Lucy is frequently present in her eponymous cafe, frequented by medical/nursing types at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The coffee is good, the tea is Republic of Tea, the desserts decent (not great) but the ambiance is eclectic, funky, receptive and low-key. It is a nice place to hang out and discuss your latest health research, the class you are failing. Parking is a disaster, so think of this as the place to walk to.

This is a great coffee house and cafe in Homewood, AL near Birmingham. Good service. Nice place to sit down and have coffee and talk or work. Down Home feel. They grind their own coffee so it always smells wonderful inside. Excellent

They have good coffee, their espresso based drinks are not as good as some other companies' , however the atmosphere and the regular coffee more than makes up for that. They have a children's corner with a TV and VCR and toys. They have a book section, where you can get a book, or trade a book on an honorary system basis. They have tables and overstuffed couches and coffee tables.
They have great black bean soup, but don't bother with the sandwiches (very light on the fillings). The lady who owns it is so sweet.
Parking - Spotty at best.
Service - Great
Food - So-So
Coffee - Excellent
Espresso - Just stick with the coffee.
Ambience - Perfect place to curl up with a book and a cup of coffee, or to meet with friends.

This place is located in the heart of Five Points South, and offers a great city atmosphere. Whether you're dropping by for a cup of coffee or your favorite magazine, this is a very nice little place to go. They have limited seating inside, but there are a few tables outside (watch out for the pigeons!). The prices are average for a coffee shop, but they have some great drinks that are well worth the price. Traffic and parking can be a bit tricky, so expect to pay the parking meter if you want to go here.

If you tire of the infinite lines at Starbucks, then this is a great place to go get your cup of coffee or biscotti. It's located on the first floor of the Galleria, in the food court next to Godiva (and, of course, directly across Starbucks). The coffee here usually isn't as strong as Starbucks coffee, which can either be good or bad depending on your taste. The prices are about the same, so basically it's a matter of which line is shorter. The guys and gals that work here are always very friendly, as well.

Their lattes are fabulous. They have a great selection of coffees, muffins, etc.
Most Joe Muggs are located within a bookstore, and some stand alone. Regardless of the location, Joe Muggs is a great place to meet with friends, look for a good book that has been recommended, or just a cup of Java, you will love it.
