The Best Food and Service 11/9/2003

The food is amazing and is brought to the table quickly. The hosts and owners make you feel extremely welcome and remember you after only one visit. The ambience inside and outside is charming and inviting. The all vegetarian menu is great for anyone who loves wonderful Indian food and fantastic service. Pros: Excellent service, Inexpensive, Delicious food more

Best in LA 8/28/2003

Paru's is the best kept vegetarian secret in LA! They offer unique dishes like Masala Dosa...a kind of potoa and pea burrito with a scipy dipping sauce. Their Chana Masala is fantastic as are the samosa's Cannon, the owner remembers everyone's name and is very welcoming. The ambience is comfortable with an authentic Indian charm. Very surprising in this somewhat seedy neighborhood. Paru's is by far the best vegetarian restaurant in LA! Pros: great food, fair prices, friendly staff more

Paru's Transcends 8/27/2003

Normally I go to restaurants for the food. Paru's offers so much more than good food. I sometimes find myself craving the serenity that I feel when I'm there. It has to do with the warm greeting we get from the waiter and his calm, peaceful personality, the incense burning, the delicious spices...ah. I love it there. The Ghee Roast was very good. I love the Samosas and Bondas. Everything I've tried has been fantastic. It's nice eating vegetarian, too. The place is a sanctuary. Pros: warm staff, delicious food, calming atmosphere Cons: I don't live there! more

Very Good Overall 8/2/2003

Good place to go for vegan Indian food. The service, food, and ambience is good. The place is rather small, though, and is not in a great area, perhaps why you have to ring a doorbell to get in during the day. My girlfriend is Indian, very picky, and she liked it, too, so it's gotta be decent. If you want to stay away from the meat, like we do, this is a top pick. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience Cons: No Parking, Small more

Authentic S. Indian Food 6/26/2003

The portraits give a spiritual feeling to the place. It may be a good cultural experience for some. Or you can ignore the pictures and enjoy your food. Pros: Tasty food, Inexpensive, Garden seating Cons: Street parking more

Best Indina in LA 4/16/2003

I discovered this hole-in-the-wall gem completely by accident, but what an amazing find. The food's great. The service is great. The prices are very reasonable. The only drawbacks I've noticed are that the dining area can get tight, and since it's vegetarian, one tends to miss out on some things that Indian cuisine can offer. Other than that, it's a great place. Pros: great food, great service, nice ambience Cons: almost no parking, cramped dining more

Head of the Class 1/20/2003

Paru's is quality indeed. The food, service, and atmosphere really cannot be beat. The only thing to keep in mind for new diners is that they serve southern Indian dishes here (so no staples of northern cuisine like malai kofta, bindi, tandoor etc...). But for vegetarian dining it is amongst the best in the city. more

Good food small portions 10/23/2002

Has a nice decor, good host, good food. The only problem I have with this place is that the size of portions is too small. Authentic south Indian it is, but not is quantity. Ambiance is pretty good. Pros: food taste, decor Cons: quantity, value for money more

Authentic Southern Indian 6/27/2002

A secret oasis cloaked behind iron gates on Sunset, you have to ring a doorbell to gain entry. Once inside, one is immediately taken by how surprising large the area is. This is not to say that it's huge, just that from the outside it doesn't look like more than a table or two on the patio, when in fact there's a whole indoor area with booths and tables as well. The food is another story. If your only experience with Indian food has been at semi-Americanized chains, then this will throw you way off course. There's no Tikka Masala anything, no Saag Paneer. Instead it's true SOUTHERN Indian cooking, which relies a lot less on rice than it does on this very interesting sort of dough. It's very different, but certainly worth experiencing at least once. Oh, and the food is all-vegetarian. Pros: authentic food, good portions Cons: no meat, parking can be tough more
