am part outraged and embarrassed for Napper Tandy's. I have heard of this place forever, supposedly one of the MUST Go places if ever in Raleigh's Glenwood Ave Restaurant Row. So yesterday while at an event in the area, my wife and I went to 'da Nappers. I expected an unforgettable experience, and I got one I did not expect.\r We made our way downstairs to the Pub. Nothing exceptional except the place was wall to wall tv's (not a bad thing) with loads of different sports events on.\r But then it was time to order. My wife got an Irish Whiskey on the rocks, and it came out timely... in nothing but a plastic 8 oz cup... and cost $7.50!\r Drinks aside, I decided to order the Fish -n- Chips, my wife went with the Shepards Pie and I was curious and got the Bangers and Mash to take home\r My fish was more burnt breading than fish, and forget about cocktail sauce.... you only get tartar as they don't even have cocktail sauce.\r The fries... what a joke! Stale, undercooked... definitely fresh out of the freezer. All this for like $12?!\r My wife's Shepards pie was more mashed potatoes than meat and the mashed potatoes tasted watery and no salt, pepper, butter, nothing!. I am certain the mashed potatoes were fresh because it had a chunk of undercooked potato in it. GROSS. This ran I think $13. You gotta be kiddin me!\r Then there was the bangers & mash. Mashed potatoes must have come from the same batch.... watery and not a stitch of seasoning to it.. The bangers, what an effing joke. Little more than cocktail weenies.\r Obviously this is a pub and they do not concentrate a lot on food. They seem to want to focus more on frozen food fastly made than actually good food reasonably priced.\r \r Napper Tandy's 'repuketation' will be forever in my mind. I should have tried The Hibernian across the way, their reputation is more solid. Go to Nappers for the booze, for the atmosphere, but dont go for the food! more

Great Irish Pub 11/27/2010

I really enjoy going to Napper Tandy's. The bartenders (Kelly, Rich and others) are awesome, the food is wonderful, and I really like the Irish band that plays there from 7-9 most Friday nights. This band's songs and insights have encouraged me to cherish my Irish heritage. more

Best Irish Pub in Raleigh 11/20/2010

The first thing that you notice when entering Napper Tandy's is the atmosphere. I was surprised to find that the back bar had been transported from Langton's in Kilkenny which just happened to be the first place I stayed in Ireland! I knew I had found the right Pub. On Friday night they have authentic Irish music from 7-9PM. Everyone there is having so much fun you just have to join in. more

Go Irish 2/15/2010

Ok so your downtown Raleigh and it is lunchtime, you have less than 10 bucks but real hungry, you hate fast food and want to sit down. Head over to Napper's awesome lunch specials, I'm not sure what day the Pizza soup was in the lineup as soup of the day but I hit the jackpot. That with a huge wrap and a drink for under ten bucks....SCORE. On the other side of that coin I visited one evening that they had All you can eat wings. This is for you if and only if you like COLD under flavored wings. If the wings are avoided go for it though. Plus the old school Irish atmosphere is Awesome. Pros: Great price Cons: Dump the all you can eat wings. more

Great Irish Pub 12/8/2009

I took my Dad to this pub when he visited me from Northern VA. I couldn't take him to the run down college bars on hillsbor. st. The service was good and I think this bar looks awesome inside and out. It definitely left a good impression of Raleigh with my Dad. Pros: Good Beer Selection, Nice Environment more

Horrible Service & Staff 11/9/2009

Napper Tandy's is a great bar for the weekends. However, their day staff are horrible. One server in particular ignored tables in her section because she didn't feel like helping them. One group walked out because no one would help them. The bartender wouldn't even take drink orders. They were rude and didn't seem to care about their customers Pros: It's a great bar at night Cons: The day staff more

Love this place! 9/30/2009

My friends and I love to go to karaoke at Napper Tandy's on Wednesday. They have awesome drink specials and the staff there is quick and polite. Collin is a great DJ who is easy to talk to and makes it a point to get to know the regulars. Definitely try them out! Pros: Great drinks and karaoke. more

Sorely Surprised 2/26/2009

I've been in some Pub-in-a-box Irish Theme pubs, but this one takes the scone.\r I was embarrassed to be Irish.\r Also tell your aging house band, Eire Lingus, that the word 'Eire'\r without the fada accent does not mean 'Ireland'! It literally means 'Burden' in the Irish tongue !!!!\r Pros: Food is fair bar food.\r It's nearby to The Hibernian on Glenwood if you want the feel of a real Irish pub.\r Cons: More of a sports bar.\r I expected to hear the music on the video on their web page - instead I got old crooning paddy-wannabees playing plastic guitars. Disappointing.\r more

