Best

We sat at the sushi bar so that we could watch the food be made, and the chef was incredibly nice and even gave us a free sample of a seafood salad. Our glasses were never empty, ...

Worst

After how rude the hostess was to my friends and me, that is enough to never want to return to this place. She was absolutely snide to everyone that came through that door--where ...

Great for fish and friends 9/15/2005

Went here the other night with another couple. We were there for a couple of hours and avg price w/o tip was 40... this was with mult sushi orders, miso, gyoza, box sake for all, and beer. Was given free dessert for my birthday but they were out of the mango mousse. You must try the Denver roll *drool* Cons: TVs more

Awesome!!! 4/25/2005

After trying numerous sushi restaurants around Denver, Japon is by far my favorite. Their seafood is always fresh and their appetizers are amazing. During their peak hours it can be somewhat difficult to get a table, but it's well worth the wait. Definitely give their Shrimp Dynamite and Seared Tuna a try. Pros: great food, reasonably priced more

One of the better places 3/19/2005

Japon is definately a restaurant worth going to! The sushi is good, and they have a nice variety of entrees. If you go during lunch, they usually have a good selection for the daily specials. The service hasn't let us down(yet), so you will probably catch us their often! Pros: Good Service, Nice Variety, Great Value Cons: Small restaurant more

My Fav Place 5/15/2004

I LOVE Japon. The food is great - try the Diablo Roll - with regular seared tuna and the Magic Mushrooms as an appetizer. I'm so hooked that I go about once a week just for the Diablo Roll. When my family is in town from Rhode Island, their first question is, ""Can we go to Japon?"" They have a great staff, wonderful food, and fun location. Japon is by far my favorite Denver restaurant. Pros: diablo roll, great chefs more

yo soy Japonese 12/31/2003

What a shame when one of the worst Japanese restaurants (Sonoda's) gets rated higher than Japon! I think its because more people have been to one of 4-5 Sonoda's locations vs. 1 main Denver location, and exceptionally good places like Sushi Tazu don't even make the peoples choice listing. So, I hope you definitely try Japon over Sonoda's, and you find your favorite, qualified, and experienced Sushi chef at Japon. You'll definitely have a good dining experience than. Pros: Sushi Chefs Cons: slow service, long wait times, small restaurant more

Japon 12/4/2003

The Place to go. This restaurant has always satisfied. The sushi is top notch and is alway served by pros'- authentic japanese sushi chefs. You absolutely can't go wrong here. Favorites are Purple Haze Saki and DC roll. I wish I had stock in this company....:) Kooch more

Do not waste your time or money 10/8/2003

Japon is great, if only they would get your order correct. Because of this I have stopped going to Japon. They have a roll, New Orleans, that on the menu says it comes with fresh sliced ginger and lemon. Yet, even when asked repeatedly, the sushi chefs refuse to put ginger and lemon in my New Orleans rolls. Even after talking with the manager, they still got my order wrong. Ingrediants they list on the menu are not in the roll. That blows my mind and to me equals horrible service and no need to go there anymore. Besides Sushi Den will make any roll you ask for and they are fresher. Pros: Unique dishes, New Orleans Roll, Fun Cons: Bad Customer Service, Small, Bad management more

Hostess was horrible! 9/19/2003

After how rude the hostess was to my friends and me, that is enough to never want to return to this place. She was absolutely snide to everyone that came through that door--where are we? Is there a red carpet outside? Snot. Not to mention there were stains on the walls next to our table (sushi splatter) and the food wasn't as good as it used to be...my spicy tuna roll tasted just wrong. I'd rather stick to Tommy's or Sushi Den. Pros: romantic, cheaper, location Cons: rude hostess, dirty, long wait more

Second best in Denver! 12/16/2002

I've always had a very pleasant experience at Japon. Fish is good, menu has some good surprises. Nice sushi bar. Good for couples, small groups, and even kids. For fish/value it's much better than the Den, and it's less crowded. I recommend this place highly, and it's only number 2 because number 1 (see my other reviews) stunned me with such a great experience. Pros: Sushi bar, Menu items more

Don't judge a book by its cover 12/14/2002

Wonderful place once you find parking. It is a great if not an excellent option from Sushi Den for those who appreciate Japanese cuisine but don't always have the bucks to dish out for it. The place is tucked away and may not look much in front but great ambience inside. They really did a wonderful job with the decor. The sushi is excellent and they have great values such as their bento boxes which cater to those who want everything. Great choices and wonderful service. Pros: great value, excellent quality, fast service Cons: parking, smaller venue more

Forget Sushi Den 11/30/2002

Japon is the place to go if you want sushi. If you want to flirt in a trendy place then go to Sushi Den where the sushi is not bad but not the freshest in town. Japon offers the best sushi and non-corporate friendly service to their guests. more

Sushi Supreme! 11/14/2002

I have frequented Japon dozens of times, and have never been disappointed. Excellent chefs, great atmosphere, and superb sushi without the ""yuppie"" hype and stigma. I recommend it! Pros: Excellent food, Great atmosphere, Good value Cons: Parking can be tough more

Best sushi 11/12/2002

I know we have quite a sushi competition going on here in Denver. However, Japon remains the best on the list. The sushi is the freshest and flavorful. Great service and a great regular Japanese food menu as well. more

Old rice -- one of the criitcal componen 10/13/2002

Liked their salads and sushi in general, but the rice was old (dry and yellow) and they did not seem to care even when I pointed it out. more

Great Hideaway 9/14/2002

Great sushi and service, always pleasant and very cozy, great area in Wash Park area more

Predictably Pleasant 8/23/2002

Very close to another sushi place, but much cheaper and generally just as tasty. The atmosphere is a bit cheasy and closterphobic, but the sushi is always cold and fresh. In over 20 visits, I have yet to have a bad serving of sushi. Pros: Price, Taste Cons: Atmosphere more

Lively Atmosphere 8/20/2002

Very good sushi, very happening place. Definitely valet your car since you're bound to get a ticket if you park anywhere on a busy night...Stop by for ice cream next door afterwards. Good date spot. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Long Waits more

Sushi was terrible. 5/30/2002

First of all, let me tell you that I am Japanese, and I know about sushi much better than Americans. Well, I've heard this restaurant offers good and fresh sushi. That's all incorrect information.. This was the worst sushi restaurant I have ever eaten in Denver at this price. I DO NOT recomend this restaurant at all. Cons: Unfresh Sushi, Expensive more
