Dr. Nicolson has been my son's pediatrician since he was born-7 years ago. When my son was born, he had problems eating. The nurses kept wanting to give him formula, but when Dr. Nicolson found out, he put his foot down and told the nurses to let me try to breastfeed since that is what I wanted to do. The nurses came in and told me and the nurse said "He does things a little differently than most doctors, but he's right about 99% of the time." To have the nurses say that about a doctor boosted my confidence in him. He has a wonderful manner with kids and doesn't talk down to me when I ask silly questions. I have recommended him to many friends, who have all been more than happy with him. His office is older, not all high-tech and brand new, but the staff there is wonderful (in fact the receptionist knows my voice when I call). When I needed a short-notice appointment, I was always able to get it. He will take the time to explain everything to you. To me, he seems more like how doctors were when I was growing up-they know their patients, not just their charts. He's a little old-fashioned, but it's in ALL the right ways. He keeps up on all the current reports and research, but he's not afriad to tell you to take your child home and give them some soup instead of a prescription.
