After I got engaged, I had wedding cake tastings at many bakeries. Johnnie Gabriel was by far the nicest person I met with when wedding planning. She spent more time with me than any other bakery to help me figure out exactly what I wanted. She even used styrofoam tiers to show me the exact proportions of the cake with different numbers of servings. Gabriel's Desserts also offered more flavors than any other bakery we spoke with. Not only do they have tons of flavors, but instead of giving you just a tiny bite to try, they actually bake you several small cakes of flavors of your choice to take home. This was great because we were able to have several people taste the cakes and give their opinion. We ended up with three flavors - white cake with raspberry filling, chocolate cake with cooked fudge filling, and carrot cake for the grooms cake.

I love everything about this place: it's tucked away, above an antique shop, so you feel as if you've "discovered" a rare find. The food is REALLY good...try the crab sandwich...you won't be sorry. The teas are varied and of excellent quality. Last but not least, every member of the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and charming.
You can't bring kids to some teahouses, but this one welcomes them.

This delightful treasure of a bakery & café is located right in the heart of Marietta Square. I was invited by a friend to join her for a late breakfast. Open the door & you're greeted by an Australian "G'Day Mate" or old fashioned "Hey ya'll!".
The menu is up on the wall behind the main counter to take a gander over while trying to decide exactly what you're hungry for (hint: everything!). There are plenty of traditional "____ pies" (insert meat, egg, cheese, whatever you like) available & made fresh daily. For those who have NEVER seen one, it looks a bit like a Pizza Hut pizza's 4 in 1 pizza. (I'm sure Pizza Hut took the idea! LOL).
Pick from some of the most delicious Aussie pies or other delightful desserts, pastries or lunch specials. I've been told that Vegemite is an "acquired" taste & am too chicken to try it. I enjoyed a delicious egg, mushroom, ham & onion Aussie pie. The server asked if I'd like some extra fresh cheese on mine; it tasted fantastic!
While you're eating, enjoy the Australian theme decor. It's fun to look at all of the Aussie artwork, photos & knick-knacks.
Kids are welcome too!
I'll be back to try the many different menu items like the "Croc Hunter's Special" & an Outback Pepper jack Chicken pie.
If you go to their web page, look for the Kids' Korner. Print out one of the Australian animal coloring pages & have your child color it. Visit the Australian Bakery Cafe & show them the artwork. They'll give your child a free Aussie Cookie.

What is better than donuts and ice cream available in the same place. Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins is a great place to check out if you are in the mood for some sweet treats. They are good for breakfast because they also have bagels and coffee when you go there. And they are open pretty late so that it is one of the few places you can get some food late at night.

Tucked away in a small strip shopping center, you might miss this place when driving by...don't! It's wonderful! The serving sizes are large (for individual pastry) and they even have special free treats for the kids. I LOVE the cheesecake squares and their cookies are fabulous...give them a try!
