The Roger Williams park zoo is an adventure for children of all ages. I especially like to polar bear caves and they have an underwater pool where you can view the bears swimming. They really put a lot into this zoo thanks to Cianci. They still have some rides but very few. The carasol is a beautiful work of art and the face painter, Sue Greco, is excellent. She also does children's birthday parties in any character.
You can view some of her characters at a website called www.brunacostumes.com

The Childrens museum has been a staple in Rhode Island since I was a child. Both fun and educational this place can keep the kids busy for a day. They offer many specialized programs so there is always something new to see when you visit. This has been a staple in my family since I was a child. It is reasonably priced and there are always coupons available.

The Avon is a local independent cinema on Thayer Street in the middle of the Brown University area. It shows independent, first run movies at a reasonable price and in a comfortable if not luxurious setting. Also shows the usual cult film weekend midnight shows. The runs are short, and sometimes the shows leave before I've had a chance to see them. Highly recommended!

Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) is a beautiful old theater, that has been refurbished and is now gorgeous. They have major plays and concerts come to the theater, as well as the occasional special event. There are really no bad seats in the house, and it's right in the heart of downtown Providence. Close enough so you can walk to clubs and restaurants. There is a parking garage across the street.

I used to play hockey in highschool, but i'm not good enough for college level, and i really miss skating. it's almost like flying. i love going down to the fleet skating center when it's open in the winter months, especially during times when it's not too busy. it's only five dollars, and there's a student discount, too. it's great fun and great exercise!

We have gone to Roger William's Park Zoo a couple of times, and had a great time each visit. We took our son, who was 2 and he loved looking at all the animals. The layout is nice and they have interesting animals (more than just monkeys and snakes). The park is well shaded, so even though it is spread out and you do a lot of walking, it's not overwhelming. The exhibits are well set up and the zoo seems very well taken care of. There is currently a great exhibit about dinosaurs that we are hoping to check out soon. They offer refreshment services, which are a little high in price, but we combined that with bringing some of our own things and it made for a good lunch. The price of the zoo is decent, and we used a pass from the Entertainment Book (one complimentary admission with the purchase of another). Parking is ample, and the ticket booth staff was friendly. They have appropriate restrooms. They are easy to find right off the highway. Overall, a great family day.

Cable Car Cinema is a local independent movie theater showing first-run independent films. The chairs are actually sofas, where you can sit comfortably and eat while you watch the movie. They show independent films that don’t come to the megaplex in the mall, and provide an alternative viewing environment to boot!

More
The Fleet Skating Center has rollerskating in the summer and rollerskating in the winter. It is an outdoor rink like the one in Rockefeller Center in New York. The Fleet rink is much bigger but every bit as nice. I prefer to go ice skating in the winter. It usually does not get very busy until after five or six o'clock. It is inexpensive and a whole lot of fun.
PROS: inexpensive, fun,
CONS: cold outside in winter

This theater is great with the stadium seating and reclining seats. My wife doesn't like the seats because she like to scrunch down in them, and the headrest "bends her head forward." I don't mind them at all. The movie selection is good, but the prices are high. Matinées are affordable and offer a nice break from an afternoon of shopping.

This mall has it all! There are so many stores to choose from. They have the anchor stores of Macy's, Nordstrom and JC Penney's as well as tons of other name brand stores. The food court is huge, and there are two movie theaters on the top level. They also have Dave and Barry's restaurant, which has an excellent up-scale arcade. They extend their hours during the summer when the city has the Waterfires.
