As close to Italy as you can get without a plane. 12/1/2011

So amazingly good! I try to avoid gluten and this is my one and only splurge. Beautiful remodel and a real gem for Grand Ave. Both the pizza and the salads are outstanding. My favorite is the Mimi with fresh garlic rubbed onto that mouth watering crust with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. Love the casual and artistic environment. Great management as well. more

meh pizza, GREAT salad 11/12/2010

I used to be a huge fan of Punch but haven't been there the last few years. I don't know what they've done to the pizza but it's has gone downhill for sure. As has been said before, VERY mushy center and VERY burnt crust. The toppings were all good quality but the pizza overall was very disappointing. But the thing that saved the meal was the salad. I've never been a huge salad guy but knew that one pizza wouldn't be enough for the two of us so decided to get one. This was honestly the best salad I've had in my life BY FAR. It was the first salad on the menu, something like the punch salad or whatever. It was big enough to be a full meal. I strongly recommend getting this rather than the pizza, you will not be disappointed. more

Probably the BEST Pizza EVER! 10/26/2009

After reading an article in Delta's Sky Mag, my boyfriend and I decided we needed to make a trip to Punch Pizza. One lazy Sunday afternoon (yesterday), we decided it was the perfect day for it. We inform the server that it was our first visit and she was very helpful in explaining the menu and how things at Punch work. She told us that their pizzas are make approx 10 inches and couples will generally order a salad or Antipasti along with the pizza, if the plan is to share the pizza. We ordered the Artichoke Dip along with the Vesuvio pizza, both to share. The artichoke dip had EXCELLENT flavor and lots of big chunks of artichoke, something commonly missing from most restaurants version of this dish. I think our conversation went something like this: 'If this is any indication of what the pizza will be like... I have high hopes!' Once the pizza arrived we both dug right in! Slowly chewing and taking in all the flavors of this pie we exchange looks and decide we made a good decision. I make it to the crust, both our favorite part of a pizza, and take one bite and stop dead in my chewing... 'OMG, this is the BEST crust I've ever had!!!' I could have ate an entire pie of just this chewy deliciously burnt crust! I say burnt because their pizzas are baked for 90 seconds at 800 degrees in a wood-burning oven! You get blisters and patches of flavorful burnt spots - not at all a bad thing, if you know what you're getting into. We devoured the entire thing in minutes, and both left wanting to order another, just to keep eating! At the end, our server handed us the check along with 2 very yummy pieces of candy... again leaving our mouths full of happiness! We were also given a Punch card... where I believe the 7th Pizza is a free one (something tells me we'll be getting to that 7th in no time at all). Overall, I'm highly impressed with Punch Pizza and can't wait to go back and try another creation! The boyfriend, who I would say eats pizza more than anyone I know, said it was the best pizza he's ever had - so I think that's saying a lot. Now, how to get a location out in the Northwest Suburbs? Kudos, Punch Pizza - you know what you're doing for sure! Pros: great service, great food! Cons: No location in the Northwest Suburbs! more

Punchs is overrated 4/25/2009

Punchs has the idea that they can bake their pizza at 90 seconds at high heat. You know what that leads to? Burned crust with a mushy and raw middle to the pizza. They are very cheap with their toppings and leave at least a 2 inch gap between the edge and where the toppings start. Honestly, a totino's party pizza would have been infinately better. You such Punchs Pizza and it's a shame you refused to refund my money for shoddy pizza. Pros: Fast food environment Cons: Pricey; Terrible Food more

Nope 2/2/2009

I love pizza. Based on reviews we visited the Grand Ave. location on a balmy Saturday night in late January. Grand Ave. is a great location as we first had a few drinks at another local establishment and then wandered over for pizza. Place was full but a booth opened right after we had ordered. Salad was great but all four of our pizzas were weak. Crust was nice and crisp but a little too charred. Charred enough to seriously detract from the taste of the crust. Portions had to be set aside since I'm trying to cut back on my carbon intake. Another major complaint was the sauce. First there was very little of it, second it was tasteless. I expected a lot better than what I got. Why go here when you can get great pizza at the original Green Mill right down the street. Pros: Location (Grand Ave) Cons: Charred Crust, Sparse Tasteless Sauce more

Great place for a date 11/20/2008

Try the Tuscano and get a large salad to share because it comes with more bread. Pros: Good food, good atmosphere Cons: Small, Might have to wait for a table more

Crowd-pleasing Crust 5/19/2008

Mmmm, the crust is the foundation of a great pizza. The ingredients are fresh and the service is great. Pizza is usually a crowd pleaser, but here it goes above and beyond. more

mmmm...volcano pizza.... 6/14/2007

My sister and brother in law recommended this place while I was visiting last weekend, and we ordered takeout, so I have no feedback on the restaurant itself. However, the pizza was good. The menu (which I unfortunately didn't keep) states that the restaurant is ""one of the few"" pizzerias outside of Italy to receive an official stamp of approval from the Naples Pizza Police, so it must be good, right? Pros: great pizza Cons: high prices more