Thank you for such an awesome night 8/14/2008

My fiancee (now husband) and I were looking all around for a restaurant where we could hang out and have some food and drinks with our out of town wedding guests. Many other places were not willing to accomidate 25 to 30 people and reserve an area of the restaurant without charging a very high fee. Napper Tandy's didn't think twice about giving us the patio so that we could spend the evening with our guests. The service was wonderful!!! The food was also great. We also loved the relaxed atomosphere!! Thank you so much for helping to make that night a special one for us!!! Pros: Great Food, Service, and Atmosphere more

Best Irish Pub in the Triangle 5/15/2008

I celebrated my 30th birthday party at Napper Tandy's. They had plenty of room to seat the large party that I brought with me. The food was amazing! Great selection of traditional Irish food from cornbeef and cabbage to shepards pie that my family loved. We had a wonderful time! The service was great in catering to the needs of my grandmother and her lack of mobility. They had huge beer selection! I think there had to be at least 15 different beers on draft plus several different choices for bottles. I would suggest for anyone to go to Napper Tandy's especially for celebrations! Pros: Lots of room and great food Cons: Not enough birthdays in the year more

Great Bar 2/23/2008

I want to first say that I love Napper Tandy's. The bartenders make the best drink and service is amazing. My only warning is there is often a cover for the live bands they have, it is usually about 5 dollars. It is also very much a guy bar, which can be good. It is not a good place if you are looking to dance and watch out for the extremely trashed guys you will find if you show up around 1. Pros: Great drinks and service, nice atmosphere. Cons: Cover is $5. more

Best entertainment and drink specials out there!!! 9/11/2007

I absolutely LOVE Nappers! My friends and I meet up there quite often. It is close to everyone and we always have the best time. They have the most friendly and personable staff. Tuesdays are the best with Trivia Night. Wednesdays they have awesome Karaoke. Fridays and Saturdays they have the best live bands in town. We just went there for the first time this week for Sunday Brunch and I must say it was fantastic. I have never had a bad experience. The crowd is welcoming and very relaxed. You can't beat the beer and wings deals on Wednesdays. All you can eat wings for $6 and pitchers of Miller Light or Yuengling for $6. Great place to just hang out with friends and catch up. Pros: Great food, great drink specials, super friendly staff Cons: Parking can be a hassle if you get there late more

Great karaoke on Wednesday 8/21/2007

I must say, I am an avid karoke enthusiast. I have been to many karaoke bars and this one takes the cake. The guy they have hosting is very funny and into his job. A lot of karoke hosts try to sing the entire time or just don't seem to be having fun. Combine him with $6 pitchers of Yuengling and Miller Lite and you've got a great night out. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Pros: great hang out place. Cons: can get crowded for late nights. more

Real Irish pub 1/15/2007

If you haven't visited Napper Tandy's yet, what are you waiting for. With a great selection of keg beers, good Irish food ( bangers and mash like Mom used to make ) and a fun crowd it makes for an enjoyable experience, go during the day, or even better, in the evening, and you'll feel right at home. The rooms are all very well furnished, you'd swear the building was at least 200 years old. If you get a chance, make sure you visit ""the library"" Pros: Great atmosphere, beer and food more

Best Irish Pub in Town 8/4/2006

My wife and 6yr old son went to Napper Tandys for dinner the other night and had a great time. The Irish food was awesome and our waitress was amazing. They had rugby, soccer and baseball on, and had a ton of tvs spread around the bar. After dinner we stuck around and watched the band for a while. Napper Tandys is a great place for families looking to have a bit of fun. Cheap beer and well priced food with live entertainment, we will definately be going back! Pros: Amazing Food, Great Atmosphere more

Best and Cheapest Pint of Guiness in NC 8/4/2006

Napper Tandys has the best Guiness in North Carolina, and best of all it's 3.75 pints all day everyday how can you beat that? Its cheaper than drinking in Ireland. I went on a Saturday night and had a great time. The band was excellent and the crowd was incredible. We went to several other bars and this is the place to be. The food was good and the service was great I give it a 10. Pros: Best Bands in Raliegh, Great drink specials Cons: I wish I lived in Raliegh year round more

what a irish pub 8/4/2006

this is the best irish pub i was ever in!!\r the 4 bars are from ireland i cant belive that ,they were shipped over from ireland and put in this bulding .you got to see this .\r the guinness is great the food very tasty ,first time there, this is my new local ,\r great bands on the weekends huge outdoor patio .i love it thanks Napper Tandys for a great place to hang out\r Pros: its everything you want in an irish pub Cons: I CANT GO OUT EVERY NIGHT more

A Great place for live music, catering to the 20-40 age demographic 7/27/2006

Napper Tandy's is a nightlife staple of the Powerhouse District of N West and Jones Streets. An Irish pub and music venue that draws quite a crowd. The food I have not tasted as of yet and I will update this after I order a meal. DJ or Live music on Fridays and Live music on Saturdays with a $5 cover charge (both nights). The service is average, but the beer is cold and the bands are good. Pros: Shares a fantastic corner with 2 other nightlife venues, a fun location, great crowd. Cons: Parking is a challenge at times and the $5 cover charge is too much for what is offered. more
