A Gay Chicago mainstay 11/24/2007

Sidetrack has really grown up. The bar is huge nowadays and many of the bartenders have been there for what seems like forever. For good reason...they're probably the friendliest group of bartenders at any gay bar in America of this size. The drinks are poured right too. The bar is a stand-and-model type but with the right friends can be quite fun. For me, it's a walk down memory lane, as I get to see the same old acquaintances from my days in Chicago as I did when I lived there. Sidetrack has the right formula and hopefully will for a long time to come. Pros: Valet is available if you have to drive Cons: Crowd can be a bit aloof sometimes more

Great Bar! RUDE Bartender!!! 8/30/2006

Is one of the best gay bars in Chicago. The problem is that one of the Bartenders is very rude. I don't know his name because they don't have a name tags. Totally necesary!!!!! But I will come back with a lot of plesure to tell you guys. He threw a dollar at my face after I asked for a cup of water. Pros: MUSIC VIDEOS, CUTE GUYS. Cons: BARTENDERS, DOOR GUYS, DRINKS more

On a Sunday afternoon this place was packed. It must be the place to meet. Even with crowds so thick that it was hard to navigate the multitude of bars made it easy to get a drink. The rooftop was the fastest. Went pack on a weekday, still a large and varied crowd. Then the decor and ambience could be enjoyed and it is one of the nicest bars (gay or straight), I have ever been to. The drinks cost a little less than the neighboring places, the barstaff more friendly and served in nice glassware (during the week). Well worth the visit. Fantastic!!! 6/5/2004

The best bar ever!!! The new lounge area is comfortable and very attractive with lighting that changes colors about every 15 mins. or so. The brand new rooftop deck is not to be missed!!! It boasts a new inside bar (with video monitors, of course), with an outside service window and another service bar as well. The large, two-level outside deck has planters with flowers and trees. Add all that to the other beautiful, clean bar areas - throw in fast, friendly service, good drinks, and the best job done showing videos anywhere - and you have Sidetrack!!! I can only imagine what they will do with the space they have purchased next door (south). I'm sure it will be amazing!!! I believe that expansion will make their facility one-half of the block!!! Best Gay Social Place in the Country 12/29/2002

Not your average gay bar. Sidetrack in Chucago is like NOTHING you have been to. I've traveled the country and this place is the model for profesional gay men to visit. If you want sleeze, go to an Eagle, or Manhole. Dancing, check out Backstreets in Atlanta. Sidetracks is for the gay professionals. more

This bar is not like a lot of the gay bars. You don't feel like you're in a meat market. Everyone that you meet is just there for a relaxing good time. Pros: Relaxing, Entertainment, Great service more

Definitely a fun bar with a big mix of people. The drinks are really good w/ enough liquor but highly priced. The crowd is fun loving all night pretty much that I've been, and they mix their weeknights with fun stuff like showtune and comedy nights. The crowd is alot older so that makes it less popular with the young guys. But why not stop in for atleast a drink since there's no cover any night =) Pros: Good drinks, Plenty of space, Nice environment Cons: Older crowd, Expensive, No dancing more

Since moving to Chicago in summer 2002, I have not missed a Monday nite.. The showtune nite is wonderful with a bar full of people singing our favorite songs. Thursday for comedy is a nice way to unwind after a hard day at work also. Great job guys! more

I lived in Chicago my whole life before moving away to MO. Just thinking of Sidetracks makes me totally homesick, and I make several trips back to Chgo with a stop to Sidetracks at the top of my to-do list ! NO drama, NO attitude, just fun and great drinks and videos. I MISS YOU ! ! ! Pros: friendliness, barbacks :), videos Cons: parking :( more

Sidetrack is one of this country's best gay bars in that it is welcoming to all types of people. No age or sex discrimination here. They have a wide open floor plan with plenty of space including an outdoor patio in the front, perfect for watching people walk by on Halsted. Each night features a different type of video entertainment ranging from comedy night to retro and showtune nights. Great for large groups you can chat or choose to watch and share the fun on one of the many screens they have. This place rocks and there's a scene but it's not pretentious in the last. Pros: Plenty of space, Kept very clean, Amazing videos Cons: Drinks are costly more

Chill out & drink 7/3/2002

I go to Cocktail when I want a great martini & to just hang out- not talk, not play pool, not dance. Good place to watch the crowd, especially in the back by the (too small) dance floor. The dancers (and their fans) also lend some entertainment value. And, you can't beat their Halsted windows for people-watching. Try the Chocolate Martini- 2 different types(!) or Cosmo. Oh, and the bartenders have always been great. I've never had a bad time here. Pros: Great Martinis, Interesting crowd, Good atmosphere Cons: NO parking, Pricey drinks more

I never quite put my finger on if I loved or hated Sidetrack. The bartenders were great, the crowd, totally unpredictable. It's hard to know what to expect here. more
