I love Subway...I find myself popping in this place every now and then to get myself an Italian BMT (yummy!). It's a better alternative to hamburger places. Their items are always fresh and the best thing about it is that you watch them make your food and you can customize it however you want. And they wear gloves! I love that.
Subway has a decent menu...and they usually have 2 different kinds of soup every day. The parking is OK, but kind of nutty because they have speed bumps within the spaces. There's usually a long line of people inside, so be patient and consider coming during a non-rush hour.

I drive by this place all the time while passing through Birmingham, but didn't ever have the chance to stop by until a few months ago.
El Cazador has a very cozy atmosphere; very laid-back and relaxed. It's a fair-sized restaurant with decent parking (although you may want to avoid it during lunch hour).
The food--from what I experienced--was very good. Everything is hot and fresh. Their fried ice-cream is also great! The service has always been good, every time I've been. The prices are decent, but average for a Mexican restaurant. Definitely one of the best places to go if you're in the mood for something spicy.

I went to Jenny Craig about 6 years ago. Granted, it could be a good place NOW, they burned me out on them to the point that I will never go back.
First of all, they make you buy their food. That is crazy expensive (if I can recall, all those years ago I was paying maybe $150-200 per week for just food). Their associates aren't the friendliest people in the world. When I went, the woman that was kind of like my "sponsor" was indifferent and a tad snobby. So were the other people working there.
There is no supportive atmosphere from my experience. Also, if you want your records for future reference, good luck trying to get them to help you dig them up. I called them a few weeks ago and they basically told me to shove off.
Jenny Craig could be the best diet center in the world, but my experience sucked, for lack of better terms. It's expensive and doesn't really do much to help you lose weight.

I'm not from Manchester, but visit there several times per year. When I visit, this is usually the supermarket that I go to. Located on South Willow, close to Newbury Comics, this is a great supermarket that offers fair prices and fresh produce.
It's fairly large for a supermarket, but easy to navigate and find what you're looking for. The people that work here are OK, but not overly friendly. There's plenty of parking, but it's not the funnest (yes I can make up words!) parking lot to drive around in.
If you're looking for a good place to buy groceries..this is a good choice.

Despite the fact that I used to live 3 minutes down the road, I had never been to this theater until a few days ago, and that was only because they were the only theater around showing "Running with Scissors".
I always had an impression that this was going to be a snooty, lame, expensive theater. I was wrong! From my experience, the people were very nice and the prices were very fair, especially on concessions.
This is a fun theater to visit, because it's so colorful! The decorum is very modern and fun to look at. And there are TONS of stalls in the bathrooms, which is a very good thing. There are 10 screens, and plenty of seats...which brings me to my one and only real complaint.
They boast on the website that there are 48 inches of leg room in front of each seat. Which is true, yes. BUT, that's only until someone sits down in the seat in front of you. The seats tend to automatically recline, kind of like airline seats, which is a bit annoying. It doesn't leave you (and the person behind you) very much leg room, in my opinion. But that may not bother anyone else.
All in all, this is a great theater. Very clean, and there is a parking deck next to it so parking is never a problem.

It's not a bar. It's not a club. It's not a conventional concert hall, either. You won't see Dave Matthews or Madonna play here. But you will see great indie bands like Broken Social Scene, Asobi Seksu, Rogue Wave, Boris, Elf Power, and other awesome under-the-mainstream-radar-but-still-not-quite-obscure bands. It's BottleTree, a unique venue where the traditional snore-bore decor is traded for kitsch and glitter.
This place is located on 3th Ave. South in downtown Birmingham, just a block or so away from Hancock Fabrics. It hasnโt been open for very long at all, and in fact, they donโt even have their liquor license yet (hopefully, this will change very soon), so itโs still BYOB. Tickets are cheap (typically $10-$12 each) and you can buy โem at the door or online. The people that run this place are great, and you can tell that theyโre really into all of the bands that come through the doors. Which is another thing--I am amazed at how this brand new venue has managed to get such impressive acts (many of which have never been to Birmingham before), especially considering that--letโs face it--Birmingham has never been a great city for indie shows.
Parking isnโt an issue, as they have a parking lot next to the building (a rare thing downtown). I suggest showing up a little early to ensure a space. Parking is free! Hopefully itโll stay that way.
Inside, there is a Central-Perk-esque area clad with comfy sofas and chairs in which to sit in case you wear yourself out dancing like a sugar-crazed maniac. Tons of music-related magazines to read. Fun! Itโs great just to sit and take in the atmosphere--whether it be to gaze at the glitter-covered mounted deer (which I usually hate, but, come on, itโs covered in glitter!) or to watch Pee-Weeโs Playhouse playing on the giant screen and/or small TVs hanging from the ceiling. Thereโs a great deck area on the side to go our and smoke or just to take a break from all the noise. But why would you do a think like that? The sound is great, and the stage is a bit small but they make do. There is a cute little bar (where they will hand you the chilled beer you brought, just until they get their liquor license) with comfy stools to sit in and watch the show, or you can be non-lazy and get up next to the stage.
I adore this place. Iโm planning on becoming a regular here, because they have great bands basically every day. In fact, I love this place so much that if I could, I would marry it. I know thatโs what Pee-Wee would tell me to do.

