Editorial review from Citysearch 3/18/2014

My 2 year old child was here for less than one year. We chose this school mainly because of the location but I had to drag my child kicking and screaming through the parking lot into the class every morning. He would cry nonstop when I left. The teacher said it was because he was getting ""used to day care"" and that it's ""common."" 9 months later, he still wasn't ""used to day care"" so I pulled him out and put him in another school. He was like a different person overnight. Happy to go to daycare, happier when he's at home, a lot less clingy and doesn't hit his brother anymore. This speaks volumes. There are too many kids at Oak Lawn per class, the teachers aren't high quality, and the management stinks. Stay away. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/4/2013

This center USED to be awesome. However, a series of incidents and a change in management have had unfortunate effects. I would suggest any interested parents look up the state of Texas penalties against this school. It was on suspension during 2012-2013. During our time there in 2012-2013 there were teachers who attacked fellow teachers, children left on the playground, MANY good teachers left, 4 yr olds were shown the movie Iron Man 2, etc. The director, Corey, and the board are very unresponsive. A request was made to meet with the board by parents, and those parents were asked to leave the school. I would urge parents to look at the older classrooms that are nearly empty. There is a reason! Don't be fooled...do your homework. We were at this school for nearly 4 years and finally had enough of the drama. We and others who sent children to this school during 2008-2013 experienced a very, very negative change in 2012 and removed our children. We would not send a younger child to this center. The older reviews are justifiably good but reflect a different school and different management. An important disclaimer is that this is intended to warn parents. I have no score to settle. We persevered with the change in management and left when it was clear it was negative. more

Best Child Care for the money, and the child 8/29/2008

When my grandson was two years old, we looked for a private nanny but we were dissatisfied with all the applicants. In desperation, we inquired from various friends, and they suggested Oak Lawn. I have been delighted with the quality of the child care in this facility. There is an open door policy, parents are free to come and go, to view the child at any time of the day. No appointments needed. The school is run by the Head Prinicipal, her name is Dolores. She is a loving, large, lady who treats all the children as if they are her own grandchildren. She is accessible for any needed discussions, and I have found that my grandchild, (who is now five, and has left Oak Lawn, has a very broad knowledge (they teach them, as opposed to just ""child care"") . My grand-daughter is now presently attending, and has become a little angel, (she used to fling her food around, etc. etc.) I felt sorry for those teachers, having to deal with her, in the beginning. Hats off to the staff and to the Principal for an efficient and well run school, where discipline is instituted lovingly, and there is always positive re-inforcement with all the children. more

Oak Lawn United Methodist Church Child Developement Center - A great place 6/5/2008

Our daughter has attended Oak Lawn Child Development Center since she was 3 months old and loves it -which makes us love it. From the minute we drop her off and bring her into the building she can't wait to get to her classroom and hugs her teachers and seems overjoyed to get in there and immediately start playing. This school does not have all the bells and whistles as some of the new daycare centers out there. The building is old and not as updated but the quality of care is what is important to us and they appear to be fully equipped with all the necessities to make our daughter thrive. They have a very low turnover of teachers and most of the staff have been there for over 10 years. We believe she is in a nurturing environment and cared for by experienced, loving individuals who have the chlidrens best interest at all times. Their fees are comparable to any other daycare facility. Pros: Positive and nurturing environment, convenient to Downtown Dallas without paying Downtown fees. Cons: Old facility, could use a paint job more

Great Teachers 10/26/2007

I have a two and a half year old that has been with OLCDC for nearly a year. The experience has been wonderful. They have lots of extra activities for the children. For instance, they are having their annual halloween carnival next week. Most of the teachers have a long tenure with the school. They give lots of feedback, and seem to really enjoy what they do. It seems like they have a new story about my son everyday. The tuition is right on par with other child care facilities of the same caliber. My son loves going to OLCDC, and is always welcomed with open arms! I highly recommend it. Pros: Great Director/Teachers Cons: Old Facility more

Amazing School 4/9/2007

We have two children who attend Oak Lawn, and infant and a 4 year old. Both spectums of the day care have been excellent. Our infant is loved and held and has made a very easy transition. The infant room teachers take pictures of our daughter during the day so that we will have momentos. Our older daughter began at Oak Lawn at 10 months old and we have seen her fourish there. Parents are given a daily curriculum as well as a menu so you know what your children are eating during the day. Many of the activities are hands on learning so the truly absorb what they are doing. The school also offers drama, dance and chapel at no extra-cost. Another advange is the student populations itself. The atmosphere is very multi-cultural and diverse. In our class alone, half of the children have International parents. Highly recommended! more

This is an exceptional school! 3/29/2007

This school is not a day care center but rather a child development center. It is a wonderfully nuturing, educational environment. The teachers are loving and very dedicated to the children. Many of the teachers have been there well over 10 years. The classes offer a full developmental curriculum. Unlike many schools that move children up to the next class based on age, Oak Lawn advances the children based on their individual development. The preschool education that my daughter is receiving is exceptional. In fact, many of the students who graduate, test quite high and end up at private schools. My daughter has flourished at Oak Lawn and I will send all of my children there. more

Great Nurturing Enviornment 3/28/2007

I had two children at Oaklawn. Many of the teachers have been with school for years. That alone tells you how dedicated the teachers are to all the children that enter their program. Pros: Overall program, Teachers & Director more
