Good Place to Chill 11/14/2011

I've visited the Westheimer location of Sherlock's (original store in the chain) a number of times over the years. This location has an interesting mix of clientele, including people from different parts of the world (e.g., UK, Ireland, Scotland, Germany) who are in town on business/for conferences and are staying at one of the large hotels in the adjacent Westchase area. The crowd is also more age diverse than you would likely find at many Houston bars. The racial/ethnic composition of the crowds I've observed is also fairly diverse, to the extent that (IMO) anyone could go there and feel comfortable within the crowd - it is not a ""_____"" club or anything, all groups are represented fairly well to the extent that no one would likely feel that 'this place isn't for me' based on demographic factors. That being said, there is a dress code that prohibits 'gangsta'-type clothing, whatever that means these days... There is never a cover charge except on New Year's Eve. There is live music every night except for karaoke on Sunday nights. The bands can _really_ be hit or miss for me, so I recommend going online to see who's playing on a particular night and finding out what you can about the group before going. The bar does have servers, but when it's crowded (Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays) you're going to be better off buying your drinks at the bar. Also be prepared for a very crowded situation especially on Fridays and Saturdays. The bar staff is typically very good and friendly. I know several of them personally and many of the staff are sort of like family with each other and 'have each other's backs', so if a customer gets disrespectful and belligerent to the point of causing a serious problem, the doormen will be escorting that person to the parking lot (and 'out of their house'), firmly but nicely ('until it's time to maybe not be so nice'). Oh, and there are HPD officers on-site during the Friday and Saturday evenings as an extra measure of security if someone just can't have a good time without causing some trouble :-0 Drink prices are very reasonable compared to a lot of other places that I've been. Although several of the other Sherlock's/Baker St. Pubs in the chain feature a regular food menu, this location does not. Sherlock's is not an ""ambiance"" bar (a place to feel special, elegant, or part of the pretty crowd). If you want that, you'll probably have to go inside the loop especially if you're younger and looking for the 'bar with the one trendy name' kind of vibe. It's more of a no-frills 'get your drink on' kind of place. Pros: Low-key, relaxed atmosphere, decent drink prices, good staff, non-pretentious crowd Cons: Gets very crowded on virtually all weekend nights, sometimes hard to get a drink due to patrons crowding at the bar for service, and uggghhh.....bathroom attendants more

Not a bad place if you catch the right night 5/20/2011

Let me first state, I have been to the place more than once. If you are looking for a place to chill without the midtown dance club vibe, this it it. \r \r The place can be hit or miss depending on the band performing that night. Some nights are great, some are not so great. This past time a band called Cold Shot was playing. GREAT TIME. Band played great music, put on a great show. \r \r Wait staff is ok...I typically just go to the bar. It's usually faster and easier. \r \r I recommend giving the place a try if you have never been. Check the band schedule before you go though and maybe call ahead and ask the bar. Cold Shot I would recommend. more

Not an older crowd at all! Worst experience. 3/24/2011

On march 17.2011 for St. Patricks day. The service was horrible, crowd was huge and they make alot of $ so hire temporary help. Took atleast 45min to get a beer, not enough servers. We couldnt even get back in bar to close tabs cause the fire marshall said ht was to crowded so they lied to people stating the event was over just to gaet rid of people. Really unorganized. On top of that the vallet lost my car keys. Gets better the vallet guys were giving car keys to random drunk people with out tickets. If you like be around ignorant drunks then this is the place. They dont no the policy of stop serving a drunk. more

GREAT PLACE TO HAVE FUN 5/2/2009

I went there for my girlfriends b-day.Are waitress name was kim.She wa great. She knew what she was talking about. She was friendly/easy to talk too.She make you feel like your family. She also brings your drinks fast.So if you go down there look for kim.She short /blonde hair/skinny and very nice. You have to let her wait on you.You will not regret it. Pros: FRIENDLY/LAYBACK/GOOD MUSIC/GOOD DRINKS Cons: NO PARKING/ more

Good After-Work Spot. Older Crowd 7/28/2008

This bar is part of the bigger chain of Sherlock Pub Company. It is my least favorite Sherlocks mostly because it is usually an older crowd (aka creepy old men...no offense). This is because it is displaced from the liveliness of the greater metro area. If you are younger, try out one of the other several locations. The bands are always good. They rotate between all of the spots. If I am meeting a friend in the area, I don't mind stopping by for a few drinks. The drink specials are always good. more

