Best Pizza I've ever had 10/11/2010

Last year my roommate and I came across this place completely by accident as he was craving fish taco's (a dish they serve in summer) and a quick google search told us that Picco's was one of the only places to serve them. After a quick walk to the south end we were surprised to find a pizza place. Unfortunately, they had stopped serving taco's for the year but we didn't want to leave empty handed so we tried the pizza. I could eat pizza every day forever and not get sick of it, and I can honestly say that this is the best pizza I have ever had. being that we are college student, we can't always afford it, but when we can it is one of the best meals we will have for a long time. Sooooo happy to have stumbled upon this place. more

Best South End Pizza 9/21/2010

Pizza and ice cream are my two vices so a place with both is an easy will with me. But the relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff don't hurt either! I always get the Alsatian: onions, shallots, garlic, crème fraiche, bacon and gruyere but get mushroom instead of bacon since I don't eat meat. YUM! In the summer they have very tasty lemonade too! more

balanced flavors, focussed menu, attentive service 1/1/2009

I cam in with a group of about 15 people. It was a thursday night at 10:00pm. The hostess was pretty rude, I am not sure if she was nervous about having such a large group there or if she is generally unfriendly to customers. After we were seated our drink orders were take. The waitress answered all our questions and had no problem splitting up the group and making 2 separate checks. The food did take a little while to come out of the kitchen but not too long. And it was worth it. I had the masterful hummus bruschetta, a little garden salad (maybe a tad over dressed as the other review mentioned but flavorful nonetheless) and the margherita pizza. The pizza crust was perfectly crispy and had a nice flavor. \r \r The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. I will definitely come back. There are some great choices on the beer and wine menu, too (La Fin Du Monde and raspberry Lambic). Pros: amiable server, reasonable prices Cons: the hostess more

Delicious 8/20/2008

This place has possibly the best pizza I've tried. Very good sauce and thin crust. Their other menu choices are good as well, especially their meatball/chicken parm sandwiches. I did find it strange that you have to order cheese as an extra for a calzone. Shouldn't cheese be included, and you just choose which one you like? You get to choose 3 stuffings for the calzone, and one of them is the cheese. So be aware that if you don't pick a cheese, you'll end up with bread full of whatever else you choose. Unfortunately, the service is very slow, but it is worth it. If you have time for a slow, relaxing dinner, go to Picco's. Their warm gingerbread and ice cream dessert is TO DIE FOR! Most delicious thing on the menu. The atmosphere is casual, and the outdoor seating is nice on summer nights. Prices aren't too bad, considering their personal pizza is large enough that I bring a doggy bag home. Enjoy! Pros: Great food Cons: Slow service more

Delicious pizza!!! 8/7/2008

My friend and I were in the area and wanted a nice place to eat, but didn't want to pay a fortune like most of the restaurants in the South End. We decided on Picco after reading reviews on CitySearch. It had a very cozy atmosphere. The Margherita pizza was delicious! We got a small which was perfect for two girls and a salad each (which was also tasty). The total came to $25, which I thought was a good price. We will definately return (I really want to try the ice cream next time)!! Pros: Decent prices, Cozy atmosphere more

funky, colorful, good food 4/6/2008

Overall very good--delicious appetizers and soups--arugula salad disappointing--service friendly and prompt--fun place to eat with artsy, homey ambience--will go there again and try other items--ice cream a must! Pros: ambience, food, service Cons: parking more

Great overpriced pizza 10/24/2007

This place is underneath where I live, so it doesn't get more convenient. However, the pizza is overpriced, but dilicious. It's a great place to go on a Saturday night after a movie. Pros: Great pizza Cons: Overpriced more

Really Good Food, Slow Service at Times 10/22/2007

I've been to Picco's numerous times. Each time, my experience has been about the same. The food is consistently very good. The pizza is probably the best bet (I recommend you tell Picco's to undercook it). The meatball sandwich is quite good...it has a little kick to it. If the crabcakes are on the Specials, definately grab it. I've never had a disappointing meal here (most of the time ""very good""...with an occasional ""fair""). Definitely save room for the ice cream. It is top notch. The restaurant itself has that old soda shop flair. Always clean. Staff is friendly. Eating outside is available when weather permits. Street Parking is tough however a parking garage is next door. The one aspect to be aware of...they can be slow. Both dining in & takeout can be on the sluggish side (especially during peak hours). Pros: Pizza, Meatball Sub, Ice Cream Cons: Slow at Peak Hours, Parking more

