Amazing food. Highly recommended. We went for our anniversary and were treated with the upmost kindness and generosity. We felt like special customers, and our food was exquisite!...

Worst

It's Little Italy for those whose notions of Little Italy come from Godfather movies. However, the food is good, if not terribly authentic. The ambience is, well, Grand Centra...

Phenomenal!!! 11/16/2008

Good food AND service! 9/15/2008

My husband and I went here for the second time last night and were once again very happy with the entire experience. We were seated promptly (there is sometimes a wait on Fri and Sat) by a very courteous hostess and our waitress Melanie came right over. Melanie was not only attentive, she was just such a pleasure, we really enjoyed that she was our waitress (we had a similar experience before). She really personalized the experience for us. Pros: Great food and svc, nice music, grated cheese on the table Cons: mosr expensive than some surrounding restaurants more

Big eaters rejoice! 9/6/2008

We've eaten at Maggiano's several times and have always loved the food. The portions are big, and when you eat family style, the food just won't stop coming. Having the minimum group of 4 people is perfect for family style because everyone gets to choose a couple of favorites without a lot of negotiation. I can't believe they let you take leftovers when you order family style. We usually get at least two more meals out of that! When just my husband and I go, we usually split a salad, meal, and dessert and get plenty to eat for not a bad price. Of my approximately 20 trips there, I have only had poor service once. I was with girlfriends on a Sunday afternoon, and the server did not seem to want to be there. It wasn't nearly as busy as it can be, but he was slow and resented being asked for anything. The only thing I don't like is that the tables downstairs are way too close together. A lot of big groups eat there, and it is easy to get trapped (not easily able to cut a path to the restroom) or just claustrophobic with your chair practically touching someone else's. Pros: Ample portions, family style option Cons: crowded arrangement, located in Durham while I live in Raleigh more

Good Italian food! 3/16/2008

I made reservations for v-day for 9:30pm and when we got to Maggiano's, it was was packed. They said that we were gonna have to wait which sucked because whats the point of making a reservation when you don't even get to be seated for that time. We ended up waiting 20 mins past our reservation time with no were to sit and wait because it was really crowded. The food made up for it tho. By the time we sat down, we were starving and we wanted some good food. The fried cheese we ordered was so good and my main course was really good. The place was really nice too. Our waiter was nice as well. more

NOT ALL THAT IT WAS MADE UP TO BE 2/20/2008

I've heard nothing but great things about Maggios and soo when my in laws come in from FL I thought it would be a great idea to finally experience the greatness and enjoy a good dinner with them and my family (12 of us altogether).. we did it all from A-Z made the reservatation ahead of time.. got there early.. .got a great seat!! and when the time came to see the menu!! well I was not really impressed.. first off who charges $25.00 per person for family style and then an additional $2-5 dollars additional for veal or shirmp!!! with that,we opted for the al la carte menu and ordered.. well about 1 1/2 later we were still waiting for our meals and when it finally came ,it was not good at all!! The pasta was really hard.. garlic powder was used instead of fresh garlic..mushrooms tasted funny as if canned .. just not as soo upper class it was all made out to be!! Very disappointed.. :( we're from NY and know that there is no comparision when it come to food but Red Robin was another place we took our in-laws and they rated that the best place they ate during their visit!! WOW!! Pros: thumbs down!! more

Love the theme, crowded on most nights (obviously) 2/19/2008

I've been to maggiano's in durham several times and at several different times during the week. I love love love the food there, especially the veal and mushroom ravioli and surprisingly, there steaks were wonderful as well. Service is good, and highly attentive as long as you go to the restaurant during the non-busy times (i.e. weekday afternoons and early weekend days). I would recommend this restaurant to most everybody, if not for the decor; but for the food--it truely is wonderful. Pros: great food, great service Cons: crowded most nights, plan ahead or get a reservation more

avoid dinner hours and weekend lunch 12/29/2007

I used to frequent the Maggiano's location in Denver when I lived there. I was excited to see that Soutpoint also had a location. I have gone on numerous occasions, and the food is great. ""Rigatoni D"" is one of my favorites, and they have great salads. (I always get the 1/2 order when available and have some leftover for lunch the next day.) My husband and I have boycotted their dinner service, however. On several occasions, we have observed inattentive and unconcerned host staff. It is impossible to have a pleasant experience waiting for a table there. The bar/waiting area is often standing-room only, and it is difficult to sit down, get a drink, or even get out of the way of off-road strollers. I had been employed as a hostess during college, and I am constantly amazed as I watch the staff at the Southpoint Maggiano's greet patrons with a blank stare and stand around as tables become available. I understand that often times tables are being held for larger parties or to keep servers from becoming overwhelmed, but not that often. The host staff acts as if they are doing you a favor letting you eat there. If you go, go during less busy times where your contact with the front podium will be minimized. Pros: food, live music in bar Cons: crowded, long wait times more

ok food but smoky in dining area 11/11/2007

Went on Saturday with my family, first time at the restaurant. We were promptly seated in the non-smoking dinner area, the food was alright - my pasta was fairly overcooked but it still had a good taste to the sauce. Service was ok, altho the waitress refilled unsweet tea with sweet tea. What really ruined it for me though was the fact that the tobacco smoke was thick in the dining area. Ok, you're allowed to smoke by the bar but why make the effort to have a non-smoking section if you're going to have all the smoke float over to the dining area? Their baby changing station in the ladies room was also incredibly crammed - it's inside a bathroom stall, I guess the thought is you can close the door for privacy, but they didn't leave you nearly enough space to actually be able to. Pros: pretty nice decor, ok food Cons: smoky, crowded baby changing station, not great service more