My new hangout 3/18/2008

I am new to town and have been looking for a new spot to be my regular hangout and I have found it!!! This place was great! The bands are great! I couldnt believe that they didnt charge a cover. It so big and spacious with plenty of bartenders so that its is never difficult to get a refill! I love it!!! more

Horrible 2/22/2008

Please don't bother. This company as a whole has the worst management. You could die of thirst before you get waited on. I have given this bar multiple shots over the last 5 years and it has never improved. They are always understaffed. Furthermore, the band plays extremely loud. Can you give negative stars? Pros: The roof doesn't leak Cons: Everything more

Ehh, there's better 11/13/2006

It is EXTREMLY LOUD with the live music. The place gets over-crowded in a hurry and it is tough to get service. It is a much better place when you go with a group and there is not a band playing. Small place that gets packed. Seek other venues. more

RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL 6/1/2006

i will never go back here again. the staff is extremely rude and unprofessional and the management didnt seem to care. with so many good bars in houston, there is absolutely no reason to put up with that. go somewhere else for a good drink and good treatment Cons: unprofessional, rude more

Canuck's review, eh? 5/18/2006

Hi there! I'm a regular 'ahole in the corner', but do not live in Houston anymore. When I visit, I land at the airport, get my rental and drive immediately to Sherlock's Westheimer. If none of my friends are off work yet, the bartenders and managers make me feel like I'm back 'home'. I spend every night at Sherlock's while I'm visiting. All the staff calls me by name, asks me how things are going in 'The Great White North' etc. I love it there and my 2 bestfriends love it their too. It our best way to relax and have fun. Pros: Rat Ranch , Managers, Waitstaff Cons: None , None , None more

It's Home 5/13/2006

I've met all my best friends there. Atmosphere is great for watching the game, hanging out with friends and having a beer. The waitstaff knows regulars by name and usually has your drink waiting for you at the bar as soon as they see you walk in. It's a landmark bar which has been there for a long time and things will break down and I imagine it takes a while to get an HVAC technician there to fix things. Shut up and drink Bandcamp and stop biting the hand that feeds ya. Who's the next pitcher on?! I don't ever want to go anywhere else! The Corner Pros: Great Management, Great Waitstaff, It's Home Cons: Bitchy Customers, Longhorn Fans, Texas is Hot more

Past their prime 5/12/2006

You know how a place gets popular and then they don't care about service and their customers because they think their place will always be full? Happens all the time. But then people get annoyed with the decrease in service and the increase in attitude and find somewhere else to go. Find somewhere else to go. Cons: attitude more

NO A/C???!!! 5/11/2006

The A/C is broken! This bar is always packed and they can't afford to have the A/C fixed in a timely manner? Give me a break. Go anywhere else. Cons: No A/C more

Wont go back there again !! 8/26/2004

The wait staff at Sherlocks was rude...no one came to take an order for 45 mins. The manager was stand offish and rude. The drinks were warm. Top it all...we had to go to the bar and get our refills...no wait staff came to check...even though she got a hefty tip. Ashtrays not emptied. On the whole...bad bad experience. more

Fun place, great atmosphere 2/12/2003

This place is not a dance club, and that is what I like about it. You get the atmosphere of a club, meets atmosphere of a local hang-out bar. I would recommend the place! Bar tenders and all other staff were really friendly as well. Pros: Good Parking, Great atmosphere, Really fun place! Cons: Really Crowded, Bar was pricey more

Just in CASE! 1/31/2003

SHERLOCK'S BAKER ST. PUB IS PROBABLY THE BEST PUB, BAR, HAPPY HOUR , LIVE ENTERTAINMENT VENUE IN TOWN. YOU CAN'T BEAT ALL THE GREAT DRINK SPECIALS AND FUN ATMOSPHERE. THE SERVICE IS GREAT AND AND THEY NEVER CHARGE A COVER. ENOUGH SAID!! Pros: LIVE MUSIC, HAPPY HOURS, CROWED more

Just About everyone... 12/13/2002

seems to gather there...eclectic clientele. Plenty to eat on the buffet table more

Great Place! Nuf said. 12/6/2002

Never changes year after year. Young crowd always thinks its new. Those of us 30 and over have been coming for awhile. Live music rocks. Easy atmosphere. Always have a great time. Pros: Inexpensive, Neighborhood Feeling, Great Live Bands Cons: Parking, too many steps more

the place 11/30/2002

the bar has a good crowed after 11, its a geat place to hang out during the week Pros: great staff, good parking, love the mangment Cons: the corner more

Don't let the Spanish-looking exterior fool you--this is no bright, sunny bar with a Latin theme. The large lower level of Sherlock's has the look and feel of a grungy biker...
