Good but too many old drinkers 5/3/2010

You really can't beat the bar experience here when you are in that rare German mood. I don't really like the taste of German been when compared to Northwest Microbrews so I only go here for atmosphere. Pros: Best German experience of any pub in Seattle Cons: Too many old drinkers claiming a bar stool more

Fun place! 12/4/2008

Yeah, service on the weekend can be iffy.. but my friends and I love ""Da boot.."" lol Pros: Good place to unwind Cons: Inconsistent service more

Great beer, inconsistent service 12/12/2007

I have mixed feelings about this place. The beer is awesome and is the primary draw. The atmosphere is okay; the food fair but not great. The worst part is the service which is inconsistent. It just seems to be a mixed bag and usually the bartender is rude, non-conversational, cold, aloof and will ignore you if you let her. Occassionally there is a good bartender there who is friendly and service oriented. The owner should really do something to improve the service here. The odd thing is that Die Bierstube on Roosevelt, owned by the same guy, has much better service. More often than not the bartender at Prost has the unmistakable look of someone who would rather be elsewhere. But, as I mentioned, the beer is good! Pros: Good German Beer Cons: Very inconsistent and often very poor service more

Beware of the Saturday night bartender!!! 7/2/2007

Prost is one of our favorite mellow bars - a nice change from some of the loud, happening places in Seattle. My friends and I grabbed a table and went up to the bar in groups to order a beer. The bartender was so rude to each of us, we almost left. As members of our party came back to the table, we all had the same thing to say ""WOW, she was rude!"" She ignored half of the group while obviously helping anyone else she could. I asked ""which is the lightest beer"" and she rolled her eyes at me and walked away. I was shocked. She then came up to us and said ""did you make up your mind yet?"" never once did she smile, make eye contact, or try to help us in a professional way. It put a damper on the night and gave us a good reason to never go back on a Saturday night. Pros: Fun atmosphere and great beer Cons: Terrible service more

Be prepared to clean up after other patrons 5/7/2007

Besides the fact that on a Saturday night there appeared to be only one bartender, all was well, beer was good until someone as the bartender put it ""blew chunks"" in the men's room behind the toilet. The only reason I know this is because the bartender then took it upon herself to inform the group of people I was with in an accusatory manner and was quite insistent that it MUST have been someone in our group. (My guess is because we were the loudest.) She then provided rags and said that ""someone"" could clean it up. Knowing full WELL that no one in our group had committed the offense, one of our guys went ahead and commenced with clean up to keep the angry bartender away. I'm pretty sure that patrons are not supposed to handle the bodily fluids of other patrons be it a health code violation or even just a social yuck. We will not be returning for sure, there are other German bars with good beer, better service and a less likely chance that we will pay $7 for a beer and then be given disgusting clean up duty. more

Great german bier line-up. Recently remodeled with a great new bar. 3/22/2007

The new Prost is finally here. The great beer line up is the same as it was before. Classics and new classics like Spaten, Bitburger, Baron, Franziskaner, etc. The food is the same basic fair - brats, pretzels, etc. There are now awesome german pickles on the menu. The new bar is great. A huge piece of old timber is the entire bar - No More Pink counter top bar!!!. There is a new hard-wood floor and a fresh coat of paint. It is warmer and more inviting than before. The service is pretty good. Some new faces that are both good and bad. One server in particular is pretty vapid and slow. The other new servers I think their names are Jessica and Jimmy are great. Pros: Good beer. Good service Cons: Parking can be hard to find in the early evening. more

Strongest Beer in Town 8/28/2006

Hard day at work? This German girl suggests the Optimator. Sweet, dark and malty-- this well-sized brew really does the trick. Now that the smoking ban is in effect this bar presents the perfect spot to lazily lounge over a Bavarian-style pretzel with mustard while watching a game or catching up with old friends. Had a REALLY hard day at work? Just order the boot. Trust me, you'll thank me later. Pros: The Optimator Cons: Pricey Beers, average food more

