Train like a samurai... 10/9/2008

I?ve always wanted to try some sort of martial arts for years, but I didn?t really know which one to attend. A friend of mine got me to attend one of his sessions at the Poway Martial Arts dojo, and am I ever glad he did. The class was great fun!! Tony Whetstine, the dojo?s sensei, really takes an interest in his students and absolutely encourages us with every part of our training. Besides, he?s just a great guy in general.\r \r Jinenkan, the martial art taught, is a kobudo art. Meaning it was used in ancient Japan. We study the ACTUAL scrolls the samurai used for their training. So this isn?t what the samurai kinda did, but what they ACTUALLY implemented on the battlefields in feudal Japan a thousand years ago!! With that much tradition of actual use on the battlefield, to me that?s just way cool. \r \r Some of the disciplines Jinenkan offers are in Taijutsu (unarmed fighting), Bikenjutsu (sword arts), Tantojutsu (knife) and the Bo (staff arts) to name just a few. All of these are an absolutely blast to train. Not only do these disciplines improve physical fitness, but I find that my mental conditioning has also improved significantly. \r \r I wholeheartedly recommend Poway Martial Arts to anyone who is looking to learn a martial art that is both very effective and fun!!\r more
