conclusion - - after deliberate comparisons with other Chinese restaurants in Houston as well as Vienna, Paris, London, San Francisco, Sydney and Hong Kong - - is that Henry's hot-and-sour soup is simply the best there is. Period.\r
\r
The Ambassador is also a terrific place to celebrate birthdays. and, with notice, Wendy will even go to the trouble of ordering (and picking up) a bake-shop birthday cake for the party. And did I mention the spicey eggplant and the special salad and the moo goo gai pan with bell pepper and freshly shredded ginger with chili and dumpling sauce - - and not once being over-charged a cent in literally hundreds of visits in the last 25 years? And the spicey green beans and the Hunan chicken and the orange beef?\r
\r
Pros: Peppered shrimp, tomato beef, pan-fried vegetable dumpings
Cons: Absolutely none
