Worst customer service experience of my life 8/31/2010

Star Pizza on Harvard St gave me the wrong pizza. I realized it when I got home and they offered to send the correct one right away. I waited for over an hour and ate some of the slices from the wrong pizza thinking they weren't going to show up with the new one. The driver eventually came and even asked for the old pizza back. Later I received a phone call from the owner who was very abrasive. He claimed I ordered the wrong pizza on purpose and after I told him that was incorrect, he argued with me and contended that I was there to scam him out of a pizza {I have a well-paying career--I don't need to scam a pizza parlor out of $13}. I told him it was unprofessional to accuse good customers of scamming and that he was losing a lot of money from this behavior since I planned to tell everyone I knew. He escalated to yelling and I told him I was recording the call (which I was) hoping that he would then calm down. His response was ""I don't care if you're recording. I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE"" which I took as a threat and ended the call. Some people may have had a great experience at this restaurant but mine was absolutely horrific and I do NOT recommend this place to anyone. more

Truly a star of a pizza 3/31/2010

Everyone has their favorite pizza joint. Like with football teams, each and every person has their particular favorite and will defend it with a zealotry usually reserved for religion. Nevertheless, I have never taken anyone to star pizza that hasn't raved about it afterward. It is the great equalizer. When you do go, you have to order a Chicago deep-dish style pizza. Most of us are used to the NY style, but the deep crust with heaps of cheese, sauce, and condiments is the stuff that dreams are made of. My personal favorite is the Marilyn's and it just blows my mind every time I get it. It's like being in love. Every time I have it, it just gets better. While certainly pricier than your usual Domino's/huge deliver chain, as soon as you sink your lucky teeth into the beautifully hand crafted pies, you realize where those extra 5-6 dollars went. If you live within delivery range, you really have no business ordering from anywhere else, you are doing yourself a great disservice. To top it off, eating at any of their two locations is always a hoot, it's fun to sit back and people watch, their clientele tends to fall to the ""interesting"" crowd. So just trust me on this one, you cannot go wrong with a deep dish, and you can even order a wheat crust to boot! more

Yummy Pizza! 1/5/2010

We like to call in advance so our pizza will be almost ready when we arrive. That way it's warm and gooey, and we don't have to wait too long. It's torture to sit in the dining room for 30 minutes when you're really hungry. Pros: Quality Ingredients Cons: Kitchen can be slow @ peak hours more

Quite possibly the best pizza place in Houston 12/13/2009

If you are tired of chain restaurant pizza, or buffet pizza places with hundreds of screaming kids, then this is the place to go. The whole wheat crusts are something to be experienced. The Chicago-style deep dish is a favorite, even the veggie pies beat chain restaurant pizza any day.The pizza is made fresh. The service is friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. No loud music or televisions here, its a very relaxing atmosphere. Its a required weekend destination for me. I only wish they had a larger selection of pastas, this place would be unstoppable if they sold fresh pasta dishes. Pros: Fresh ingredients, clean, quiet, good service Cons: wish they had more pasta more

Great Food, Cruddy delivery service 9/12/2009

Why am I the one putting Star out by ordering a pizza for delivery? I eat there enough and they are always rude on the phone. I actually get scared to call them because I know it will be unpleasent to talk with them. Pros: Food Cons: People answering the phones and delivery personnel more

I don't know what's going on with these other reviews, but... 1/2/2009

I have had nothing but good experiences with Star Pizza in the Heights. We order delivery pizza from them probably once a week and it is always hot and delicious. The one time we had any problem (the driver hadn't shown after an hour and ten minutes) a quick call back to the restaurant and our meal was on the house (note: I did not demand this, it was simply offered by the courteous manager). Pros: amazing whole wheat crust, loads of fresh and delicious toppings Cons: takes longer than pizza chain delivery, a bit more expensive than pizza chain as well... more

Looking Forward to Prison Food 11/6/2008

Terribly disappointing. I never ate such lousy food. Being from Venezuela, I've come to expect that from Houston restaurants. I spent my last $10 to eat this garbage. It was my last meal as a free ""man."" Now I have to serve my lenghy prison sentence, always remembering what a lousy, last night I experienced. more

Fresh ingredients? Nope. 7/8/2008

This was my first time at Star Pizza in the heights. The pizza was inedible! My brother and I ordered the same: chicken alfredo. After the wait, my order arrived wrong (I had requested avocado). I told the waitress and she replies ""oh s***! I forgot that."" Everything would have been fine after that, but both my brother and I ate a slice and we were disgusted with the chicken. I have no idea how it was seasoned, but it was *completely* over-seasoned and overwhelmed everything else on the pizza. My friend eating with us, who had luckily ordered a different pizza, remarked that the chicken looked exactly like Tyson Chicken that you buy in pouches at the supermarket. I've always had good pizza at the location on Norfolk, and from now on, that's where I will go! more

