I was excited at the prospect of a gourmet foods store in the neighborhood, but have been largely disappointed by Union Market. Most of their stock is standard health food store fare that I will continue to buy from Back to the Land. What they offer that is unique is the selection of fresh breads, a large selection of Hale and Hearty Soups, and an Italian gelato/sorbet stand. They have some prepared foods by the pound, but from what I have tried, they aren't very good. Many of the dishes are spiced only with hot pepper flakes and taste like fire and not anything else.
