Fine dining, without having to wait 9/17/2005

Market Street Grill has to be one of the most underrated restaurants in town. The food and the service are excellent. I personally enjoy sitting at the bar and conversing with the bartenders who are very helpful in selecting a great wine or an appropriate cocktail. I'll admit the white truffle mac & cheese was a bit disappointing (couldn't taste any white truffle at all), but the happy hour prices can't really be beat and the kobe beef cheeseburgers are scrumptious. Pros: bartenders, happy hour prices, never crowded more

Best Seattle Seafood. Chowder-World's Greatest! 7/23/2005

Great Service- Always fast always nice. My favorite meal is coleslaw-clam chowder (the best ever)- Blackend Halibut fish sandwhich. Fish couldn't be fresher! If you have never had their chowder, it is the greatest! Not an overly creamy spoon stander. I have eaten many fine meals in Seattle and this is the greatest! Service is fast and the attentive waitress is great! Pros: quality, Worlds greatest Chowd, Service Cons: sometimes to crowded, only at Pike Place more

Haute Cuisine Ballard Style 12/19/2004

The creative food combintaions at the Market Street Grill rarely disappoint. Always a good mix of familiar and exotic, prepared in innovative ways. The wine list is extensive and has many moderately priced offerings. While starters and main courses are excellent, the desserts are merely good. The understated decor and high ceilings create a comfortable yet romantic atmosphere. An excellent date restaurant Pros: Romantic, Attentive Staff more

cozy, but no thanks. 9/21/2004

robby98199 Provided by Partner
The food was great, small portions, the prices were based up presentation. With entrees priced no lower than $16, I was surprised to find that a refill on 8 ounces of Sprite costs $2 each. I wouldn't be shocked if this place started charging for refills on tap water. The food was great, small portions, the prices were based up presentation; not enough to justify the stripping of your wallet's innards, nor enough to keep form straying to other Seattle hotspots. Pros: food, staff is kind Cons: , lacks great deals more

Amazing new/old chef 7/3/2004

I guess the Citysearch review is now a bit old. The original shef has returned to the Market Street Grill and the food is better than ever. Gone are the days of "runny creme brulee" and "slightly stale fig newton". Enter the original chef and the most amazing food ever. The food coupled with the atmosphere with a dash of the best service we've ever had and you cannot miss with Market Street Grill. more

One of the top restaurants around 2/19/2004

My sixth visit on a very busy Valentine's Day evening was as wonderful as always. This restaurant offers some of the most inventive and delectable food to be found anywhere. The atmosphere is romantic, comfortable, and informal. The service is consistently well above par and professional. My friends and I are difficult to impress and this place comes through every time. Perfect martinis (with Bombay Saphire, of course). Try the mushroom and phyllo appetizer for something truly amazing. Great wine list. The lamb was an exceptional must-order. My friend's duck was also marvelous. For dessert, have the bread pudding and enter heaven. I'm ready to go back now. Pros: amazing food, superior service, great parking more

Delectable Dining outside of Downtown! 2/2/2003

Just ate here for the first time in a while and was very pleased. Good in the past, great this time! The wine list is great for a neighborhood place with some good values. We had the foie gras and sweetbread and tuna tartar appetizers and both were very good. For entrees we had the sauteed duck breast with pea vines in a reduced blood orange sauce, the venison and a seared sea scallops in a seafood and foie gras nage with a wild mushroom risotto. All were outstanding. The scallops were a standout and I literally was tempted to go again within the week before the menu rotated. The duck was cooked a tad over the requested medium rare but was far from overcooked and was still very good. The prices are a bargain considering what the same food and wine would cost just 15 minutes away in downtown. Pros: Varied menu items, Seasonal Ingredients, Creative recipes Cons: Limited menu size more

A belltown chef I met at a christmas party recomended this eatery primarily for its food, but the whole experience drove me to submit this review. From the relaxed atmosphere to the knowledgable waitstaff my date and myself were utterly impressed. I found the rabbit pasta extrordinary, and my companion was thrilled with her duck confit. Desserts coimplimented the entrees and the service was impeccable. After a table-side visit from the chef to see if we enjoyed our meals my date winked at me and asked me to join her for diner the next night. Where I asked. Right here, she replied. thanx market street!! Pros: attentive service, parking, dessert Cons: closed sunday more

Sturgeon & Lentils my favorite two foods 12/13/2002

cinnamongirl2002 Provided by Partner
Who would have thought to combine them on one plate! I am a picky eater and make no bones about saying when something is just "adequate". I ordered Sturgeon and Lentils together the other night. The food and service at Market Street are way above average - but not above remembering your name or the name of your favorite scotch at 11:30pm on a Tuesday. Props to Market Street for staying in Ballard! Pros: open late, friendly staff, food worth paying for more

Fresh at the market 12/12/2002

Is this the same restraunt? I ask my wife last time we ate at market street. The food has gone from wierd southwestern food done badly to food that could be served at any of the city restraunts. I ask the server what was the change? She informed me of the new chef had worked at places like Rovers and the four seasons in california. I had the vension with onions celeriac thing and a brandy sauce,my wife had the sturgeon with thyme lentils and a red wine sauce. I found it very progressive .The desserts weren't the same old tried fare, but red wine poach pears and a chocolate terrine. The service was first rate . Overall a fun place to be . Pros: late night menu, great food, feeling of at home Cons: no lunchs more

It's gone downhill ... 11/3/2002

inballard Provided by Partner
Unfortunately, this place has really gone downhill. Without special attention paid to the presentation, the service, the drinks, the whole experience is mediocre at best. On a recent night out, we were even told by the hostess that the server had a bad week, so we should be careful how we acted with him. While I do not in any way expect my server to entertain me, I do expect them to be civil, and to stay home if they can't be. The restaurant was almost emtpy at 10:00 p.m. on a Saturday night. It won't be there much longer, but it's not because Ballard can't handle fine dining. Cons: surly service, careless preparation, slow service more

DISSAPOINTED 9/4/2002

salsashark Provided by Partner
After hearing soo many compliments about this local restaurant, I felt I had to give it a try. Well it took for ever to get some service, the drinks were slow, the server(who happened to be the owner) was forgetful, and then the food was was very bland and uninspiring. I don't know what all the hype was about, maybe people that dine here have never been anywhere else before!? Pros: location, late hours Cons: service, food more

Belltown without the parking hassles! 6/16/2002

pamboustead Provided by Partner
My husband and I frequently have dinner out but many times stay away from the Belltown/Downtown area due to the parking hassles. How nice to have a great restaurant that has the same quality of food and great atmosphere that a downtown restaurant has, and even has free parking in the lot behind the restaurant! We both enjoyed our meals (he had meat and I had seafood) and will definitely come back again! Pros: Great atmosphere, Easy parking, Good menu variety more