WOW! Exactly like I had in Italy! 5/9/2007

This stuff is awesome! Just like the litttle roadside places in Italy! The center is never 100% ""cooked"", but that is what makes it so great; all of the respective flavors join there and it tastes amazing. I love how two pizza's are never the same, you want to just keep eating to see what flavors you get next. And the pizza chefs are quite entertaining also. Overall GREAT! Pros: Amazing pizza Cons: Can get crowded more

BAD PIZZA 4/26/2007

I heard great reviews about this pizza joint. So I went one evening with my son and I was VERY disappointed. The crust was soggy and flavorless, the toppongs were few and far between, and the service was so-so considering the place was one-quarter full. I wll not return! Pros: Lots of parking Cons: The food more

a little overrated 3/30/2007

I was very excited to see a P. Neapolitan open in our area since I've seen all the good ratings on it, but I was disappointed when I went in to try it out. I'm not sure if my expectations were just too high at that point or if it just really isn't that great. I thought the pizza was okay. I liked the freshness of the basil on it, but the edge of the crust was burnt to a black crisp while the center was still a tiny bit doughy. And due to the high ceiling in the restaurant, it made for an extremely loud experience. Everything is all clustered into one small area from the line you wait in upon walking in the door, the order taking, the pizza making and baking and all the tables. Compared to other cities I've been in, I'm just not sure Minneapolis has one outstanding pizza place. Pros: fresh ingredients Cons: noise level more

Always a good experience 3/12/2007

Great Pizza. Highly recommend the call ahead seating. Parking is limited and so is seating, but you won't be dissapointed. Not tgood for groups...I wouldn't go with more than 6 people. Service is quick and the price is right. more

Wonderful food and people 4/19/2006

This was the closest to the great food I love from Italy. What a perfect treat for those special days with family or friends!! more

Great Food, Needs more space 2/5/2006

My husband and I went to Punch on a Friday night with another couple. The food was, undeniably, excellent. The salad was crispy and oh-so-tasty! The pizza was perfect. although if you are not a salami/prosciutto fan, you don't have other meats to select from. There is however a great a anchovy pizza. If somebody forced me to give one negative comment about this place it would be that it's too small. There was quite a crowd on a Friday night and hardly any place to wait. We had made a reservation but the table was way too close to the front door. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this place! Pros: Pizza!, Salad!, Food! Cons: Space, Tables too close more

I love Punch 1/2/2006

I lived in St. Paul for 3 years and work in the food business. Everytime I go back, the first restaurant I want to go to is Punch. I've raved to many friends about it in my hometown; a pizza town. I know of no other place to have a better, more authentic pizza experience. The atmosphere is always comfortable and they have some nice wines by the glass or bottle and beer by the bottle. Can't wait to come back again and again. Pros: The Food, The Food, The Food Cons: it's usually busy more

like no pizza you've ever had... 12/15/2005

frickin' amazing! we moved out of state & still crave this pizza & come back whenever we can. more

Why Go Anywhere Else 11/21/2005

The pizza is so good. It is one of my favorite places in the Twin Cities. When I lived in Highland Park, I would go there weekly. The salads are really good, and did I mention the pizza is awesome. The restaurant is small, so if you go on the weekends, you may be waiting outside, but its worth the wait. If you haven't been, what are you waiting for? Pros: Pizza, Food, Drinks Cons: Parking, Waiting more

The most authentic Italian pizza in St. Paul 11/1/2005

Punch Neapolitan Pizza will bring back delectable memories to anyone who has spent some time in Italy. Try the classic pizza Marinara with only tomato sauce, garlic and oregano or the Quattro Formaggi with mozzarella, fontina, ricotta and smoked mozzarella cheeses. If you like pizza without a red sauce, try the Cortina, pizza with mushroom, gorgonzola, sun-dried tomato, garlic, and oregano. I haven't gotten around to trying the tiramisu because I'm too busy eating the hot bread pudding with sliced pears and a cinnamon sauce. The soccer jerseys on the wait staff are the crowning touch to the restaurants air of whimsy. Pros: Fast Service Cons: Lack of seating, Dinner Rush more

Simply the best pizza around 6/23/2005

There's no pizza place around that even comes close to Punch. The service is friendly - they still let me order a pizza that was removed from the menu years ago. The salads are great. I particularly like the Punch salad. For dessert, skip the tiramisu and go with the gelato or bread pudding. Pros: Inexpensive, Pizza, Lively atmosphere Cons: Usually a wait, Parking, No reservations more
