Great features, but poor customer service 2/3/2006

I was a customer of Cox Communications for many years. Unfortunately, they run most of the areas in Oklahoma, so you don't have a choice when it comes to cable television, internet, etc. I have always preferred cable for my internet services, as it seems much faster and more reliable than DSL. Cox does offer a lot of great features to choose from. They offer more channels than a the cable networks in smaller towns and cities. They do have a pretty good package, where you can get phone, internet and cable for less that $100 a month. But... if you want their internet services, you have to subscribe to their cable television package as well. I know that's common with some companies, but I like the companies that don't require it. My main problem with Cox Communications is that they have horrible customer service. Every time I called with a problem, it seemed to take forever to get it resolved. I was using their internet several months ago, and the modem died. It took close to two months for them to replace the modem, which was under warranty. When I'm paying that much for a service, I expect it to work, with few problems. Another problem I had with their service is that there were always interuptions. Every time we had a storm, which is often in the Spring and Summer months in Oklahoma, we knew it would be down fo at least a day, but the worst part was that it would often go down for no apparent reason. Sometimes it would be fixed in an hour, sometimes a day. As a small business owner, who depends on the internet to make money, it was completely unacceptable. If you live in an area where you have a choice of cable providers, Cox is great if you want the service because it's something you enjoy, but if it's something you need, you may want to look elsewhere. more
