Great, but expensive. 11/30/2005

I was really excited when I first stepped into this place. They don't make stores like this anymore. That sweet smell of old books hits you, and the sounds of creaky wooden floors overwhelms you. This place is huge, stacked from floor-to-ceiling with old books and movie posters. But, sadly, the high prices hinder the special atmosphere. It's fun to browse, but not to buy, unless you're desperate. more

Reed Books, subtitled the "Museum of Fond Memories," is a most peculiar place. You walk upstairs into an non-air-conditioned space and find yourself wandering amidst an astounding array of pictures and photos, magazines and books, published and no-longer-published items. Old schoolbooks of the "Dick and Jane" variety sit alongside old Life magazines. This is a place to search through, the organization is loose, not strict. You will find some strange and miraculous gifts for others, sports and war memorabilia and old children's books are especially interesting here. more
