This place is great! Went there with a bunch of friends and they all loved it. The drinks were strong and reasonably priced. It gets crowded so get there early if you want a go...

Not Good 5/4/2011

It's the old Bank of New England. Was mush better when it was the Exchange. Rude and surly staff. Bartenders and wait staff get the orders wrong. I thought it was over-priced for the quality of the food and drink. Avoid this place at all costs. Not good at all. There are much better Sports Bars and Irish Pubs across the street, around the corner, in Quincy Marketplace, further up State Street, or down Broad Street. more

Don't Go - Unless You are Ok with Sexual Harassment! 3/18/2011

Actually giving McFadden's ""No Stars"". One of the bartenders sexually assaulted one of my best friends there. The bar manager and general manager wouldn't do anything about it and didn't care. Doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman - don't support McFadden's if you have any respect for people and are sick of bar staff being outright disrespectful and acting on power trips! more

Happy Hour Anybody?! 4/8/2010

So I love McFadden's but mostly because of their free happy hours. I've already gotten 2 free nights and my boyfriend won a free night as well! You see, all you have to do is sign up on their main site to receive their emails, and about a couple of weeks later they'll either call or send you an email telling you you've won a free night of drinks. I don't know if this promotion makes them money or not, but the place is always packed and there are literally about 5-10 winners per night it seems (me, my boyfriend, and 2 classmates all won on the same night one time). The deal is that your free happy hour (which is actually 2 hours) lasts from 6pm-8pm so you better get there on time, and you can order any mixed drink that's not top shelf but you can only get Coors Light, Bud Light, or Miller Lights for beer free. You are also encouraged to bring as many friends as you like, and they can all drink the same mentioned drinks but all at $3 each (not free, but still way better than paying the usual $7-$12 mixed drink). Sliders are also really popular at $1 each for everyone in the party (including the winners, no food for free). So, would I come here on a regular night without winning their happy hour/having one of my friends win so I don't have to pay full price? Probably not, only because the place is too crowded and I don't frequent the other bars in that area. However if you want to check it out, the downstairs area is my favorite. It's much quieter and the lights are always dimmed with weird but cool/""artsy"" vintage steel lockers and like, velvet cushioned seating for decoration. Yeah, just check it out for yourself. Oh but the downstairs area has weird times, I think they open it around 8pm but then close it up early at 10 or 11pm. The main floor is open until 1am I believe. Pros: they give about 10 free happy hours a day Cons: the place gets packed more

ewwww 6/5/2009

This place is soooo dirty and sooo disgusting. It can't even compare to the rest of the bars in Fanuiel Hall. The waitstaff is always new because people always quit. The downstairs was flooded and the same day they had a party there. So unsanitary. I am sure they could never pass any health inspections. Pros: location Cons: everything else more

boooo 3/31/2008

They gave my bill to someone else to sign, so when I retrieved my card they said it had no charges on it, but the next day I had a hefty charge on my card that someone else had signed for. They gave this other person their credit card back and gave them my bill to sign. Not that guys fault though, it's McSadden's screw up. more

Comfy port in a storm! 2/26/2008

Just stopped in for a drink in the middle of a snowstorm, great comfortable atmosphere, attentive service at the bar. Pros: Warm casual atmosphere, great service more

Bouncers play favorites to their own friends.... 1/3/2008

Here I am born and raised on the East Coast, however live in SF. I went there a few weeks back to meet up with some friends. One of my friends happens to be a good looking female. I arrived with one other friend and we order around for the girls and ourselves. It turns out that one of my friends was getting played on by a fellow she just did not care to be bothered with. I said some none threatening things just get him off my friend's back. The selfish kid decided to say, fine then I will have you kicked out. Moments later without any notice or warning from the Bouncers. Boston Police Department, the kid I had exchanged a few words with, and a bouncer escorted me out with no explanation. They wouldn't even let me sign off on my tab. Pros: location Cons: staff, bouncers, djs, everything except the area outside the bar, overcrowded more

don't leave your drink unattended 6/21/2007

someone preying on MEN at this bar. I have reliable knowledge of a hetero man being drugged etc.at this bar. It's a crazy world. Stay safe Cons: watch your drink! more