Disappointing this time. 6/7/2008

Well tonight was the first night I?ve ever been disappointed with this food. We?ve been ordering for some time now for home delivery. Pros: Has been good in the past Cons: Awful tonight. Frozen items, mushy veggies, salad not good. more

save your money, save the disappointment 1/20/2008

The pizza I had delivered last night from Star Pizza in the Heights was DIS-GUS-TING and pretty much inedible. What was wrong with it? Well the main problem was WAAAAAAAAY too much cheese. That caused other problems as well. For example, New York style crust is supposed to be crispy!! This crust was the total opposite of crispy. It was doughy and moist and the pieces totally fell apart when we removed them from the box. Additionally, because of the inch-thick layer of rubbery cheese, by the time I received the pizza, much of the cheese had already slid off the top of the pizza, taking most of the toppings with it and coming to rest stuck to a corner of the cardboard box. All in all, it was one of the most disgusting pizzas I have ever had in my life. The only part that I could bring myself to eat was the crust. If I could do the night over again I would have saved some money and gotten a way more edible frozen pizza or Papa Johns more

TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING!... Star on Washington gets TWO BIG THUMBS DOWN LATELY 12/30/2007

The last time our group went to Star for what used to be our Sunday afternoon tradition we hoped it would be better than the previous few times.... Considering we had bad service and inconsistently prepared food the previous two times we went, we had an idea what to expect, but had our hopes up. We used to love the pizza and and unpretentious/earthy waitpersons that gave it an edgy and funky feel. This last time we went (and I do mean LAST), the service was annoyingly slow, and the young, brunette waitress had the attitude that she could care less that we were waiting 25 minutes to get our salads... Then while waiting, flagging down a service person to get ice tea refills meant walking into the other room and finding a busboy who could track down our (Any!) waitperson. When the pizza finally arrived it was both cold and under-cooked (WTF??!)... We had also ordered extra-sauce on the pizza, which our disinterested waitress forgot to put on the order ticket.... For all this, no apologies from the waitstaff after we complained. No visit or follow-up from the manager or apology from the kitchen staff, even after we told them this was probably one of the worst (if not THE worst) experiences we had ever had at Star. We also told them that over the last year both the service and food inconsistencies had dragged this place down. Previous times, we had wrong orders come out, cold pizza, cheese and crusts that were doughy & uncooked, then recooked, and STILL uncooked, and numerous issues with the ambivalent or rude waitstaff. Mind you, we gave this place chance after chance, because honestly, my girlfriends and I used to love it. So, in spite of our consistent patronage, obviously Star's management (if they even have any) doesn't care about pleasing repeat customers. It's a shame because it once was a great place... Star on Washington does not care about its reputation even more than it does not care about your experience....This place is now officially a loser in my book. Pros: The table-top Ms Pacman game Cons: Inconsistent food... Ambivalent waitstaff... Lack of any real management more

best pizza 7/30/2007

The best pizza in houston!!! They have excellent service and great pizza. They also deliver promply! more

best pizza 10/27/2006

Whenever you crave pizza there is no place like Star Pizza. It is always busy so, we call our order ahead and dine-in. It is always delicious and we usually eat the entire pie. more

Downhill 10/12/2006

The pizza here can be good, but it is not worth the wait or the waitstaff. Lots of tension in the air, all the servers are surly. Zero attention to detail and irritated if asked to refill tea or bring ENOUGH plates or extra napkins. Practically slammed our salads on the table while passing by. Never asked if everything was okay (probably knew they didn't want to hear the answer), held us hostage waiting for the bill long after we had all finished eating. Our family was out for a fun Friday and this experience put a damper on the evening. When this horrid memory fades, I may be willing to try take-out, but will probably just drive a little further to Romano's. Pros: occasionally good pizza Cons: surly servers more

Great tasting 5/28/2006

Though there are vew bad reviews but there is plenty of good ones. Those who don't know what REAL pizza is should make a trip to the East coast or even to EUROPE to find out or an authentic pizzeria. There is a huge difference in the taste and flavors and ingredients, we call Domino's Pizza Hut, Papa John's etc, pizza but this is a true pizza place! Star Pizza does a great job of a close comparison to ones I have eaten in Italy. Yum!! more

This is Pizza? 2/10/2006

Until I ate at Star Pizza, I had a saying; ""I've only met good and better pizza."" Now I've met bad pizza. No pizza sauce! Pros: Garlic Cheese Bread, I didn't get sick Cons: No pizza sauce, Waitress was full of, of EXCUSES. more

Great Pizza Joint.. 11/20/2005

Ill just list the points that made it one of my boyfriends and mine favorite pizza joints: Personality (definitely not your Pizza Hut or Dominos), home-made pizza sauce, awesome deep dish, can pick your own dough (highly recommend wheat), not too greasy (like some other places mentioned above), and you can have generous amount of fresh basil (upon request) sprinkled all over your pizza. Energetic staff, and very nice deck (love outside seating) make the meal even more pleasurable This place will always bring the sweetest memories. Pros: fresh homemade produc, outside sitting, awesome side ingredie Cons: n/a more

Getting Skimpy. 8/15/2005

I love the pizza and I used to love the Caesar Salads; but no more. I ordered a large chicken Caesar salad and was mad when I got home and found one piece of chicken and one container of the (fabulous) Caesar dressing. THAT'S WHAT A SMALL HAS. So I paid $9.20 for extra lettuce. Thanks Star, I guess I needed the fiber. more