If you're sick of fast-food burgers, and gross frozen chicken patty sandwiches, then I suggest Chick-fil-A for your next lunch. They serve awesome chicken sandwiches, waffle fries, and milkshakes.
The prices are a little high for fast food, but actually it seems to me like the other fast food places have gone up on their prices so now it's basically the same amount. Also, the food has a superior quality.
The service is mega fast, and there's plenty of parking. I HIGHLY recommend going any other time than lunch--this place is *crazy* during the lunch hour.
**Although this has nothing to do with the food, I thought it would be important to mention something here that recently happened that soured my dining experience**
When I parked my car I noticed a homeless dog hanging out around the parking lot, not bothering anyone--he was VERY friendly, even little children were going up to it and petting it--I saw this high-school-age Chick-Fil-A employee yell and KICK THE DOG. There is no excuse for such behavior, especially when the dog was doing nothing but being friendly. I have a big problem with people acting like this, and it made me not want to go back to this establishment. So if you see this ever happen--PLEASE notify the manager. I do not want to go to a business that puts up with its employees abusing animals.
Otherwise, I do enjoy Chick-Fil-A's food.

I recently joined this gym for two reasons: I need to get my lazy bum in shape, and there really are no other gyms in Pell City. This is a great place located just off the Riverside exit of I20, and a straight shot from downtown Pell City.
Personally, I prefer to work out after hours, when all the big macho men and little stick women have gone home. Which is why I like this place so much; you can go whenever you want, 24/7.
There is something for everyone here--except for a pool, otherwise it would've gotten 5 stars--including treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, free weights, and TONS of different kinds of weight and specific-muscle-working machines.
There are 4 TVs, and always some kind of music playing (thank GOD it's never country). If you're the only one there, you can always turn it on whatever channel you want (tv or radio). There are also tons of places to park.
The gym offers personal trainers and workout programs, but I have yet to try them out. They also have tanning and a bunch of different types of supplements, if you're into that.
This is a decent gym, albeit a tad small. Great for Pell City (and also those love-handles)!

I recently visited this place for the first time to see a jazz show by a couple of my very talented friends. I wasn't expecting it to be so small (there are only a handful of tables and booths, and not really room for a 4-person band), but it makes up for it with coziness and that untouched-innocence of a non-Starbucks atmosphere.
Overall, the ambience is very relaxed and quiet, and there are even various home-made gifts you can buy (such as goat-milk soaps--which are reasonable-- and purses, which are crazy expensive!), so it's fun to just look around and take everything in.
However...as neat as this place is, it is rather expensive. Really. The food is very overpriced, and it's not spectacular. I would recommend visiting to maybe see a show, have some coffee, or a soda. It's not a great place to grab a meal.

I had never been to this theatre before recently; I actually used my AMC Theaters gift card I received from Judy's Book to go and see "Little Miss Sunshine" (an excellent film, but I'll save that for another review!).
Located conveniently in the Commons and next to parts of Emerson College (really close to the T), Loews is a little overwhelming at first, because it's so large. The first floor is where you buy tickets, and also there are a few screens & concessions there, but on the seconds floor is where most of the screens are located. They keep it very clean, but they don't really seem to have enough people working the ticket counters and concession stands.
The seats themselves (stadium-style), are VERY comfortable and spacious, which is always a great thing when it comes to movie theaters. I enjoyed my experience here, but I would recommend catching an early show to beat the high ticket prices at night. Otherwise, this place is great!
