Solid, nothing fancy 4/6/2006

15-501 Diner in Chapel Hill is a solid little diner. My husband and I eat here occasionally. The food is always good, never bad, rarely great. The waitstaff is friendly. They have a few upscale items for a diner, and some of the prices are a little too high in my opinion. The decor is great - very classic diner feel. They are closed on Mondays, so remember that before you head out the door. I think it's better for breakfast than for dinner, but with so many great breakfast places close by, we don't go too often... more

Owens is pretty good--for a diner 8/16/2005

Owens 501 Diner on Fordham Boulevard is a pretty good little diner. There aren't that many diners down here, so it was nice to be reminded of my days living in New York, where I could go to a restaurant with my husband and one of us would get waffles while the other had a steak. I love the variety of diners, and Owens 501 Diner definitely has that. That said, my patty melt was a little dry. The more expensive entrees looked pretty good, and most of the other patrons (many of whom seemed to be regulars) looked to be enjoying their meals. I'd recommend this place to friends. more

This "diner" may not have a 10 page menu or be open all night, but the food is good quality-- definitely more than you would expect from the casual atmosphere. It is a great spot for brunch, as well as for dinner. The food is very fresh and there is a lot of variety. This place is family friendly as well. more

I got a buffalo chicken salad today with 5 measily pieces of McDonald's sized nuggets for $8. Then the waitress tried to add the price of a sweet tea to the bill when it clearly stated on the menu that the price included beverage. Then there were waiters and waitresses breaking things and joking around, overall very unprofessional. I hate to disagree with everyone else in chapel hill... but I guess I'm going to have to. The food is really greasy and the service was way too slow for those of us that have a lunch HOUR. I've been there three different times, and wasn't really impressed at all. on a plus side, the atmosphere and the prices were good... but that's about all i can say. more
