A Place For The Small Films 7/16/2009

The Northwest Film Forum thankfully brings the small movies to town and not just blockbuster hits that can get redundant. For Instance I have been looking forward to seeing this documentary about a San Franciscan Pastor wanting to make a film titled ""GRAVITY: THE SHADOW OF JOSEPH"", a biblical science fiction movie. The documentary is titled ""AUDIENCE OF ONE"". I read a review by Paul Constant from The Stranger this morning and am now even more excited. THE STRANGER BY: PAUL CONSTANT ""This is one of those rare cases of a documentary director finding exactly the right subject at exactly the right time: Jacobs’s first documentary is about an evangelical preacher named Richard Gazowsky who’s trying to direct a science-fiction retelling of the story of Joseph. Virtually everything about this documentary, from a quietly disgusted aside by Gazowsky’s mother to the enthusiasm of his churchgoers as they try to make a big-budget blockbuster with no actual moviemaking knowledge or experience, is a perfectly entertaining study in awkwardness. Gazowsky’s utter confidence that God has chosen him to be a mixture of George Lucas and John the Baptist is truly shocking, and the first time I saw Audience’s climactic scene, my jaw literally dropped in horror when I realized exactly how looney-tunes his faith had made him."" Thank You, Northwest Film Forum for bringing the obscure and unknown to our attention! -Sam Pros: Brings the small movies to town not just blockbuster hits more
