This is a beautiful historic hotel in Downtown Providence. Stayed here on my wedding night and they up-ed my room to a presidental suite at NO CHARGE!!! This included a continental breakfast. The views from this hotel are breathtaking and I hope to get back on an anniversary. Of course, they are a bit pricey.

We had spent the last week on our friends yacht down in Newport Harbor, and left there to see a bit of Providence before heading back home. My wife checked out City Search to find a nice hotel, and after checking out the reviews and prices, we chose the Hotel Providence and what a wonderful experience it has turned into. From the Front Desk Manager, Mat, to our Bellman, Brad, to our favorite bartender Ali, wow what wonderful service we have had the pleasure to enjoy. Please, if you want your own special place, check-in here and just say ahhhh... we sure did and I bet you will as well. Trust me, we love the Westin, and other big hotels, but this was "just right".
Pros: Service, Service, Service
Cons: We couldn't stay in town any longer to enjoy this place

The Westin in Providence is exquisite. The rooms are large, the service is impeccable, and you can't beat the location. If you have a special day coming up like an anniversary or birthday, the Westin would be a perfect treat. I highly recommend.

I had never lived in an area with reliable public transportation before. RIPTA was a wonderfully nice surprise, especially considering that we are a one car family right now. It is also especially helpful since I work downtown and there is no parking that isn't at least $9 a day.
I find their drivers to be both pleasant and friendly, they tend to recognize you pretty quick when you normally take their routes and will always tell you to have a good day.
The schedule changes, when they happen by season, sometimes seem to spring up on you. A few times I've been caught waiting for a bus on the old schedule when they haven't put out new schedules yet.
The security guards are pretty active in keeping people off the bus that need to be kept off. I do think, when problems arise with a particular route/bus, that they should stick around to make sure the bus leaves before they leave their detainee unattended. One bus left 30 minutes after schedule because we had to wait for the security to come back and AGAIN forcibly remove this woman from the bus. Had they just stayed until the bus left, we could have avoided that and left on time.
The problems are few and far between. I love using RIPTA's transportation services.

I stayed here strictly because of the price ($40 a night through Priceline), so I feel bad complaining, but....I would definitely not pay more for this location. According to Priceline, it is downtown, but it is pretty far from the center of town and separated from the rest of Providence by a highway. There is a shuttle, and the shuttle drivers were very nice, but for this location it would be more convenient to rent a car. I believe they provide a shuttle because they get most of their business from Travelocity and Priceline and people are displeased to find they are actually not downtown. I did figure out how to walk to Wickenden street and it wasn't difficult, but I wouldn't walk in this area alone at night (under the highway).
The hotel has sleep number beds, which suprisingly, I found seriously uncomfortable. My only other complaint is that one night I was there the restaurant and room service closed early with no warning or explanation. Considering the location (there are no restaurants nearby) and the fact that I'm sure business travelers stay here, that shouldn't happen. The rooms were small but clean, and the view from the room (the harbor) was fine. If I had been facing the highway, I'm sure it wouldn't have been.
I won't stay here again, but it should be fine for someone not planning to see the city or who wants to rent a car.

To be sure this is a hotel. It is right next door to the convention center and also a mall. There is a trolley stop that will take you around town for a little over a buck. Close to most things and comfortable. Easy to find
Pros: quiet, clean, on sight parking
Cons: bad pillows, nice pool area

I agree with the other review, its an odd place, not really great neighborhood, but a short walk to the water and a decent view on at least one side of the hotel. They have a free shuttle service that will take you to the bars and pick you up when you are drunk!!

Heavenly, Heavenly, Heavenly!!! I don't look forward to not sleeping on my Tempur-Pedic bed at home but now after my first experience at the Westin Providence, I don't have to fear a terrible nights' sleep. The room was very clean, well-appointed in an understated luxury. We had a great view of the city as well. I have 2 suggestions: Go to brunch early ($17 for buffet) as we went at 10am, and all the food was cold and dry...they didn't replenish anything at that time. Also, ask if you can have a room not near anyone as the room beside us was a woman speaking on her cell phone LOUDLY until 2am.
Pros: Fanatastic, comfortable bed, restroom palatial with double head shower
Cons: Brunch buffet poor quality, room noise that disturbed our sleep

My wife and I stayed at the State House Inn for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room had a canopy bed and fireplace and was extremely clean and cozy. The breakfasts were lovingly prepared by Joanne and Beth and were not only delicious but were practically works of art. We were able to walk to downtown and the Providence Mall. We will come again?