It certainly isn't Olive Garden... 12/18/2006

It actually has good food. more

be prepared to be full!!! 11/2/2006

Great food, atmosphere and service. It doesn't get much better than this when it comes to Italian dining. Servings are quite large. I don't think I've ever had a chance to get to the desert menu. One day.... Pros: excellent food and ambience Cons: packed at dinner. make reservations more

Huge portions, Ok taste, below average service 8/13/2006

Atmosphere is good if you are going with full family or a group of friends - certainly not great for a couple looking for an intimate dinner experience. Service was average. We had reservations for 7.00pm - and were promptly seated - got our bread, water etc from the 'bus-boy'. Main waitress came almost 15-20minutes later with nary a apology. She seemed very hurried while taking our order and hardly came by later. Both appetizers and main entrees took a long time coming (not necessarily a bad thing unless you are very hungry). Portions were huge - taste was okay - not the best Italian food I've had. Pros: Huge potions Cons: Crowded, average service more

So-so food, poor customer service 7/9/2006

My husband and I took our four kids for dinner. We had to ask for 2 high chairs, as if the guy seating us didn't see us carrying two babies. We were not given any kids menus. When the waiter FINALLY came, we still had to ask for kid menus, and were told they were out of crayons. Several things we ordered they were out of, including lemonade and salmon. The wait for our food was very long, and the food was just okay. Not worth putting up with the poor/rude service, that's for sure! Pros: can practice your spanish speaking skills with the water girl Cons: restaurant was very cold, service was slow more

Great food! 5/19/2006

We had our wedding reception at Maggianos and we go back every year for our anniversary. It is an excellent place to have a reception! Everyone was pleased with the food and atmosphere. The wait staff was great. Generous portions of food and very tasty. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere more

Excellent food! 4/24/2006

This restaurant is worth going to for the chicken mushroom pasta dish alone!!! It is so delicious. I would recommend this place for groups, rather than for a romantic meal. Its got a lively and fun atmosphere and you can't beat the food. Pros: Great Food, Lots of Parking, Pick up more

Another Great Experience 4/9/2006

I go to Maggiano's regularly and have yet to be disappointed. My company ate there on Friday with a group totalling 14 people. With a group that large you generally expect to have a least one problem but not here. We dined ""family style"" for lunch and one of my co-workers has an allergy and the chef came out, helped her with her order and made her a special meal. That doesn't happen on a bust Friday at lunch but it did here. Food and service that were outstanding. Pros: Great Food, Great service more

Really enjoyed this restaurant! 2/20/2006

The food was great, the service was great.....aboslutely no complaints here. This could easily become one of our favorite restaurants! Tip....call ahead or make reservations or else you could find yourself waiting for a pretty long time in the crowded bar area. Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Service Cons: Crowded in Bar, Sometimes Noisy more

Nice ambience, Good food, Poor service 12/21/2005

The service was hurried and impersonal as usual. Just to give you an idea of the level of the service that we received, when I asked the waitress about a particular appetizer, she said ""Oh, no one ever orders that."" I said, ""Okay, but can you tell me what it is in it and how large of a portion it is?"" She responded, ""No one orders that, you should get something else."" Can you believe that? That is not only poor service, but just plain idiocy. We just threw up our hands and said, ""Forget it."" Why would a server whose tip depends not only on what is ordered, but also the quality of the service do something like that? Why would Maggiano's hire someone like that? I don't know. And I don't care. Maggiano's has made it clear that they don't want my money. I won't be visiting again. Pros: Good food, Ambience Cons: Service, Prices more

Disappointed too many times in a row! 8/29/2005

My family & friends have dined at this restaurant on 4 occasions, the past 2 being most disappointing, actually insulting - Our service was very abrupt, even rude - The staff was unfriendly, most unwelcoming - Our large party tried to make it more festive by attempting to include the waiter in minute of conversation - He told us ""I'm too busy to talk"" which we accepted since it appeared that he was infact chasing around quite abit - After a confirmed 25 minute wait for our check after completing our meals, I finally had to ask him for it - He sighed, got my credit card, returned to the table and told me to ""just throw it on the table after I had signed it""...""(he) didn't have time to deal with it""...his exact words - I literally threw it on the table as he had instructed and left - Pros: food is generally goo, nice variety of dishe, decent wine list Cons: unpleasant service, very noisy atmosphere, too crowded more

Pricy, crowded, great food 8/17/2005

Don't go here if you want an intimate place to dine. The family style is the best! I frankly am not fond of their lazagne, but every single other dish I've tried have been outsanding. more

Excellent Restaurant-Excellent Service! 7/21/2005

My fiancee' and I went to Maggiano's the other night for our one year anniversary, while we were there, my fiancee' is allergic to dairy and wanted to order a dish. We advised the server about his condition. Within minutes, a chef came out (this was at 7:30 at night!) and explained to us the details of the dish and that it would be prepared with care. What service! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and the excellent food and service at Maggiano's! Granted it is crowded, but what restaurant isn't on a Saturday or Friday night? It was busy, but our server took good care of us. Highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to sit and enjoy, but don't mind the crowdy nights (a tip~go to this place during midday or early evening for a relaxed dinner before 7 pm) Pros: excellent service, excellent food, caring employees Cons: crowded, but expected more
