My husband and I just switched to this dental practice because our other dentist, while nice, mostly relied on her assistant to do all the work. Our friend recommended that Dr. Cederbaum actually does the cleaning herself. We didn't get Dr. Cederbaum, but were both seen by her associate Dr. McMurray. (I think they alternate staffing their Ravenna and East side offices.) It was a pleasant, gentle and pain-free experience, so after first visit, thumbs up.

I was very impressed with this place. They charge $45 for a women's cut and $80 for partial highlights, but they offer a much nicer/upscale atmosphere and attention to customers than other places that charge that same price. My stylist was Jake and my colorist was Kadence, and I liked both -- I was very happy with my cut and color! In addition, the place just looks very polished and the staff is very professional.
One thing that makes this place interesting is that they all undergo school for the special Gene Juarez method of cutting/styling, and then they are required to continue attending classes once a week for the duration of their employment with the company, in order to keep up with the latest trends and new techniques. Both Jake and Kadence were very excited about this program because it keeps them learning and interested. This benefit also seems to keep them loyal to the company.

This restaurant reminded me of Brasa a bit, not just because it participates in the 25 for 25 program (25 restaurants offering 3-course meals from $25 Sun-Thur for the month of March 2006), but also by the level of service, type of menu, and prices (most dinner courses around $28, though the lobster leg is $45). However, the food was great, but not as outstanding as Brasa, the menu is more geared towards fish (as suggested by the restaurant name), and the Third Floor Fish Cafe has a view that Brasa does not. On a clear day, you'd get a kick-ass view of the sunset of the Olympics. Overall, I recommend it pretty highly, for a date, special occasion or business dining.

I have a mixed view of this place. They are located in lower Queen Anne, right between Aurora and Dexter, and specialize in European cars, obviously. What I didn’t like about them is that they are pretty pricey: $1,800 for an inspection, brake pads, rotors and tune up. Also, when I picked up the car, it was making a terrible thudding/vibrating noise that wasn’t there before. It was a bolt whose threads have torn while they were fixing the car before, and they didn’t notice. At the same time, the customer service at Europa seems to be quite good. They took immediate care of the bolt problem, and replaced 3 other deteriorating bolts for free, and the owner drove me to work, from Queen Anne to Bellevue.

This Greek restaurant is conveniently located right in the heart of Fremont, at Fremont Ave and 34th. It’s a decently sized space, with part of the seating on an elevated platform and a part along a balcony, so you could easily see it become the scene of a crazy Greek wedding. On a weeknight, though, it was fairly empty, with just a few diners. The food is reasonably priced (so good for a casual dinner) and it was quite tasty. However, I would not recommend it is you’re super health-conscious as they don’t seem to economize on oil when cooking. Okay, that may be an exaggeration, but I’ve eaten some of the similar dishes in Greece and Cyprus (both at home and in restaurants), and they were made with less grease.

What a great date place! This Italian restaurant recently (2005/2006) expanded from its mini size, but is still small enough to feel intimate, especially with its tasteful décor, styled after an Italian courtyard. The owner also makes you feel right at home. About 2/3-way through dinnertime, he replaced the opera singer on the little stage in the middle of the place and gave an animated and entertaining speech about the development of the restaurant, upcoming events, etc., making everyone feel like part of the Pontevecchio family (not sure if this is a nightly event, but likely frequent enough). His staff provided a great service, and the food was excellent, especially the mushroom ravioli. It wasn’t cheap, but it wasn’t out of proportion with the level of service, food quality, and entertainment. Ah, the entertainment: they bring in members of the Seattle opera to perform classical arias. The lady that sang on our night there was fabulous, accompanied by a pianist. Note that this is really a date place rather than anything else. Most customers were couples, and 4 is probably the max they could seat around a table. It is possible that they can arrange for a group if you call them in advance, but it would probably be a bad place to bring a large loud group, or kids for that matter. But they do have “Bolero happy hours” when they bring in flamenco dancers and it sounds like the place gets a little more rowdy. Probably worth exploring.

The Dubliner, an Irish pub in downtown Fremont, is nothing fancy, but a great laid-back place to hang out over beer, a game of pool or a sports game on TV. The pool game here actually has faithful followership, and if you come by a few times, you’ll see familiar places around the table. So it’s a great place to come with friends or to meet new friends. The food here is standard bar fare, nothing fancy (for a pub with better food, head across the street to Dad Watson’s, see my other review). There is a back room if you want to hang out in a semi-private atmoshpere.

This country dancing place is locate in the north of Green Lake, and with its modest front, could be easy to walk by. But once you’re in, that feeling goes away. Full of life on Saturday night (and I hear other nights too), the Little Red Hen offers entertainment to all: drinking, dining, music, country dancing, or just oggling the dance floor. The décor does not bode well for the quality of food, but our dinners were surprisingly good. (Although…my healthy salmon had a country take on it: baked potato with a mountain of butter and sour cream and a ceasar salad smothered in creamy dressing. Good but not as healthy as some Seattlites might like.) The best part, of course, is the dancing. They had a live band, and the dance floor was full the whole time we were there (9pm-12:30am or so). There were some very good country dancers out there, as well as those (me!) who are just learning. There is also a pool table in the back, though it is clearly not the focus of action here.

Directly across the street from another pub, the Dubliner, Dad Watson’s is a lot more upscale. Where the Dubliner attracts the beer-and-pool crowd, Dad Watson’s (technically a brew pub that’s part of the McMenamin’s chain) is actually a great place for dinner. They serve traditional bar fare with a Seattle touch to it. The burgers are hormone free, and the menu includes sandwiches and pastas as well. Our party of three was quite happy with all of the food (especially the Manhattan chowder), and with the laid-back but nice atmosphere.

Conveniently located near Bellevue Square, this cleaning/tailoring place is run by a highly cheerful woman who I think does a good job. I’ve had cleaning, pants hemming and pants lining replacement done here, and I was always happy with the results. Her prices seem in line with other similar stores. The lining replacement was on the higher side ($20), but most of that goes to the fabric purchase.