I would say ""just okay"" 12/12/2006

I had never heard of this bar until this past weekend when I met some of my friends in town after work for drinks. My first thought when I entered was that the bar looked just like a frat house. There was not a ton of room to stand so people were constantly bumping into me and my friends. The beers were about $4, which is lower than average so that was a plus. Also, there are a couple of people who mention this place as a good pick up joint - I don't know about the ladies that were there, but the men were only so-so. I was hoping for their sake they were independently wealthy or had great careers. Pros: cheap beer, no line Cons: too crowded, small bathroom more

Advertised Halloween Costume Contest Didn't Happen 10/31/2006

I was at the McFadden's Halloween Party last night (Tuesday 31st) hoping to win the advertised $1000 costume contest prize. There were some good costumes there which people had spent a lot of time making, it was very busy and I had a lot of fun. I was Optimus Prime. more

Crowded, Trendy, Long Lines, Cover Charge, 9/25/2006

I'm not to fond of Downtown anyways. McFadden's is too popular. Takes forever to get a drink upstairs. Downstairs is hot and smells like dudes. Not a cheap night on the town. Pros: Lots of people Cons: Crowded, Trendy, Long Lines more

What a crappy bar 8/5/2006

Place wasn't crowded when i arrived around 9 and it took 25 min to get a drink and i was sitting at the bar. Halfway into the night, the men's bathroom upstairs was flooded and no one fixed it. Plus the one toilet was broken and covered with a trash bag. Way to run an awful place management. The crowd was the only place that partially saved the night. Pros: crowd Cons: bathroom, service, price more

What a place!!!!!!!!! 6/15/2006

This place is great! Went there with a bunch of friends and they all loved it. The drinks were strong and reasonably priced. It gets crowded so get there early if you want a good spot. And the woman, oh the woman-very good talent. Definetaly recommend this place. Pros: TALENT Cons: crowded more

The worst place 5/11/2006

I went to McFaddens with a group of my girlfriends and we had an aweful experience. We waited about 45 minutes in the rain to get in...and when we got in the place was not even at capacity. They held the line outside to make the place look like it was a popular place to be. Inside the drinks were expensive and the service was horrible. The DJ was the worst of all. He didn't like us because we were from a town that he thought was snobby...over his microphone he proceded to talk bad about us in front of the entire bar. When we approched him about the situation he took a drink and threw it on my friends head. Extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. I will NEVER return the that bar and I hope that you don't either! Cons: DJ, Service, Long Line more

Don't waste your time. 2/15/2006

On my first trip to Boston, I met with friends at McFaddens. Not only were the drinks overpriced and the wait staff completely inattentive, the DJ was awful. Along with the terrible music he played, he called out two guys that we were with just because they happened to be fans of an opposing hockey team. He got the whole bar to crowd our table and flip them off. We had to leave after that; it was ridiculous. I will never go back and frankly, after an awesome day of sight seeing and shopping in a great town, he left me with a very negative view of what some people in Boston are like. Cons: staff, pricing, attitude more

AWFUL 2/6/2006

This place is awful! The service is slow, the drinks are over priced, and the dj's suck. Don't go here unless you want to pay to get verbally abused. I recently went here and the DJ was a complete jerk. He told everyone that they could walk by our table and flip us off because he basically didn't like the same hockey team. Childish, I think so. So if you walk by and see a line for the door, just keep walking it will save a lot of anguish and money. more

Great Place - I love it! 9/14/2005

I have never seen so many good looking people in one place ever! They play great music, you can be upstairs and a part of the huge party or go downstairs and relax in the Blue Room and talk and drink with friends. The bartenders are awesome, and contrary to other reviews the management has always been really nice and accomodating. I definitely recommend it. Pros: Great Happy Hour, Lots of Eye Candy, Great Staff more

Better than the last place... 8/9/2005

This location has gone through so many changes...Finally a better crowd, better music but still poor management. I have to say, this is definitely a good place for a single gal to go. There are alot of young professionals and eye-candies. Bartenders are very energetic and friendly. Plenty of room to dance downstairs....but no AC! more

Great Place - enjoyed it 7/7/2005

Wonderful new pub in boston. Lines are long but worth the wait. THe clientele is nice, bouncers are polite...and the bartenders? Well, can't get prettier then one of them...and she can pour a MEAN drink..... more

User review by sc14 4/9/2005

Our experience (and you can be rest assured it will be our ONLY experience @ McFaddens) was horrendous. Service was AWFUL and the manager with the attitude/power trip needs to go if McFaddens wants to be more than just the 'new' spot to try out. There are a wealth of other bars that we'd rather have fun at. more
