We absolutely love this place. After two trips, we still haven't seen the whole place. Its more like a science center and zoo rolled into one. Plenty of hands on stuff for the kids (and adults) to touch and explore. Make sure you bring your walking shoes. There's a lot to discover. If you're ever visiting Durham, you cannot leave without coming here. You'll be glad you did!

The music may be folksy at times, and the church decoration is understated, but the congregation and the clergy have a deep love of God, the religion, and a desire to make the religion a way of looking at the world rather than a brief weekly ritual. Those seeking a religious experience surrounded by a congregation in love with God will not be disappointed.

Had I stayed in the area, this is the church I would have settled on. The congregation is large and full of families, there's an affiliated school, and Fr. David is a good priest. He was very helpful to my now-wife and I when we were trying to sort out paperwork to get married. The church is beautiful, and if you're a Duke fan, you might get a glimpse of the Krzyzewskis if you go.

Hollow Rock has one of the most active memberships and effective managements of any of the tennis clubs around the triangle. The membership in the last couple years has really grown, and the club has grown with it. There are two swimming pools--a lap pool and a large general usage pool (with slides, boards, basketball hoop, etc) that are great for the summer, and a large number of tennis courts. There is a great online court reservation web site that makes scheduling matches a breeze. Highly recommended for both tennis players, and families!

The library has a great selection of new and old books; however, there cd and dvd selection is lacking. I wouldn't cancel your netflix or blockbuster membership just yet. I do like how easy it is to renew books over the telephone and online. You can access their records from your home computer and put books on hold. They will call you once the book becomes available.

Looking for a dance class? Thought about learning drawing, photography, or how to play the violin? It would be hard to flip through a class catalog and not find something to be interested in. Classes usually run in 8-12 week cycles with a few weeks’ break in between. The Arts Council also offers a Making a Living in the Arts program that is a series of classes intended to help you do just that.

This library has a decent selection of books and magazines. They also try to keep the bestsellers on hand, but a lot of time you need to get them though a loan from another library. Not a big deal, I never had to wait for more than a week to get the books I wanted.
As a long-time user of public libraries, the Durham Public library has done one thing better than all the others. I never had a problem of having marked a returned item as not returned. Maybe it is just me, but it is aggravating to get late notices when you returned the item. So it is nice to know that the people here do a good job of checking in the returned items.
While slection for videos and books is better at the main library, this branch does a good job of knowing their people and making you feel welcome.

This is a black catholic church, but they welcome all people (about 15% seem to be non-black). The church is very small but it's nice in its traditional-ness. I'm not a huge fan of gospel music, but I found this music decent. They're really into the inclusive language at this church, which is a little annoying. Since it's so small, the church fills up, so I'd recommend getting there a little early.

We recently adopted a cat from APS of Durham who happened to be very sick. When we picked him up they told us that he had an upper respiratory infection and should continue being on antibiotics. We were fine with that. However when we got him home we noticed many other health issues. He wasn't eating or drinking and was also throwing up and having diarreha. The vet said he was a very sick cat, and didn't seem optimistic about him getting better. We could have immediately returned him to the shelter, but couldn't knowing he would probably be put to sleep soon after arriving there. We are quite disappointed that APS of Durham did not inform him of his condition before taking him home. So if you are planning on adopting from APS of Durham make sure you ask lots and lots of questions before-hand.

More
I was at your facility today to get my NC drivers license. I have lived in Illinois for over 10 yrs and had an IL license. I presented it to the front desk and was advised to wait. I was also given a token number. After 1 hour and 15 minutes I was called to a desk to do the eye testing and paperwork. The lady there appeared to be very rude , abrupt and impatient with any questions I had. She kept repeating " Please go to the computer and get the test done" . I did as I was told and passed the test. After this I went back to her . This time she looked at my Illinois license and said that it had expired! !
In Illinois , an old license is revalidated with a tamperproof sticker at the bottom of it. She did not try to read it but told me it had expired. When I pointed out what the sticker said , she said she had NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. Even though she was only asking me questions, she acted very suspicious. So , I told her to call the IL drivers license place but she would not. Even though she had not said anything to the effect, she made me feel like I have done something wrong.
After returning home I called Illinois dept of drivers license and discussed this with them. They mentioned that adequate communication had already been done to all state license departments and that they all have books to inform them how each state license looks like.
I think it is important that your staff know what other state licenses look like It is surprising to me that she is working in this field and did not know this. Besides , she was not friendly at all and appeared rude to me.The first three letters of her name was BRI -- I could not see the remainder of her name tag.
Lastly , she informed me that you could not take outstation checks even if it is from a state within US. I thnk that puts a lot of pressure on people who just moved and have not had a chance to start a local bank account yet.
Please address the above issues if possible.
