Hot wings and fries are great.

Oop is my favorite store for those cool but hard-to-buy-for people on my shopping list. Every time I go in, I find something new. The greeting card selection alone can keep me occupied for half an hour, laughing the whole time. But the best part of the store is the selection of funky gifts, quirky toys, and handmade crafts. Colorful, weird and wacky, if you know someone who is a true original, you will find something here for them.

They have the best sandwiches in Rhode Island, bar none. They are very creative with the ingredients and have an uncanny knack at turning combinations that sound questionable at best, into absolutely incredible sandwiches. Each sandwich comes with the name of a local celebrity. There is one drawback, which is a bit bizarre, at least as a business practice. They go out of there way to treat you in a gruff and unfriendly manner. It is definitely an intentionally staged act. The deli is located near Rhode Island School of Design, Brown University and Johnson & Wales; so perhaps they figure the college crowd will get a kick out of it. Who knows? But all in all, it is a great place to get a sandwich-just get it to go.

I stumbled upon Tazza while I was exploring Providence and started to get very hungry. A counter (which they have) is always a welcome find for me when I'm traveling solo, and so I went in. The coffee was great and my grilled sandwich (tomato, mozzerella, basil) was scrumptious. The person waiting on my seemed a little clueless (but she was nice and I think she was brand new). Though I didn't get a chance to go back during the evening, it seems that they have a good lineup and music and other events. I loved the atmosphere. If I lived in Providence, I'm sure I'd hang out there. : )

spectrum just moved into a larger location to get more space for its collection of colorful clothing, which seems to be part Indian, part hippie. The best thin about this store for the average female is definitely the accessories - they offer great leather belts, a fine assortment of bangles, and some great bags. Another good thing about Spectrum is that it is open pretty late - often until midnight!