User review by kodachrome 4/30/2006

PLEASE somebody lay off the heavy bleach in this place! We either have some obsessive compulsive owners or they just among the rare folk that like the bleach smell. It's not just a one time deal either, I've been in many times curious to see if it's got better. Especially with the smoking ban there is no need to go so crazy with bleach. Unless they take steps to ameliorate this olfactory roadblock the beer isn't enough to keep me going back. Pros: Great Beer, Great Mustard Cons: Bleach Smell, Amonia Smell, Teeny more

my favorite bar! 6/4/2004

My boyfriend and I absolutely love this bar and we rave to everyone we know about it. A great selection of beers although I wish they had the schneideweiss (sp?) more often. The first time we went there we didn't know which beers to try and the bartenders gave us several samples to taste! The smoked sausage and soft pretzel are pleasant to snack on as well. We always receive the best of service whenever we are here! Thank you Prost! Pros: Good Service, Neighborhood Bar, Atmosphere more

tough critics 1/14/2004

I had to respond to the last two reviews....I am a mug holder at Prost! and think that this is one of the best bars in Seattle. The $6.50 beer that the previous guy mentioned is for the Aventinus, a specialty Wheat Dopple bock that the only other place you can find it on tap is the Dog and Pony in Renton. This beer is awsome, and packs a punch at 8%. All the other beer is right in line at $4.25 for a half liter. This isn't some crappy micro brew we are talking about. All their beer is imported from Germany and served in their appropriate glass. I think everyone should just relax and enjoy Prost! for what it is. A great neighborhood German tavern with an owner who is doing his best to create a fun atmosphere. Prost! Keep up the good work! Pros: great beer, Good Bartenders, FUN atmosphere more

Awesome w/ Problems 1/12/2004

Prost!!! Cheers to drinking good Bavarian style beer but I agree with previous posters about a few problems: 1) Bartender does seem intent in chatting with friends and not serving 2) Smoke...........can anyone breath in this pit when its crowded? 3) Prices- well $6.50 for a beer? 4) Food- pork chop at $9.95 outrageous as you can buy the meat in the market for $2. All they do is warm it and its german food..........yuk!!!!!! 5) smelly glasses - maybe they wash the glasses with german detergent? some glasses have an odor. Well it a nic eneighborhood pub with good beer with a few management problems but that's what this sites all about letting Mr. Prost know we care! Pros: beer, small Cons: smoke, food, no happy hour ever! more

OUTSTANDING!!! 1/12/2003

Prost! is awesome! And the owner/bartender is an extreme hottie! Great beer, great food and an overall spectacular joint. More German beer please... more

German Pub hits zee schpot 12/26/2002

Most towns as big and diverse as Seattle already have something like Prost. Glad we finally got ours. It rocks. Killer German biers, served in the fancy traditional glassware. Menu is short and to the point, but it does the trick. Very friendly service. The owner is usually the one who pours your beer (hard to find these days). Great lighting, laid back, a couple of TV's. In a city of microbeer bars, it's great to have a real Euro-selection. Wanna go to Germany? Save your money and head over to Phinney Ridge. Pros: great beer, friendly staff more

Very cozy and friendly! 11/4/2002

Atmosphere is super warm and inviting. Bartenders really pay attention to their customers and made us welcome. Fantastic beer too! Can get a bit smoky and food is hit or miss, but we will definately go back for a beer...often! Pros: Beer, Atmosphere, Service Cons: Smokey, Limited Menu more

Keep TRYING !! 10/29/2002

you gotta be kidding a 10?- food was bland and this small place is smokey. German beer only reason to come and if you like bad service. Pros: german beer Cons: food + service more

Great Neighborhood Find! 10/16/2002

Good Times at PROST! 10/2/2002

PROST! is a cool new German style tavern on Phinney Ridge. They serve up great German beer in authentic fashion for a reasonable price. They also feature some tasty German food (check out the Currywurst!) and a wide variety of wines. Most importantly they seem to serve up a great atmoshphere: I've stopped by a number of times and I always leave with a smile! Check it out! Pros: Liters of beer!, Conversation friendly, Cool tables Cons: Can be crowded more

A fine neighborhood tavern! 9/30/2002

Finally a german tavern worth going to! With a fine selection of German beers and a friendly, knowledgeable staff Prost! is just what I was looking for in my neighborhood! The owner has made his mark on Phinney Ridge. Pros: Great atmosphere, Upscale German Tavern, Friendly service more