a picco regular 1/7/2006

i frequent picco, the food is always fresh with lots of flavor, i will admit that it takes awhile at times especially during busy lunch or evening hours, but the friendly waitstaff and bartenders always make the wait worth it. the menu is always changing but they have their classic constants. a good addition to the south end, its nice to see a neighborhood place where regulars are greeted by first name and servers actually have a personality rather than the bland fakeness of most other upscale dining places in the neighborhood. i give picco a thumbs up for creating a great place to eat! Pros: great waitstaff Cons: wait for food more

User review by pineapplegirl 9/19/2005

I've enjoyed pizza at Picco many times. Their salads were also quite nice. I had a great merlot the last time I was there. They seem to do a good job with their wine list, although it's rather small. I do agree with other users, however, that the service is terrible. Very, very slow. They are not rude or unfriendly, just SLOW. Beware if you go at lunch. You might be later than you expected getting back to the office. Pros: decent food, nice location, wine Cons: SLOW service, some items pricey more

I tried... 6/21/2005

Last night I tried Picco for the third time with a group of friends. The first two times I had been frustrated with poor service and just ""ok"" food, but as my friends had had good experiences there, I agreed to go again. I won't make the mistake again. Twice now, my tiny $8.95 salad (ridiculous!) was drowning in dressing- and I like a lot of dressing. The Margherita pizza is bland. The service is consistently horrendous (slow, specifically- since they are usually friendly). I really wanted to like the place. I've been waiting for YEARS for a good pizza place to come to the South End. Unfortunately, this isn't it. more

Service vs. Food 4/17/2005

Unfortnuately the service takes away from the consistently super food. From sandwiches to pizza to ice cream everything is great, but the waiting, the incorrect order taking and the tortise like speed to get your order detracts from the food. If they get a competent wait staff Picco would be another gem for the South End...until then it is just a frustrating dinning experience. Pros: Food Cons: Service more

Long Overdue 2/6/2005

Bon Appetit Magazine recently named Picco one of the 50 Hot restaurants in the America for a reason... amazing food prepared with great care for incredibly reasonable prices. Long needed in the South End. Pros: Inexpensive, Comfortable, Not too loud more

Great! 1/6/2005

The food my friend and I had was wonderful and complimented itself very well. Very relaxed cozy atmosphere too. As for the other comments here, I LOVED the desserts! The fudge and chocolate ice cream are made from high-end dark chocolates, and are any chocolate-lover's dream. My friend had an amazing chocolate souffle' And as for the comment on too many ice cream flavors, I wouldn't see that as a problem.... Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive, By Theaters more

New Spot, Clean but... 12/31/2004

Fairly new and still getting their kinks worked out so to say.... Pizzas are nice with thin crusts and generous toppings. Ice cream is made on premises (you can see the batch freezer in the back). On the day I was there, there were ice crystals in all the flavors, so I assume it was 2-5 days old and not fresh. I hear their specialty is ginger. They had too many flavors. Pros: Pizza, Clean, New Cons: , Ice Cream has crystal more

Great 12/21/2004

Great, up-scale food in a comfortable setting. It's not too loud, dark, or any of those other restaurant cliches. The Boston Globe raved about it, so I checked it out and wasn't disappointed. I've been there a few times, and everytime the staff or the owner are casually greeting people by name, so there are plenty of regulars, and I think that says a lot about an establishment. more

Fantastic 12/19/2004

I loved it. The food and ice cream were both excellent and the atmosphere and service were both great (the place itself is quite the sight). I think coming here is going to be habit forming. Very creative and flavorful dishes with a nice wine list to boot. more

ice cream lovers beware!!! 10/8/2004

being an ice cream lover, we were excited to try Picco - it had the cute look of a 50's soda shop... we thought it would be great... i didnt think it was possible to make bad hot fudge - but now i know it is - it was sour rather than rich and creamy. I am a chocolate ice cream lover - but Picco's was so bland and bitter that I just left it all in my dish. The vanilla malt ice cream had no malt flavor. In general the ice cream was icy rather then creamy. I cant say anything for the pizza and entrees since I only tried the ice cream. Picco may look nice on the exterior and be located in the South End, but that doesnt mean its good. Pros: out door seating more
